Happy Adminship Anniversary!

Wishing GB fan a very fan happy adminship anniversary on behalf of the Birthday Committee! Best wishes! CAPTAIN RAJU(T) 05:50, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

I don't understand how this has ended up deleted. Since it has valid targets it needs to be either a redirect or a dab. It's been both in its history so I fail to see the justification of the speedy delete. SpinningSpark 16:41, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

I couldn't tell you what I was thinking in April when I did that. I have restored it. ~ GB fan 18:08, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Article deletion

Hi GB fan,
if I want a redirect deleted to free up the space for an article I wrote, what is the correct procedure?
Thanks and kind regards, Grueslayer 12:36, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

Grueslayer, I believe you are talking about Septic Death. That page is a redirect based on the outcome of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Septic Death. If you think your draft, User:Grueslayer/tmp4, is sufficiently different from the version that was sent to AFD (this) and shows that the band is notable, then you should just replace the redirect with your new article. Nothing needs or should be deleted. ~ GB fan 17:00, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
Hi GB fan,
ah, I forgot to look up the history - I thought the old article was actually deleted, but it was just replaced by a redirect. That makes sense then, I'll copy my text over the redirect. I've written the article from scratch - if the cited sources are enough to safely depict notability is not in my hands.
Thanks and kind regards, Grueslayer 18:03, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Deletion - J Ewel

Hello GB fan, I would like to request that you please reconsider the decision not to allow for a deletion if the J Ewel page. He is emphatic that he does not want a biography on WP, and this biography was posted by a student that failed to get the proper authorization from him to do so (an important part of the class assignment). In fact, he told the student explicitly that he didn’t want a page. He contactsd me directly requesting it be deleted.

I feel that whenever possible we should try to respect the wishes of the members of our community, and this is a minor request in that the page had no more that the most basic biographical information that is available on many other sites. Please, I am asking that we do the right thing and respect his wishes. Embruna (talk) 19:43, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

If you believe it should be deleted you can take it to WP:AFD. ~ GB fan 19:54, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for responding so quickly, ~ GB fan - I'll do that. Before I go to WP:AFD, can you tell me why you disagree with the the request to delete? Given the circumstances, the presumption in favor of privacy for biographies of living persons, and also that "the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment." This person is clearly very distressed by the presence of this article and wishes it to be removed. That would seem to be reason enough.Embruna (talk) 20:32, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
If someone is marginally notable then their request can tip a deletion discussion to delete rather than keep or no consensus. Am individual's request is not enough to say an article should be deleted. There is no requirement that a living person must give their permission for anything to be published about them. ~ GB fan 09:01, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Boo!

Dan Gasser deletion

Hi "GB Fan". The above now contains unverifiable information about a BLP, as the subject has deleted his Twitter page, which the article relied heavily on. You may delete the latest tag if you wish, as you did the last one, but please bear in mind that by doing so, you will be keeping an article that now clearly breaches WP:BLP. 2A02:C7F:7739:8700:50AD:C14F:6587:41E4 (talk) 20:17, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

BLPPROD does not apply as there are sources on the article. You will need to use WP:AFD. ~ GB fan 20:19, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Bashir Haj Ali

No contest, but how to handle this? The author is clearly circumventing the AfC process, and lying in the attached templates. Take it to AfD? ANI? A stern warning? Kleuske (talk) 10:48, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Kleuske, No warnings or ANI is needed, as they are not breaking any policies. If they believe it is ready and you do not believe the person is notable, then a discussion at AFD is the appropriate venue to resolve this. ~ GB fan 10:59, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion decline

Why did you decline this speedy deletion? I had made it, because the article already exists, and wanted to move the article to draft space. But the article is developed now. But still, cannot it be deleted just because the article already exists? Article + draft...isn't it gaming the system? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 12:29, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

Articles can only be moved to Draft space once. If someone creates it again after it has been moved to draft, then the proper course of action is to use a deletion process for the article. In this case that would be WP:PROD or WP:AFD. It is not gaming the system for someone to believe an article is ready for the mainspace and create an article. The recreation is an objection to the draftification of the article, so it should go to WP:AFD or WP:PROD. ~ GB fan 12:41, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
Ok thanks for giving me this new knowledge. ItcouldbepossibleTalk 13:14, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

Re:Mayor pf Wigan

Hi, why did you remove the template please? Failing WP:A7 is criteria for speedy deletion. If for some reason not speedy, then it still qualifies for deletion. CalSmith2 (talk) 10:19, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

CalSmith2, WP:A7 does not apply to the article, Mayor of Wigan. A7 only applies to articles about a real person, individual animal, commercial or non-commercial organization, web content, or organized event. The Mayor of Wigan is a position, not any of those things. If it was about a specific Mayor then it would be an eligible subject, but the position itself is not an eligible subject. If you believe the article should be deleted then you will need to use WP:AFD. ~ GB fan 14:25, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi there, I saw that you declined the speedy delete request, however the draft clearly is a duplicate of a now-existing article. AfD is not an appropriate venue (I'm not challenging the entry, just the duplicate), so what would be the proper way to request deletion and get this thing out of the AfC backlog? Thanks, Popo le Chien throw a bone 10:40, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

There is no speedy deletion criterion that applies to this draft. You could nominate it at WP:MFD but that would be rejected as havng the draft does not hurt anything. The best course of action is to leave it alone and in six months it is eligible for WP:G13. That is the best advice for all Drafts, leave them alone. Every time someone edits a Draft they reset the WP:G13 clock. In this case the clock started 10 November 21 which made it eligible for speedy deletion 10 May 22. Your edit reset the clock to 17 February 22, it is now eligible for speedy deletion 17 August 22. ~ GB fan 11:02, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi there, GB fan!

I noticed you deleted my notice on the redirect page Direct wikipedia search from opera, which redirects to Opera (Web browser).

Do you have any idea for a more appropriate notice?

Hi there. I notice that you deleted this page because it was PRODed. In researching, I think she would easily pass WP:GNG and was wondering if you could undelete it so I could work on it. Misslin was a notable teacher. There is an obituary in Opera Wire (see Francisco Salazar (January 7, 2022). "Obituary: Renowned Teacher Patricia Misslin Dies at 81". Opera Wire. In addition to this ref, I have access to several independent sources with significant coverage where she is the primary subject, including this feature article: Kandell, Leslie (April 2002). "The Misslin Guide". Opera News. 66 (10): 10-11. and this doctoral dissertation Dufault, Jenny Elizabeth (2008). Three exemplary voice teachers: David Adams, Stephen King, & Patricia Misslin; their philosophies & studio techniques (PhD). University of Minnesota. This article, "New England Conservatory of Music Tries to Lure Top Musicians, Raise Profile". The Boston Globe. October 19, 2003., states she was a high profile voice teacher brought onto the New England Conservatory's faculty to raise the profile of the school and lure top students. Additionally, her work / philosophy as as a voice pedagogue is discussed in Susan Boddie (2021). Vocal Consistency and Artistic Freedom: Existentialism and Vocal Instruction in Higher Education. Common Ground Research Networks. ISBN 9781863352406. There are likely other articles in The Journal of Singing and American Voice Teacher which discuss her work/ impact. All together this passes wikipedia's notability guidelines. Best.4meter4 (talk) 04:54, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

That is a word for word quote from a news source and it has been in every edition of the article. @RandomCanadian: would you like to chime in?...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 18:44, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Question about deprods

In an article that I had PRODed you wrote in the summary that it cannot be restored for any reason, while the policy page states that in can be added in cases of page blanking, vandalism (the case with this article) , and block/ban evasion. Could you please explain if there is anything I have misunderstood? To clarify I don't plan to restore the PROD, I know the policy but I might have misunderstood a part of it. - Kevo327 (talk) 17:57, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

There are exceptions to the general rule that removal of a PROD is not restorable. No exceptions apply to the removal of this PROD. The removal of the PROD was not vandalism as defined in the policy. ~ GB fan 18:46, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

KeithSNP I assume you mean that you were using a copy of an existing article as a template to edit to make a new article. On that basis I will restore it and move it to a sandbox in your user space. Hello, GB fan,

You removed a PROD tag that had been replaced after being removed. The deletion rationale was that it was an unsourced BLP. I tagged it with a BLPPROD tag, I believe that this is a separate process and isn't considered a second PROD but I thought I'd check with you. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:30, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Liz, the problem I have with BLPPROD is that it was sourced until this edit. Then a single purpose editor removed all the sources with an edit summary of "Removing fake updates". I do not believe it should be eligible for BLPPROD either. I still believe it should have to go to AFD. ~ GB fan 17:19, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Template redirects

Hi there, I saw this edit. Can you steer me to the right place to discuss these? Hello, GB fan,

I saw your removal of a PROD tag on this article. When I looked for an AFD/VFD discussion though, I couldn't find one. This exact scenario happened to me with another PROD, where I saw in the page history that there was an VFD so I removed the PROD tag and when an editor came to me asking to look over the deletion discussion, I couldn't find it so I ended up nominating the article for deletion at AFD. Am I looking in the wrong place? I followed the link in the original tag which directed me to Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Rudyard Griffiths but there is no page there. Can you point me in the right direction so this doesn't happen to me again? They must have archived these old deletion discussions somewhere, right? Liz Read! Talk! 00:31, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hello, GB fan,

I passed along some thanks to you because I came across some pages where you justifiably declined to delete that were tagged for CSD speedy deletion but were mistagged. I like to see instances of CSD tag removal by an admin when the criteria don't fit the circumstances because it indicates to me an admin who is doing a careful review of the article or draft. There was a situation about 3 or 4 years ago when some admins who patrolled the CSD categories were less than thorough about evaluating tagged pages and I think the current situation is such a big improvement. If it isn't too presumtuous for me to say, thank you for being a part of that improvement! Liz Read! Talk! 02:05, 6 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, I try my best to strictly apply the criterion. I know there were admins that were very lenient with the criteria. Things seem to be getting better. ~ GB fan 00:36, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

New MegaMack02 Sock

I recently tagged 2 of @SpamMan247’s edits for G5, which were later declined. I have behavioral evidence against this man as a MegaMack sock:

Brand new account created within a month after his previous sockpuppets (2018 McLaren 600LT and Bugs Meanie) were blocked. Obviously pirated username (SpamMan247, Spamfighter247). Account supposedly created to help out with spam and vandalism, something MegaMack has inadvertently stated that he intends to do, for example in his edits prior to his vandalism and ban. User does not use the standard vandalism warning templates and instead leaves personalized messages instead. SpamMan247 was using doublecheck.wikiloop.org to find vandalism, and somehow managed to set up and use within 3 edits of joining. His spam fighting campaign has had the exact same WP:CIR issues as Thegameshowlad and MegaMack02’s previous socks and involved reverting several edits that were blatantly not vandalism. The account has created one article, Tirrito Cars and recreated Samsung SSC-1 (a draft page frequently targeted by 3 MegaMack02 socks) as Samsung Sports Car-1. Their edits there involved blatant recreation and adding information in the infoboxes that was added to various articles as the final edit of @McLaren 570S before they got blocked. Looking at their contributions you'll see the same style of aggressive edit summaries against edits they deem to be vandalism (the same as Spamfighter247 and MegaMack02) and the same inconsistent use of RVV to mean revert (similar to Thegameshowlad’s previous sock Spamfighter247), rather than the much more common RV. I would like either you or @BlueNoise to file an SPI against him. Thank you. 67.53.217.198 (talk) 20:33, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

I won't go through all the evidence and file the SPI. You can do it yourself, the page is at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MegaMack02. ~ GB fan 20:51, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Berbers in Sudan

Hello, you just reverted my speedy deletion request for "Berbers of Sudan". I don't understand why this misleading lemma should remain, even as a redirect to the valid lemma Berbers, as there never have been any Berbers in Sudan. Munfarid1 (talk) 13:50, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Munfarid1, it doesn't need to remain. Speedy deletion is only usable in very neatly defined criterion. The closest one that might apply to your reasoning is WP:R3. It does not apply in this case because it only applies to recently created redirects. This redirect was created 21 September 2017‎, not recently. The proper venue to have the redirect deleted is WP:RFD. Follow the directions in the section How to list a redirect for discussion to nominate it for deletion. ~ GB fan 14:41, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Category:Registered parks and gardens in Swansea

Hi GB fan - thanks for helping me out with that redundant category. Unfortunately, I've made another error. The above cat should actually be Category:Registered historic parks and gardens in Swansea, including historic to match the others I've done. Unlike an article, it appears that only admins can move/rename cats. Any chance you would be able to do that? Renaming or moving, as you think best. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks and regards. KJP1, that can be done via Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy and has already been requested by DankJae. TSventon (talk) 15:05, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Kopparberg and Aspeboda Court District

The removal of my tag according to your statement: remove PROD, PROD can not be used on redirects. Do you think your contribution was productive in improving the acribi of Wikipedia? Is it better to have a fake redirect than a violation of an obscure clause that 0.1% of the editors know about? Creuzbourg (talk) 20:23, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

My removal of your PROD had nothing to do with improving Wikipedia. You added a PROD to a redirect. If you read the policy that I linked to, specifically the fifth paragraph it says:
PROD is only applicable to mainspace articles, lists, set indices, disambiguation pages, and files not on Commons. Proposed deletion cannot be used with redirects, user pages (except user books), drafts, templates, categories, or pages in any other namespace.
The part of that paragraph that I want to direct your attention to is the sentence that starts with Proposed deletion cannot be used with redirects. The way to get the redirect deleted is to use the redirects for deletion process.
If you need any assistance let me know. ~ GB fan 21:16, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

User:Polish kurd/sandbox

Hi, thanks for deleting User:Polish kurd/sandbox. Shortly after the deletion, the user recreated it with yet another hoax. While they have made some mainspace edits, they seem to be using their sandbox to create fake articles for an off-wiki game site. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 21:07, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

The Apocalypse of Settler Colonialism:The Roots of Slavery, White Supremacy and Capitalism in Seventeenth Century North America and the Caribbean

Hi. I nominated The Apocalypse of Settler Colonialism:The Roots of Slavery, White Supremacy and Capitalism in Seventeenth Century North America and the Caribbean for deletion under WP:CSD R3, as I think the missing space after the colon is an implausible typo, and The Apocalypse of Settler Colonialism: The Roots of Slavery, White Supremacy, and Capitalism in Seventeenth-Century North America and the Caribbean already exists as a redirect (with the space after the colon). You declined it as the R3 criteria does not apply. Can you explain why it doesn't apply so I don't make the same mistake again? Bennv123 (talk) 11:39, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

A missing space does not make it an implausible typo. ~ GB fan 11:40, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

New Article

Greetings GB fan, I recently created an article which went though speedy deletion. It was ready to publish but inadvertently became a redirect. As I prepare to reattempt to publish the article can I do so under the same title, with the same content? Is the best way to do this to move it to the main space from my sandbox? I am contacting you under instructions following the speedy deletion (See below). Any guidance appreciated. Many thanks EastLondonGooner (talk) 20:58, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

I am not sure what you are asking. The page Johnny Reynolds (footballer) was a redirect to Trevor Bumstead. It has 3 revisions

There was no article content in that page, just a redirect. If you want to create an article you can create it. ~ GB fan 21:25, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
To simplify, can I create the article under the name 'Johnny Reynolds (footballer)'? Apologies for not being clear initially. I appreciate your input. EastLondonGooner (talk) 21:24, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
Like I said in the last response, If you want to create an article you can create it. ~ GB fan 11:20, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
