Hi. I think I must be going mad. I have been trying to add an image file to an article but the image just does not appear. I have been following the FAQ but to no avail.

I really could use some help to explain why the image is not appearing

Try capitilizing the jpg suffix/file extention(Image:Leopardstown 01.jpg → Image:Leopardstown 01.JPG). Its cap-sensitive (and really annoying because of that at times). (I've miscapitilized quite a few images in my past, only thing more annoying is the random image won't show-up bug that seem to show up in commons: from time to time. Hope that works.
