I really don't know what is going on here - am I posting to somebody, everybody, nobody?

My simple and sincere request is that I be allowed to supplement Wikipedia articles with my 360° panoramic photographs, a unique and valuable form of documentation. The most practical way of doing this is by linking to the appropriate pages on my website 360panos.com, which in turn link to the rich media, maintained and presented on my website. So far as I know nothing in the Wiki family supports this particular sort of imagery. G. Donald Bain (talk)

Your photographs[edit]

Hi G. - I took a look at one of the panaroma's and could see some of them falling under WP:ELYES #3 "neutral and accurate material that is relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the subject." However, I see several problems. First, the standard you are applying, "add value to the wikipedia articles by illustrating in a uniquely impartial manner the reality of the location" is not Wikipedia's standard. The external link needs to be justified under Wikipedia:External links. Second, you appear to be indiscriminately ("methodically") adding links from wikipedia pages of a geographic nature to pages on my site that contain 360° panoramas of that location. Each external link needs to be relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the subject. Merely being a 36o degree view does not mean it is relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the subject. That understanding needs to be justified by the text of the Wikipedia article, not a personal belief. Third, and the biggest problem, is that you are violating WP:COI. Since the external links are to your personal website and you don't meet the terms of WP:CURATOR, you are limited to actions described in WP:COIU when it comes to those external links - which means do not add those external links. However, everything changes if you decide to donate those 360 degree images or just a screen shot to creative commons. The creative commons images can have your name/website in the creative commons URL, you can post the actual image into the article itself (no need for an external link), and all that can be linked back to your web page.
