Through this week's learning module, I learned how to peer review others' works. It is helpful for me to build a systematic way when I am doing peer review. Although the article I am reviewing has just been added a reliable source not a full content. I didn't get a chance to comment a lot on peer review part. Week 5/ Add a Citation/Dragonroll

I can't reply to you under week 5, so paste everything in a new section here. 1. The article I assigned to myself is "Women in engineering". I added the citation to support the statement about the stereotypical factor that causes the under-representation of the female workforce in the science field. 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Women_in_engineering&type=revision&diff=919456458&oldid=916489319 3. What I learned from copyediting is to pay attention to the article that I am reading from multiple perspectives. For example, I will focus more on grammar, logic, and credibility when I try to find a topic to learn about through Wikipedia. It is also important to pick a reliable source to cite in the article. However, it cannot be irrelevant, repetitive, or unnecessary to the topic. 4. What I learn in the whole process is how to pick and start editing an article wisely as a starter.     • The Wikidata Wor(l)dmap is showing translations of the same concept on a world map. To use it, type a word (for example "water") in the search field, then observe the map. You can zoom in the map. The data comes from Wikidata item labels and the coordinate location property of the language.
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
    • Wikidata won an Open Publishing Award (description).
    • Panandâ, a mobile app powered by Wikidata (and Wikimedia Commons), was selected as one of the five finalists in the App for Social Good category in the Android Masters 2019 competition organized by Google Developer Group Philippines. The final event will be held on November 16.
    • Issue with Wikidata Query Service: aggregate variables can no longer reuse the names of other variables (T235540).

1. What I learned from reviewing another person's work is to pay attention to the advantages and disadvantages that the article has and be aware of them myself. I also learned to read and revise an article with caution. 2. The person that I chose to review is [[1]]. The article is [change]. 3. The article I added a citation to is Women in engineering. This week, I learned how to peer review other people’s work. I think it is helpful for us to write a Wikipedia article by myself. For example, our resources must be reliable and should not use resources from blogs, company websites, using unreliable resources will reduce the credibility of our work.etc. Peer review link is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dragonroll/Women_in_engineering/Tt1887_Peer_Review The article I choose for this week's citation is Barcode reader. In this article, the author has made an explanation about cell phone cameras, but he did not provide any evidence for his explanation. I found one article from the database talk about mobile phone readers which can prove his claims. The citation number is [2]. However, we cannot just claim it is wrong because it became history. It can help people understand what people’s life, their technology and society at that time which is also very useful. In the whole process, I keep learning how to add a citation on the articles, which are not complete. Adding citation is quite useful, because we can give more evidence to support the claim of the authors. Also, starting a new article is a good idea, as long as there is no such familiar article in the wikipedia. However, I prefer to edit the articles that need much improvement, so that I can add good sources to those weak articles. I have learned how to do a peer review on my classmate's article. It is necessary to review or be reviewed by others because from different perspectives, I will know what kind of aspects that I have to improve. So do other classmates. I have reviewed tt1887's article about barcode, and i found out he has a really good article to discuss, since barcode is actually an advanced technology for the business. It contains a lot of product information and it's convenient for the business owner to track their products. I gave an advice that he probably needs to add a section about application of barcode in different industry, so that he can convince that the barcode is really useful in the real world. The more review, the more I understand about his contribution to his article. He did a good job, especially add some citation to his article. From my perspective, if he can add the working principle that how the barcode works, I think it will be better to clarify the concept of the barcode. This week, I choose the article talks about climate change. After the second time of peer-reviewing, I find that I am getting more comfortable to review other’s work and I can learn not just from what others did correct but also, they did incorrectly. New Page Review newsletter November 2019

Hello FULBERT,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 818 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

  • Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
  • Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.
