Hi Fetch, Thanks for the good work auditing Wikipedia content. "Darwish M.K.F. Al Gobaisi" is an article that was deleted and I am resubmitting it. Reading the different help articles/feedback to try and meet Wikipedia standards. Any tips/help would be appreciated. The article now is a work in progress - I hope to have it done in the next few days (hoping also that it doesnt get deleted immediately).

Hi, I have had to re-delete the article. It was previously deleted after this discussion. Therefore, you may not simply recreate the article unless the content is not substantially identical from the original (which it was). Basically, if you want to make an article on this person, it needs to be almost completely different from the deleted version. It also needs to address the issues raised at the above link. The main issue was:
Please write a draft version of the article, with completely new material and multiple independent references/sources to verify all the information. (Good references/sources are news articles, magazines, books, etc. that are not affiliated with him, but discuss him in detail.) I think manual reverting (actually, encouragement to write/develop articles, not just revert vandalism) is good for building character, but you've been mentoring him, so I guess it's your call. Lex and Terry

Can you direct me to the discussion about the deletion of this page? I understand that it sounded like adverstisement/self-endorsement, but the fact is that it was written by fans who took content from the radio show's website. The article was heavily flawed, but Lex and Terry are significant enough to warrant an article. A nationally syndicated radio show is pretty signifcant, I would think. PPI Assessment Follow-up

Hi Fetchcomms, recently you signed up to help with assessment on Wikiproject: United States Public Policy. This project is probably different than other assessment drives you have worked on, it involves more assessment of lower ranked articles, it has input and staff from the foundation, and specific goals to improve and measure content of public policy articles. It also involves collaboration from some university classes, we are using an experimental assessment rubric, and most articles will be assessed by multiple reviewers to get a range of scores for each article. It's a lot to digest, and totally understandable if it's not what signed up for. However, there are also some exciting perks to this project: 1) your assessments are part of research that is attempting to increase credibility of Wikipedia in academic circles, 2) there is a great group of assessors involved in discussion of what is article quality and how to measure it, 3) WP:USPP is also piloting the Article Feedback tool, so those involved in assessment on the project will be asked to help improve and rate this tool as well, 4) subject matter experts are assessing articles alongside Wikipedians and comparisons of results will provide some insight as to the rigor of Wikipedia quality rating, and 5) other interesting benefits you will find with participation.

The first group of articles requesting your assessment has been posted. I was hoping to do a preliminary comparison of the data on 8 October 2010. The second assessment request, which is part of the same comparison, will go out about the same time. To help with organization, if you haven't posted any assessment scores on your assessment page by 8 October 2010, I will delete your assessment request and you will not receive further requests. I hope the unusualness of this assessment research does not discourage your participation; if you are not interested working in the research I hope you will continue to assess articles within the project. If possible let me know on my talk page if you don't wish to be a part of the research, or perhaps if there was some confusion or bad communication; what the public policy team, and I, in particular, can do to make it more positive for volunteers. Remember, I am new to Wikipedia and trying to learn the best way to research this project, to hopefully integrate the amazing resource that is Wikipedia onto more university campuses and classrooms. NSFW. A hunter shoots a bear!

Not sure this is even worth bringing up but crazy issues sometimes get stuck in my craw. I _think_ the correct result of [1] should be keep because after sources were found there were 4 keeps (3 of which I'd say are policy-based) and 2 deletes (one policy based though pretty clearly mistaken). The early !votes were all pretty much "no sources, so not notable" and so should be ignored at this point. After the last relist no one else commented, not sure if that was a TLDR problem or the error in the relisting or what. I honestly don't care about the article but the close seems off. Thoughts? Either way I think this is an interesting AfD and would make for a good RfA question--it's not trivial. Hobit (talk) 17:41, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

I think you're right, except that I'm not so hasty to disregard the initial comments in favor of deletion. I am assuming good faith, of a sort, by assuming that they have looked for sources first and found them lacking in establishing notability (which may or may not be the case). I'm not wholly opposed to the article being recreated later if the notability is firmly established in the article, but I think some of the concerns in the AfD were valid. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 15:35, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, a bit confused. No sources were forthcoming until sgeureka found some. I think it strains reality to assume that the found the sources (which are fully about the subject) and discarded them without comment. Cleaning out the incubator

It had been sitting there for several months without anyone touching it. Someone already changed the template parameter to "delete". Even that was quite some time ago. If nobody bothers to improve the article for that long, then I'm not sure why it would matter to ask you if you could retrieve it anyway (and if you could not, WP:AI says "Articles that have been deleted from the incubator may be restored, at administrator discretion, if an editor agrees to work on them"). Anyway, I don't think this is a big issue, but we shouldn't be leaving copies of deleted articles and such around forever, userspace or projectspace, or anyspace. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 12:50, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to recommend again that you just look at the code of that template, which is located at User:Inka 888/top (oh, dear... Intelati appears to have forgotten to attribute the template code :/), and learn how to code tables. I can't "teach" you. I mean, you, uh, learn html and wikicode. Then, you use that knowledge to write a nice template. There's no "way" to tell you how to make one. I told you to look at your current one's source wikicode and use a table to make a similar template. Short of me just making a new one for you, I have no idea how further to explain this to you. If you do not know much html and/or wikicode at all, you can't do it. St. Louis and Kansas City as Featured Articles

Greetings fetchcomms. This is Jordan again. I just want to ask you if the St. Louis and Kansas City article are close to feature article status. If no how can I contribute to it. Also I have just created Almost five St. Louis Working groups and for some reason, I can't get the category on the template to appear. How do you solve this problem? Please get back to me.(Jordan S. St. Louis, Missouri and Kansas City, Missouri are not ready to become featured articles or good articles yet. There is a lot of work to be done with them. The most important thing right now, I think, is to remove any trivial or unimportant/irrelevant information, make sure the article is organized in a good way, and then make sure that all of the information is attributed to a reliable source. After that, I would go for a copyedit to check for spelling, grammar, etc. and then ask for more suggestions at the peer review page before nominating for good article/featured article status.

For the categories, I updated Template:WikiProject St. Louis, so they should now show up. Hope this helped! /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 23:54, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Ok, so I'm no longer the first to jump on the log at 0:00GMT but at least I beat you to the relists today :) However, when closing this one you forgot to remove the {{rescue}} tag. When closing an AFD you should check to article to see if there is a rescue tag that needs to be removed as well as making sure the script removed the AFD tag, it doesn't always do it.

On the subject of closing a little early, there have been several AN and DELPRO threads about this issue so when you do the midnight "log jump", only close the "slam-dunkers". Let the "coin flippers" and the "1 voters" tick out the full 168. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 00:27, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Yesterday, I had nothing to do, so I looked at the AfD list (and then I saw I was the only one closing them and thought I had jumped a day early! :P). I'll try to remember to check the tags and stuff, although I always end up deleting more than keeping them, so I forget. The opposite is true for me. As you know, until recently I could only close "keep" so I learned to check for these things. Another thing that can cross you up is that if an article is moved during the AFD period, then not only do you need to remove the AFD tag manually, you also have to move the oldafdfull tag from the old talk page to the new one because the Zman script doesn't follow redirects. I already did :) The template has some other parameters, which usually would appear when a user submits an article correctly, but as there was no tag on it originally, you don't need to worry because a bot will fix everything sooner or later. Help on Tables

Please see my hypothetical example below. Is there a way to take two separate sortable tables and "stack" them, one on top of the other? (So that, really, it is one big table that is an aggregation of two smaller sortable tables.) In the example below, there are 12 rows (and 5 columns). Above Row #1, I would want to add a new row as a header entitled "These are the AM Stations". And in between Row #6 and Row #7, I would want to add a new row as a header entitled "These are the FM Stations". But, I still would want the AM stations sortable in the top half ... and the FM stations sortable in the bottom half. But, I would want this all as one large table, instead of two separate tables. An update from adopt a user

Hi there Fetchcomms! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

This looked like a "delete" to you and at first glance it looked like a "delete" to me. Imagine my surprise when this AFD was used as a question in a recent RFA and the candidate said he'd keep it. Taking another look at it, it looks like the keepers were making a decent case. Maybe that's why Cirt relisted it a second time.

The relist was done in response to the sources mentioned, but I don't think it's completely correct to discard the opinions of the delete commenters. I'm assuming that they had searched, and found some of the links presented, but didn't consider that enough for notability. Actually, I'm not sure why I didn't close as no consensus right now (although I think Cirt relisted it again because he reversed his earlier delete decision after request). Hi, from some other articles that I have watchlisted I saw that you removed the links to INRA, because is had been speedily deleted as spam. INRA is a rather big research agency here in France and absolutely notable. I never saw that article, I think, and I don't doubt that it was overly promotional, but perhaps you can userfy it to my user space? I'd like to see whether I can perhaps make something useful out of it and it might be easier to pare this one down than to start from scratch (or course, sometimes the latter just is better). After about 6 weeks, he has uploaded another image, and after it was tagged & removed, simply uploaded it again. I'd like to comment on your deletion of the Lucy Mangan article.

This article was listed for deletion in AFD in bad faith by an administrator who had a personal beef with me over a comment I made on an article talk page that was directed at his recent edits on the page and decided to plaster it with boxes, stalk my page for any further comments and so on.

I believe This Wikipedia admin User:Toddst1 is violating WP:GAME (by following the rules to their advantage when they feel like it) and WP:ADMIN (by personally involving themselves e.g. making AFD's out of spite (as already suggested) and blocking me because I disagreed with their behaviour) and WP:HA by Wikihounding. For example, despite it being very early in the morning, this administrator made a knee-jerk reaction when I posted something on my userspace User Talk:Badanagram disagreeing with his tactics. The fact that this admin did this within minutes of my response shows that this admin was actively toting for a reason to block me whilst giving the impression to others that this was passive.

I know that I probably cannot ask for this article to be put back - but I would like someone to review the Admins recent decisions made and also make the admin community aware of his over-the-top behaviour in relation to an isolated incident that only required a deletion of the comment in this instance. Instead this admin decided that I had sockpuppets, I had created my IP address to be abusive to him (one comment) and making AFD listings on one of my articles, blocking my IP, making boxes linking ALL my identities DESPITE my change of name request being accepted for very good reason then changing his reasons for the block when he realised it was too weak - to add insult to injury the admin bullied me in to accepting some kind of deal on my userpage as if he was some kind of LAPD cop!

This admin is completely over the top in exercising his admin tools and I do not beleive he is fit to hold these tools if he continues to abuse them in this manner. Behaviour like this will make most casual editors like myself beleive that Wikipedia is nothing more than a meritocracy Badanagram (talk) 18:51, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

I found you have deleted the page created by me for K.V.Dominic. He is a reputed living writer of India English Writing. He has published nine books, innumerable articles, both critical and creative. He is also the chief editor of a journal IJPCL ( Indian Journal of Post Colonial Literature). I think such personality should possess a calibre to enlist in Wikipedia. If the article on him needs any more addition to cope with Wikipedian Category, it should be tagged with a comment. But I don't think deletion is theonly way to clean up any article. Because the entire nomination was a mistake. The nominator meant to get rid of the MINOR characters from the Gobot series and redirect them to the main Gobots page - he nominated a bunch of minor characters who I supported the redirects for, this was the only one I opposed. He mistakenly added the AFD to Turbo's page, but Turbo was one of the main characters of the series, in every episode - he's had numerous mentions in outside media. I know the page initially lacked third party sources, but I have since added several of them, I believe enough to prove that the character is notable. Most people voted to redirect, I believe, based on it being grouped with a bunch of non-notable characters from the same show, and the false assertion in it's nomination of being a non-notable character. Actually, a lot of people think that by providing more information (often unintentionally promotional in tone), they are helping. Here, much of the article contained copyvios. Also, the last clean version still reads fairly promotional. I thought it may have been easier to blow it up and start over, and if you look above, Crusio (talk · contribs) has already expressed interest in recreating it. I don't subscribe to the essay written by user:A Man In Black (RIP); it isn't a nice reason to delete the article created by David.Monniaux (talk · contribs). As for the copyvio's they were introduced by 138.102.135.242 (talk · contribs), which is an IP owned by INRA. Free license or not, the copyvio stuff was still promotional and unencyclopedic in tone. I personally believe that a redlink to the INRA page means someone will be willing to recreate a quality article, not wait around for the license to be confirmed for material that will need to be reworded later to be NPOV, anyway. If there's no article at all, someone will be motivated to make a new stub in 10 minutes and we'd be back to where we were before. OK, so in your skin's js page, add importScript('User:Tim Song/afchelper4.js');. Then, bypass your cache, and you should see either a new tab or a new drop-down menu choice saying "Review". Reference problem with edit war

Hi Fetchcomms, I recently added information to the Steve Ferrone and Warren Cuccurullo pages sourced from Modern Drummer magazine. The information about their having formed a group was sourced from a late September Modern Drummer Web News update. When I sourced the information, I added the retrieval date in my annotation of the reference. It is apparent that Modern Drummer revises information on their Web News update page without revising the URL. The information about their group has been just recently replaced. I am trying to source another good reference to cover the group. I am also currently involved in an edit war on both pages with an unregisterd reader/editor who is deleting the information. I have asked that the unregistered reader/editor discuss the issue on the talk pages before making any further edits. I would like to know if my reference with the retrieval date is still proper, although that information may no longer be available. (I have a copy of the full posting at that time, and I have removed the URL from the reference on both pages.) Also, if the reader/editor does not discuss the issue and continues to edit war, can his activity be curtailed so that I may search without distraction for another source this weekend? The reference should be valid still. You might consider looking at the Web Archive for a copy of the page, too. What you need to do is just talk to the other user on his/her talk page, and show them your saved copy if needed. Thanks for the advice. I tried the Way Back archive, however, it appears that the September Modern Drummer page is too recent for them. I will try to email Modern Drummer and see what they may be able to do. I would like to keep the quote from the Modern Drummer article in my page edits. The reader/editor's edits to both pages have come from two separate raw IP addresses. He has not responded yet today. I have also found other references that I can use to substantiate the existence of the collaboration, and I will be entering the best of those as a back-up sometime this weekend. Thanks for the help. Alright so there are references, but are they actually legit references? One of them is just it's location on google maps, another is a truck show page, and another is an internet radio. What you need to do is go to Articles for deletion and nominate it. I just removed the proposed deletion notice after skimming through some other sources online; it still has a pretty fair chance of getting deleted via the Articles for deletion process. Hi, recently I found this image was deleted. Plz I do not understand what the point behind this !! My friend this image has high significance to the article -- "Rajinikanth" in para "Politics". We/myself as a true wikipedian after researching many times whether an image will be suitable to an article based on merit only, we upload it. I beleive Our efforts must be given some consideration. Constantly reviewing it as an violation of non-free media is not fair and by itself it violates. Please see that, this image was a published one in news-article in 1996. It deserves the mention there. Reviewers please do take care more on these kind of images which has high significance and done neutral way to make the article more informative & complete.

Point is wiki - over a period of time has to grow, and article construction also need to grow. So it should be allowed if done a good work satisfying it rules. I did a good work there. Please reload it.

I cannot understand well what you are saying, but the image violates our non-free content policy, and had to be deleted. Wikipedia has to grow – with free content. I don't think you understand the non-free content policy; you did not address the issue:

There is no critical commentary of the image itself in the article. If anything a fair use image of "Rajinikanth riding a bicycle from the film Annamalai" would make much more sense as it is discussed in the article.

As such fails NFCC 8 as the image does nothing to aid in understanding the text it is supposedly representing and NFCC 1 as the subjects are still living.

Yo chaps, going to answer you all here. What we need to do as coordinators is make the show run smoothly. That principally involves:
Monitoring the ongoing RfC and implementing its consensus with as little friction as possible.
Setting up and monitoring the required candidate pages.
Quickly and accurately responding to any questions and problems raised at the election talkpage [this is the main job].
Identifying and stopping disruption [mostly in the form of inappropriate commentary and questions from voters, edit warring and so on].

Quotation from reference no longer available on internet

Hi Fetchcomms, This relates to my "Reference problem with edit war" post a few sections above. History - In an edit, I used a quote from a reference that showed the quote, and I linked to the site and identified a retrieval date in my reference annotation. The quote was taken from a news posting. The administrator of that referenced news posting page subsequently deleted the information including the quote, and provided new information on the page (exact same URL). The administrator does not maintain any archive of the old information (per my discussion with their site administrator.) I searched an archive internet page site and found no alternate source to use for a link. I subsequently have removed the link to the site in my reference, but have kept the quote in the text, along with the reference showing the source and retrieval date. Question - Can I maintain the quote as I originally wrote the edit with my reference as it is currently displayed, or should I delete the quote and the reference? The reference is reference 2. on the Steve Ferrone page. (I have a personal copy of the page as it was when it was a valid reference.) Doc2234 (talk) 23:22, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Translation Help

Hey Fetchcomms, the- from IRC referred me to your http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fetchcomms/fr page saying you were looking for help in translating the article. I myself am interested in updating an English language article using info from the equivalent French language article, and was looking for guidance on how to go about it (hence the visit to IRC). I have read the Wikipedia:Translation page, but as a relative newbie (whose only edits so far have been minor spelling/grammar changes), I was hesitant to tackle such a project on my own.
I would be glad to help out with the translation of the Meat Preservation article (although I must admit, that some of the french terms have got me stumped as to a translation), and would very much appreciate your guidance in how to go about translating another article.

Hi! I don't know what article you want to translate, but the process is relatively simple:
  1. If the corresponding English article does not exist here, create a short stub ("Something is a [whatever] thing.") If the English article already exists, but the French article contains more information, go to step 2.
  2. Gradually translate the French content into English, and just add it to the English article. As long as the translation is understandable, there should be no issues on this step.
    • Make sure you translate the references, as well. You can also add additional references not from the French article, as well as any additional information, during the translation.
  3. Add {{translated page}} to the talk ?page of the English article. This is required for copyright reasons, and the instructions on how to use it are at Template:Translated page.
As for the meat preservation article I am working on, I think I am doing fine right now (and I have some things I will need to fundamentally change later on), so I'm OK there. Thanks for the offer, and I hope my tips here help! /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 18:13, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

No problem :) It looks really great, it really does. If you have time, I hope you nominate it for good article status. Some minor suggestions for the future: on section headings in articles, only capitalize the first word (i.e., "Goal of policy" rather than "Goal of Policy") but still capitalize proper nouns in headings ("Transfer of authority from Coalition Provisional Authority to Iraqi Interim Government" is fine). I fixed some of these in the article but didn't get to all of them, so you might want to go back for that whenever you have some time (it's not a big deal). Also, when you have (even more) time, you can go back to the "References" section (the one with the bullet-point list, not the one with {{reflist}}) and embed the links under the titles, like you have under the "Notes" section (so it looks like Title rather than http://example.com). You can, use {{cite web}}, {{cite book}} etc. for that list, too, if you want to convert that whole list, which will take a while. WikiCup 2010 October newsletter

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to New South Wales Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists – White Shadows (submissions), William S. Saturn (submissions), Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) and Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.

Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is New South Wales Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is Connecticut Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.

The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it.
