Albedo One[edit]

Albedo One was in danger of being deleted. I noted you as one of the early contributers. Not sure if you have a horse in the race or not.

I am just writing to let you know, I substantially edited it and rewrote it. But being unfamiliar to the subject, I could not confirm it still makes sense. Fortunately in wiki land, all things can be undone.

The unimpeachable change I made was creating the magazine info box, and fleshing out some of the references. --K3vin (talk) 13:39, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm watching you, but not stalking!![edit]

No problem. I really must prune my watchlist, but find that harder and harder now that it has passed the 600 mark. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 04:44, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pepsi Wylde[edit]

Oh, I'll just nominate Pepsi Wylde for AFD. I suppose technically as someone has challenged the Speedy, it is the proper thing to do. Five minutes of my life that I won't get back though. :) FlowerpotmaN·(t) 12:36, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Seeing the IP's are somehow all drawn to an article while they have never edited before, i assume whoever is removing the speedies is just a sock for the username in question. Maybe it is indeed better to just AFD the thing, since its quite the well covered hoax (I mean, where did that logo come from?). Either way, if the IP's will remove the templates as well, i think ill just waste 5 minutes myself on creating a WP:SSP case on this :). finding things to edit[edit]

hi flowerpotman! i haven't been very active with wikipedia recently. But i do remember that you welcomed me when i first arrived... I need some advice: how can i find articles suitable for me to edit? I specialise in making big, clumsy articles more concise and to the point. thanks tim Timothymurphy (talk) 16:11, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tell you what: give me a few minutes/hours and I'll drop a few ideas on your talk page. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 18:34, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why not check out some of the articles in Category:Ireland articles needing attention. They may not all be long and clumsy but do need attention for various things. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 18:59, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, good idea WW2. I was going to suggest checking out Cleanup and redlink recovery Wikiprojects as well. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 19:12, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I though it best to stick with Irish articles as I don't know his other interests. Of course we also have the Irish Wikipedian's To do List and if anyone is really ambitious they could try to work on some of the demoted Irish Featured articles to bring them back to FA status (one must expand page to see the demoted ones). That should keep him going for a few months!! ww2censor (talk) 19:53, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure you aren't dropping me a hint as well? ( ;)!) Must take a look at WP:Ireland stuff soon. I have been easing myself back into the swing of things gently. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 19:57, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No ulterior motive at all, just general encouragement. ww2censor (talk) 20:21, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is still purring along! ww2censor (talk) 21:41, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, the heady optimism of 2007! Although, that said, despite all the doom 'n' gloom reporting, Ireland isn't going back to the 1980's. A rough year to 18 months ahead, but even the worst predictions I have seen are saying we are going back a couple of years at worst. I remember the 80's; this ain't them. Anyhoo, off to install recession-busting Linux on a spare hard-disk. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 22:07, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I remember the 1970s and 80s well with up to 25% unemployment and I was working freelance. We used to say that we were unemployed except when we had an assignment. Unfortunately I have not lived in Ireland for any of the tiger so have lost out on that era and its profit as the US was decent but not that good. Now it is really crap here but I look forward to returning to the Wicklow hills for some of my retirement, not too far from this place. ww2censor (talk) 22:53, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nice place all right; I've been through it, though I wouldn't fancy it tonight when it's going to hit -8. Still trying to thaw out after spending a half-hour walking tonight. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:28, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

coins, issue datres, et al[edit]

I'm pretty sure I can find the actual issue dates as well - I expect that they are listed in 'Irish Numismatics' and I have the full set so I can look it up - the 5 and 10 pence were so similar to the shlling and florin that no familiarity issues arose.

I'm unconvinced by the familiarity argument for the fifty pence's early issue, removal of the 10 shilling note and the halfcrown left a large gap of 10:1 between the largest coin and the smallest note and a this was a problem (the Pearse 10 Shilling introduced in 1966 having been rejected as a circulating coin, which it was intended to be to replace the 10 shilling note) - modern currencies rarely work properly with much higher than a 5:1 ratio, with lower ratios such as 2 : 1 , 2 1/2 : 1 being quite commonly used.

In reality the decimalisation process was driven entirely by the English dates with Ireland just following suit, albeit somewhat delayed as the English 5 and 10 pence coins were issued in 1968 and ours in 1969 (with Irish shilling and florins still being issued in 1968). As the English coins circulated freely in the Republic at par the English 10p and 5p coins appeared in circulation in Ireland well before our decimal coins came out. I was living here at the time and was already collecting coins at the time.

Eric Macfadyen[edit]

Thanks for helping with this but I think it's still wrong unfortunately. The proper spelling of his name is with the small 'f' rather than the captial. When you enter Eric Macfadyen in the search box, both spelling options are offered. Whichever you follow it takes you to the page where his name in the heading is spelled with the capital F.

Message from Kelsconsonants[edit]

Hey Flowerpotman, I did edit the page that I created and I added the importance of the person. I did label the edit and create the talk page for it and added why she was important on that as well. This person is my girlfriend and I did it for her birthday... thought it would be kinda cool. Is there anything else I can do to keep it up? Kelsconsonants (talk) 01:22, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Durvexity[edit]

I would greatly appreciate it if you remove my article from deletion flagging. This is a serious phenomenon that I feel needs attention. Most Wall Street jargon slips under the rug and generally doesnt concern the vast majority of the public, but this topic merits discussion, and has been the focus of my research for some months. The very fact that is has not been mentioned in popular press should give credence to the need in such a forum that Wikipedia provides. If the goal of Wikipedia is truly to educate the public, then why should we deprive them of that? My goal is to bring increased transparency to the financial markets, and to the extent that a wikipedia article can help achieve that goal, I am willing t open the doors to some of my work. If you have a serious objection to this article being posted on this forum, then do what you will. However, if your interest is nothing more than passing, I ask that you please abstain from impeding the free-flow of knowledge on an albeit esoteric function of the currently dislocated financial markets.

Regards, RiccoBenardio (talk) 17:44, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • It would probably more appropriate to reply to this on the Durvexity AFD within the context of the discussion and your comment there, which I shall do in a few minutes. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:46, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: darn[edit]

I think my report might have been a bit premature since it's likely it wasn't Brexx like I suspected, but oh well, at least my instincts were half right. I guess after spending a few hours cleaning up after Brexx last escapades I've got less patience for these things. And at least filing the investigation seems to have stopped this one in his tracks, which was my real concern. Siawase (talk) 19:33, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

re: Oh I know how that goes. I think we were a bunch of people hesitating to report one of the last Brexx socks. It's funny though, if indeed this one wasn't Brexx, how similar the edits of these future-releases-obsessed sock-puppeteers are, though Danielguillanissexiness edited more in the field of movies and Brexx more in the field of music, they converged nicely on the Lindsay Lohan article, which is what I'm primarily keeping an eye on. Siawase (talk) 20:20, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
re: "The problem with his (or her) edits was that each one had to be checked" Yeah, tell me about it. It's sad with these editors where just assuming good faith isn't enough. I do believe they (mostly) want to help improve wikipedia, and a few edits end up doing that, after heavy cleanup from other editors. But overall, their edits just create too much work for others since they can never really be trusted at face value. And yeah, after looking over the contribs of all the socks, I do believe this socker most likely wasn't Brexx. But oh well, one can only hope that one day they'll slow down enough to learn to follow policy and listen to consensus. I still have some feeble hope they could be really good contributors if they'd only do that. ^^; Siawase (talk) 14:05, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes sure, in last someone wants help me here in wikipedia, I dont doubt thanks, the problem is that I've made constructive changes to articles such as Dublin, Ireland and Irish people, but I see all my eforts going into reverts by other users, I need you to take my defense to keep those constructive articles, thats by checking them all and giving your HELPFUL opinion. thanks and SOS. Mysticshade (talk) 06:35, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Flowerpotman. I know you are well capable of will make up your decision to assist Mysticshade or not, but may I suggest, before making up your mind, that you check out his user talk page and see the warnings he has been given and also look at the page history to see how many times he has had his edits reverted. His image additions don't add to the reader's understanding of the articles mentioned above but are being used only as decoration which is contrary to image use policy and just clutter the articles with overuse. He has now been blocked for a week on the commons for copyright violations of some of the same images he had inserted in the above articles. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 06:57, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's all a bit academic at the moment as Mysticshade is (errrr...) taking a holiday, in possibly more than one sense. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 16:20, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed I just noticed his enforced temporary retirement! ww2censor (talk) 17:05, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I had just noticed his permanent retirement too, though he may reappear elsewhere, so we need to be vigilant. I have tracked down many of his commons copyvios and had them deleted, but I have not been able to find the remainder which is a time consuming process. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 16:38, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes,chances are that he will reappear. There seems to be a common thread of targets, which at least gives articles to watchlist. I'll take a look at the edits fdrom the Mysticshade account and see if anything needs fixing. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 17:00, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It does not look like there is much left to clean up. ww2censor (talk) 17:14, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The one I was just checking was the Netherlands GDP estimate, which is correct. I'm not convinced that IMF-estimated GDP figures should be used myself, but it does seem to be done on a lot of articles, and the figures used on the Netherlands article are correct according to the reference. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 17:17, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ballard Nuggets[edit]

I'm the chap behind the Ballard Nuggets page, it's not a fantasy team we really are an Irish 5-A-Side football team, we won the FAI's charity 5-A-Side tournament for the last 3 years running, hence I think we deserve a wikipedia page.

The team finished playing proper competition games after last season, but we decided to enter a new league for the laugh last week.

Regards, bombermurphy

  • Well, the only reference I could find for the Ballard Nuggets was on a fantasy site here. Honestly I don't think even a real team would get past Wikipedia's notabilty criteris, but if have any surces for the existence of that team, add them to the Ballard Nuggets article and I'll definitely take a second look. Cheers. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:57, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • We had a fantasy football team too about a year or so ago, though that ended quickly as it wasn't as fun as the real thing, I suppose we mightn't be important enough for wikipedia, I don't think theres any sources for existence of our team, we do play in the http://www.astro.ie/ league system. Delete if you want, I suppose.

Regards, bombermurphy 13:51, 22/2/09

I saw that Closedmouth removed your prod, I had reinserted, without any reason and without following the WP:PROD procedure. Do you want to AfD it? I will certainly support that. ww2censor (talk) 17:50, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I missed that. (Ummmm, sorry, I was checking something that is mentioned above.) I was hoping an AFD wouldn't be necessary here, but I'll get around to it in a few minutes. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 17:57, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ballard Nuggets is now on AfD and it seems to be snowing. ww2censor (talk) 19:25, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yup. Really should have gone for a speedy and I'm still not quite sure why I decided for a prod. Oh, look at the history of my AFD'ing, and spot when my computer crashed. :) Seems to be my mouse; defiinitely not a virus, but it seems to be developing a habit of skittering across the screen and pushing buttons at speed and at random. Something in the mouse itself has gone. Could be old age; it's one I dug up froma drawer a couple of weeks ago when I actually managed to short out the other one, while coming darn close to blowing my motherboard. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 19:37, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can delete the page if you like, we are a real 5-A-Side team though, and a damn good one at that! Regards, bombermurphy 19:42, 23/2/09

Esperanto[edit]

Thank you so much for reverting the vandalism done to Esperanto. I was also trying to revert it but had trouble; for some reason it wouldn't work. Just showing my appreciation. ¶ The user who did this vandalism, Zero Douji, also made some other destructive edits. How can they be blocked? Jchthys u.p. / cont.

No problem. I saw a few edits from Zero_Douji and I was just cleaning up, as a couple of other people were. And the Zero Douji account has been blocked, so hopefully, he might find something better to do. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 02:16, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to thank you as well. I was reading the (correct) page, and refreshed it, and was shocked. Good catch. I'm not used to editing on Wikipedia, so I apoligize if I haven't formated this correctly. BenthamBentham (talk) 02:22, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Actually I just put in the message on the top of my page about how to reply, using a template message, and now that I look at it, it is a bit intimidating. I'll add something to it tomorrow to the effect that if someone leaves a message and the formatting is a bit off, the world or Wikipedia isn't going to grind to a halt :).
