Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello Fast track/Archive 1, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. Page Blanking

On 02-Feb, you blanked Government of Punjab. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've reverted it to the previous version. If you believe this redirect should be deleted, please follow the redirect portion of the deletion procedures. If you believe different content should go there, please create a stub. Thanks! -- JLaTondre 19:38, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Salam

there is an archive link in the featured picture of pakistan portal. i would like you to add the same for the featured artical.thankyou

Wolverinetalk 21:24, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Salam

Why can it not be the featured artical and picture of the day, and I think that we do not have feature articals related to pakistan only; articals about Islam, Asia, and fields of technology can also featured. And i was thinking about starting a project related to universities in Pakistan.Thankyou

Wolverinetalk 21:24, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Salam

Ok, you convinced me but I still have problems. I think as the notice board for pakistan related topics is a part of the portal, therefore things you can do should be on the notice board and on the portal it can be replaced by This week in history and I have also noticed on other portals and on the main page that the arihives are on porject pages and not on portals more over they have formulated the pages for the whole year. more over think that the wikiporjects should me moved to the notice board and categories should be removed . A template should be added to the top of the page that links to the notice board.Thankyou

Thanks for uploading Image:Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 09:45, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Salam, I have made some changes to the Notice Board for Pakistan Related Topics.I think you should check them, I will be working on the board and I will reconfigure it; If you have any suggesstions them please tell me, and I think I will also be needing your help becuase I am not fimiliar with the wikipedian style of coding for generating tables, imaging and other things.Allah Hafiz

Templates Added

Salam, I have added three more templates to the Pakistani Wikipedians and I will add more as soon as possible.Allah Hafiz

Wolverinetalk 21:24, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Salam, you have changed the introduction to a template that is a good thing, but you have also added it to Talk:Pakistan and Talk:Historical regions of Pakistan which I think is not good, I will create a similar template for talk pages of Pakistani articals and also for the derivatives of the notice board, the reason being that the template was linking to the notice board while it was on the notice and I have also removed the braketed shortcut because they seemed irrelevent as the link was sitting right next to them, the shortcuts can be added to the page it self.Thankyou

Pakistan User page

Why are you reverting this template? If you want to contribute create a new one, and make {{User Pakistan1}}. This template has three colors, white, yellow which looks like orange, and green, similar to Indian flag. Its good that you are working on Pakistan related sites, but please try to respect other's opinions. --Realitea 02:54, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi, one more thing I hope you don't mind. If you are working on pakistan related templates try to avoid gold (yellow, orange) color in lines or backgrounds. Try to preserve the identity of Pakistan, rather than making it similar to India related sites. Thanks, and I hope you consider this. --Realitea 04:14, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks, and I appreciate --Realitea 07:09, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Shaheen Air.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Shaheen Air.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Sue Anne 08:05, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Images of Pakistani Airports

Assalam o Alaikum, Thanks for your message, I've been adding more and more images to wiki whenever I can. These days I don't have broadband at my place. I'll upload some of the images from ISB airport right now and will try to do the rest later on. Thanks for pointing me to the Pakistan Wikimedia commons, I'll add the stuff there as well.

I've added several images at different articles (Karachi airport, Peshawar airport, Queeta airport etc), and added galleries of Pakistan International Airlines, Karachi and Fokker F27 on wiki Commons. I'm confused about the way categories and sub-categories are defined and the images separate in commons and in "en.wikipedia.org". So far I've added images to these categories:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Karachi http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Pakistan_International_Airlines http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Balochistan

The Pakistan page on commons has these few images: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Pakistan whereas the "Category:Pakistan" page has these images: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Pakistan

And "Category:Pakistan-related images" on en.wikipedia.org has more images: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Pakistan-related_images

(I know it's better to add to commons than just to English pages, but how to organize the images? What standard to follow? Like http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Pakistan vs http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Pakistan)

About category

Thanks, I know how the categories work, but I wasn't sure how to use the tree, whether the airport photo goes under Cat:Pakistan as well as under Cat:Transport in Pakistan.... it should go under Cat:Transport in Pakistan to keep it uncluttered. The categories have been heavily misused, especially on commons. And about the images you upload, there is a "Fair Use" clause for images like logos, movie posters (for promotion) etc, you could use several images under fair use, especially if they're low-resolution. Read more when you upload. ("Fair use" images are not allowed on commons, however.) Waqas.usman 11:19, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

We should kee Air Blue destination page as most airline have seperate destinations page. The destinations change frequently and we will not have to change update the main page. Siddiqui 16:59, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

I think we should keep the page as Airblue will expand after taking delivery of new planes. It plans to expand to North America, Europe and other destinations.
Siddiqui 17:07, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
I created that article. You cannot just delete without any discussion. In Wikipedia, usually first you have to put a tag on the article for discussion on delete/rename/redirect of a page. You just cannot delete the page.

Thanks for uploading Image:Punjab_Tensils.jpeg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Categories

Please can you stop making unilateral changes to article categorisation. Any categories that you think should be renamed, mergeed or deleted must be first discussed at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion before any articles are moved. For example ((category:Hill Stations in Pakistan)) was recently moved to ((Category:Hill stations of Pakistan)) after discussion. I may have to revert other of your changes as I unpick your unhelpful actions. Thanks, Thryduulf 12:25, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Feature Pictures: Nominate them !!

Hi Waqas,

I see you have alot of images of scenery from Pakistan. I think you should nominate them on the follwing page to see what the response they get;

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Featured_picture_candidates

Once you have nominated it on the above link place it in the Pakistani notice board section too under the table of "Collaboration opportunities"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notice_board_for_Pakistan-related_topics

Good Luck and continue uploading your great pics. Fast track 08 May 2006

Thank you for the idea, I have been writing a lot on wikipedia in the recent weeks and my "To do" list is quite long, I wasn't sure how to nominate pics or whether anyone could nominate their own pics as well... thanks for the link.
PS: You should create your user page on wikimedia commons as well.
Also, thanks for the link about the Pakistan Notice board, I read your message yesterday but didn't have time to dig into it. You're right, we should organize to work more efficiently. Waqas.usman 11:21, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
I've nominated an image of mine for Featured pictures, please vote: [1] Waqas.usman 20:26, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Karachi District Category

Hi Spasage,

Just like to know what you mean by your edit "Move this category to Category:Karachi District" on the Category:Karachi category. Do you mean to put all the articles in this Category:Karachi into the Category:Karachi District. Or just place the Category:Karachi in Category:Karachi District. -- User:Fast track 23:42 24 May 206 (UTC)
A province is divided into Districts. I previously used only name of district as category to show that this category is for District, and everything which is in this district should be included in this category, like Karachi is city and it is in Karachi District. So the name of Category was Karachi not Karachi District (category was for district not for city). Similar is the case with Lahore, Lahore is name of city and name of district is also Lahore District. It was creating confusion. So I changed all the category names from say Abc to Abc District, to avoid confusion with city name and district name. I did same with Karachi category, from Karachi to Karachi District, so that there should be clear difference between name of city and name of district. This difference may not appear in big cities like Karachi and Lahore, but it is issue in small cities, where there are other important cities in district apart from the main city, on which name of District is based. When I say, move it to Karachi District, I mean that we don’t need category Karachi, instead to make subdivisions clear, move all the articles in Category Karachi to Category Karachi District. We'll delete category Karachi, after shifting is complete. I hope it make thing clear, but if still there is any question, tell me. I have done same with all other districts in Pakistan. You can browse through them to see it(Category:Districts_of_Pakistan). As there are many articles in Karachi and Lahore categories and there are many people contributing in them, I thought it is useful to announce it to everyone that change is being made. --Spasage 07:00, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Salam, Thanks for adding the pic to this article. But this isn't the entrance to the GCU, the pic was taken from the "Oval Ground" which is inside the GCU (when you enter GCU through the main gate, Oval is on your left and the main buildings are on the right side of the "road"). Anyone who's been to GCU would know about it. Please be careful with writing descriptions about things that you don't completely know (Waqas.usman here, in a hurry, not logged in)
