RE: Article Reassessment[edit]

Of course. Sorry for not review it before, I've been busy these days. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 03:54, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay, I'll be waiting for you to review it, and (hopefully) fix all the problems you'll list. Fanaction2031 (talk) 03:56, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Today in the afternoon (PT) and it may be finished tomorrow or on Thursday. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 18:51, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Transformers[edit]

I'll see what I can do to help (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is also in need - it'll never pass the GA nom with all those fansites as refs!), specially as they already listed things to fix in the GAR. igordebraga 11:00, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I thought of something for the Reception section, but I don't know if it's quite the case... were there reviews saying "at least it's not as bad as ROTF" (a recent work of mine has a paragraph showing such a thing) or in general they found it worse? igordebraga 02:17, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Trouted[edit]

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: being awesome.

The WikiProject Film Award
I, igordebraga , hereby award Fanaction2031 the WikiProject Film Award for his/her valued contributions to WikiProject Film. Great work on being able to keep the GA status of Transformers: Dark of the Moon (even though the GA reassessment had an abusive number of demands!)
Awarded 02:17, 20 August 2011 (UTC))
Thanks Igor! You've been awesome as well! Fanaction2031 (talk) 06:11, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Fanaction2031. Mind weighing in on the above discussion? Not only is it about a recent edit you made to the article, but mostly about how to word that part of the lead. This has been going on for some time at the article, and the entire lead has been extensively debated, as can be seen on the talk page. We only achieved WP:Consensus months ago. Flyer22 (talk) 15:47, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding and inconvenience. Fanaction2031 (talk) 21:25, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Flyer22 (talk) 21:48, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've made too many edits to the article to review it for featured article, but I would highly suggest waiting until all the kinks are worked out the article. There are still some users that don't think it deserves GA, and I recently learned on Chuck Versus the Cliffhanger just what happens when you try to go straight from GA to FA. Happy editing. --Boycool (talk) 11:45, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I will fix the current issues that are listed in the nomination, but I will do what you've suggested doing. Fanaction2031 (talk) 15:51, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just trying to save you some of the frustration I went through. ;) It looks like the nomination has been archived, so let me save you two more mistakes I made: 1) They get pissed off at the use of templates such as {{Done}} on these consensus-type pages (something about slowing it down); and 2) You have to wait two weeks before renominating or ask Karanacs for permission. If my experience is anything to go off of, he'll ask you to get approval from the opposers first. --Boycool (talk) 01:00, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks for the advice. I'm really wondering what's going on right now... Fanaction2031 (talk) 03:43, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
RE: Sure. I'm kinda busy this week in the real world, but I'll see if I can do some editing over the long weekend. --Boycool (talk) 11:46, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't go for the FA until at least the DVD of Dark of the Moon gets released (it's too recent/prone to changes...) - only once a movie got promoted so close to its release, and it's been 4 years! But I'll see what's possible to do. (also, can you try to replace the refs on ROTF that hail from TFW2005 and Seibertron?) igordebraga 13:23, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'll see what I can do. Fanaction2031 (talk) 18:45, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So now that it's Friday and I'm ready to get down, what specifically would you like me to do to the article? --Boycool (talk) 03:47, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe adding more to the Marketing section, and reworking some of the sentences. And maybe just looking over the article and fixing some minor articles, and try making some sentences not sound repetitive, such as, as mentioned on the FA review, "nouns ending with ing" (filming, going etc.). Basically, I want some prose reworked, and to make it sound REALLY good, in your point of view, maybe sort of like what Igor has done before. Thanks! Fanaction2031 (talk) 05:22, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I'd suggest to enable "WikEd" from your Gadgets section on your preferences. It would help you a LOT. I have proven this gadget amazingly helpful. And "Citation Expander" as it automatically formats citations for you for convenience, just to be helpful. Fanaction2031 (talk) 05:43, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
All right. I'll give the article a look through, but since you're editing it right now I'll just make some notes and edit later to avoid edit conflicts. --Boycool (talk) 22:25, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
First, it looks like you were left with some unanswered questions at the FA page. From where I'm standing, it looks like...
"{{Citation}} and {{Cite}} and the specific templates such as {{Cite news}} and {{Cite book}} generally are not mixed. Try converting those two into more specific citations."
He wants you to use templates such as {{Cite web}} and {{Cite news}} instead of the generic {{Citation}} and {{Cite}} templates.
"release date of July 1, 2011, to two days earlier, June 29, 2011, I thin the context is there. Two days earlier."
He wants you to leave the sentence as just "...release date of July 1, 2011, to June 29".
"Critical reception was mixed to negative, praising the visuals but criticizing the writing, acting, and length. It reads like it was "Critical reception" who praised the etc etc."
He wants it to say "Critical reception was mixed to negative, with several critics praising the..."

Hope this helps. I'll move on to editing now and maybe ask your opinion on some things. --Boycool (talk) 22:36, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll use Citation bot to deal with the references (unless it doesn't change citation formats from what I remember). And thanks for the advice. :) Fanaction2031 (talk) 22:39, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'm done editing. I'll do citations tomorrow. Fanaction2031 (talk) 22:45, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The plot was pretty well formatted except for a few minor problems. I removed the "condor-like" description of Laserbeak because it doesn't really add anything and the character is only mentioned once. I also added a little bit to make it clear which side some of the Transformers were on (i.e. "the Autobot Ironhide"). --Boycool (talk) 01:59, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Before I move on to "Filming", I'm just wondering: How can filming begin on April 7 and May 18? Also, how can filming take place in Indiana and Los Angeles at the same time? --Boycool (talk) 02:29, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know. I didn't write this article from scratch. Maybe check the sources? Or do you want me to Google some stuff on filming? Fanaction2031 (talk) 03:24, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wait, I remember... so lame of me. It was before "Pre filming" but I changed it to "Principal Photography" on accident. My mistake. Fanaction2031 (talk) 03:26, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok. Thanks for clarifying. --Boycool (talk) 15:29, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the "Marketing" section, it reads kind of like a laundry list. These sections are usually based on reception, but this one's more like, "This trailer was released, then this one, then this clip, then that one. By the way, it cost a ton of money." I think maybe you should look at The Dark Knight (film)#Marketing, Cowboys & Aliens (film)#Marketing, and Valkyrie (film)#Marketing. Those articles are all about the strategies the filmmakers used to create a high anticipation for the films, the reactions to those strategies, and the changes in strategies as a result. I would suggest building on the $270 million figure and maybe adding in some reactions. --Boycool (talk) 23:17, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would also suggest keeping the color of the quoteboxes consistent throughout the article. I personally prefer the blue ones because I think they stand out better against the text. I've done everything but "Critical reception" and "Box Office" now. I think I'll save that until tomorrow. --Boycool (talk) 23:26, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm curious what this edit changes, because you seem to have split a quotation in half. --Boycool (talk) 11:43, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did? Didn't know that. Looks fine with my monitor. You can change it if you want. Fanaction2031 (talk) 18:05, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is finished. --Boycool (talk) 18:01, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. Ask me if you need anything in your article. Fanaction2031 (talk) 18:09, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure I'll look through it. It's all sourced, right? --Boycool (talk) 02:14, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Working on the sources. Those are just placeholders. Fanaction2031 (talk) 02:28, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I cleaned some stuff up but there still needs to be a source after every quote. --Boycool (talk) 21:01, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Fanaction2031 (talk) 21:40, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just making a sentence simple[edit]

You are adding a description to the Plot, so why won't you let me simplify a sentence?

For example the sentence followed : "the resources of the Earth". I am making it "Earth's resources", so it becomes simpler to understand. So what is the need to undo it? Please tell me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Namanbapna (talkcontribs) 18:28, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that it is unnecessary and is it REALLY needed? The original plot is already fine, but if you want to keep it that way, it's fine. Fanaction2031 (talk) 18:44, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thanks for offering to help with the Chuck Versus the Cliffhanger article. The big thing keeping it from being a featured article is that none of the other editors watch Chuck, so they can't comprehend the article. I changed the plot to be simpler, which should have made it easier to comprehend. One editor said she comprehended it very easily, but the guys who opposed the FA nomination still don't think so. So one guy said to add some "context" paragraphs in the lead so people can get an idea of what happened in past episodes to understand better. So the problem is that the lead is way too huge for the article, and combined with the plot section it's basically a 1,000-word summary. How you can help me is by pointing out anything that's still confusing in the article, and removing anything that absolutely doesn't need to be in the lead or plot section to understand it. Also, someone said the reception section reads like a laundry list. Thanks. --Boycool (talk) 21:28, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really watch Chuck. But I'll try to Google up some stuff, and I'll see what I can do. Also, can you mind linking me to the review of the article? Should be somewhere in the archives. Thanks. Fanaction2031 (talk) 02:53, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it's probably better that you don't watch Chuck.

--Boycool (talk) 11:48, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can do later today. Fanaction2031 (talk) 18:25, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. --Boycool (talk) 03:17, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  1.  Done
  2. Would a link to de facto suffice?
Yeah. Fanaction2031 (talk) 02:31, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give the lead another look later. Thanks. --Boycool (talk) 02:17, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again. --Boycool (talk) 00:53, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A brownie for you![edit]

A brownie as thanks for your work on The Dark Knight Rises and your efforts to keep up maintenance including the referencing system. When the film comes out this article is going to be great quality straight away. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 21:48, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE: The Dark Knight Rises[edit]

LOL, sorry for the edit conflict. I'm getting so impatient about everything now. --Boycool (talk) 05:18, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Quote dumping[edit]

Hi Fanaction,

I've noticed that you've been making a lot of edits to The Dark Knight Rises lately, and while you are adding a lot of good content, I feel you might be going the wrong way about it. I see you want to improve the page to Featured Article status, and that's certainly a worthy ambition, but I feel that you should take a look at the selection criteria for a Featured Article before you go too much further. The first article in particular states that "It is well-written; its prose is engaging, even brilliant, and of a professional standard", and I don't think your edits meet that condition. I feel that what you're doing is simply dumping large numbers of quotes into the article with only vague working to connect them to the actual subject of the section. And while it makes for a good article, it doesn't make it a great article. Perhaps you could try paraphrasing or only including the really important details. For example, in this edit, I took a really long quote from Christopher Nolan and condensed it down to the key points.

Reading your user page, I see that your to-do list includes "[improving] The Dark Knight Rises when the film is released, adding information as much as possible, and promoting it to FA/GA status", but I think you may be going about this in the wrong way. The fact that information exists does not automatically make it notable enough for inclusion. It's a question of picking the most important content and writing it in a way that is engaging and interesting. By all means, keep adding things that you find if you think they are notable, but maybe you should consider a different approach to the way you include that information.

If I may, I suggest you read this. It might not be something that you are interested in, but I have been working on it all year, and I tried to make it interesting and engaging and concise - even to a total newcomer to the sport - and I have been told that it is the kind of style I need to keep writing in if I want the page to achieve FA status some day. Maybe it will help you improve The Dark Knight Rises even more. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 09:42, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, there are two things you should consider doing:
1) Ask yourself: does this edit add anything new to the article, or is it repeating what has already been said? I see you have added more content to the page, with one edit under the cast section, and one under costume design. The costumer design stuff - about the Batsuit - is new; it has not been covered in the article already. But the quote related to the casting of Selina Kyle is not; it has already been said. I have kept the edit about the Batsuit, but removed the stuff on Selina Kyle.
2) Think carefully about what you are adding. For some reason, I cannot access the .pdf file that contains the production notes, but I suspect you have simply copy-and-pasted some of the material directly from the source and put it into the article. Generally speaking, this is okay when you are directly quoting someone (because you are directly quoting them), but otherwise it is not. I have reason to believe the content you added on the Batsuit and its construction may have been taken word-for-word from the source document. Even though you have provided the appropriate reference to support it, it is still considered to be plagarism if you have just copy-pasted content over from the source to the article.
So please, think about what you are adding before you add it. Like I said, the fact that information exists does not mean it is automatically notable enough for inclusion in an article. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 01:15, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect blanking[edit]

Hi, if you have an issue with a redirect that doesn't qualify for speedy deletion, please take it to Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion rather than blank the page as you did with The Dark Knight 2. Thanks! -- KTC (talk) 11:28, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Dark Knight Rises[edit]

Hi, I notice you've recently contributed to The Dark Knight Rises plot section. A discussion is currently under way on its talk page regarding other edits since then between myself and another editor, and I'd like your opinion. I'd be very grateful if you could have a read of the discussion, and take a look at the recent edits to the article by both parties. Thanks. drewmunn (talk) 12:03, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're so bold you scared me![edit]

Wait, you don't know me yet, but this is meant to be a compliment! When you first removed the prologue sequence from the Dark Knight Rises article, I thought you were like vandalizing the page, but you were right. We didn't need to tell where that physicist came from to mention him in the story. We only needed just a phrase to say that he was a physicist. It was so bold, but so well calculated. Well done! Anthonydraco (talk) 12:48, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Force Awakens Edits[edit]

I reverted your edits to The Force Awakens article because you gave no reason for each edit. It is good practice to always give an edit summary for each edit especially for articles which are repeatedly edited or are the subject of controversy (or controversial edits). It makes the job of assessing whether to revert an edit, take the edit to the talk page or thank the editor for their edit a lot easier. Robynthehode (talk) 09:11, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Avengers Endgame logo.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- AlexTW 13:40, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October![edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:SotIS-SC2Dota.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.
