Verb tense[edit]

You recently made an edit with the summary "Discontinued products = "was/were"". This is not actually standard practice here at wikipedia. We adopt the present tense for discussing objects in the abstract whether they were discontinued or not. You may be confusing the matter with whether the product was canceled. If it was canceled then it may be fair to use past tense, but if it was actually released (and thus it really exists in the present) then we use present tense even if it's now no longer produced by or supported by the parent manufacturer.

  • e.g. - We can say "The Victrola is a machine that was used throughout the 1920s to play 78 inch records." even though the Victrola is a long-discontinued product. The "was" tips off the reader that the product is no longer is common use, bu the "is" refers to the object in the abstract (and presumably the actual object sitting in the collector's home).

  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.
