Article categories in sandbox[edit]

You appear to be working on an article in User:GORDONEH/SANDBOX, but you left regular article categories on the page. I've removed them, as userpages (even if they're sandboxes or article drafts) don't belong in article categories. Drop me a line if you have any questions. I've been reminded that there are a couple of other options when working on drafts in userspace. You can write the category link as normal, but with a colon in front of the name - [[:Category: Earth]] instead of [[Category: Earth]], for example.. That will create a regular old link without placing the page in the category. You can also put "nowiki" tags around the categories, which will render the text exactly the way it appears in the editing window, with no wiki markup. Either of these will allow you to keep the categories in your draft without categorizing the page. Natalie (talk) 19:06, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personal sandboxes[edit]

I'm sorry you got bad information about personal sandboxes. If you can possibly remember where you read that, I'd like to clarify it for future readers. The relevant policy can be found at Wikipedia: Categories, specifically Wikipedia:Categories#User_namespace, which specifically mentions sandboxes. I'm sorry you feel like your tripping over the rules. I can imagine this is a common feeling among new contributors, but other Wikipedians are pretty used to overlooking all sorts of new-contributor mistakes. No one will hold your mistakes against you, as long as you keep acting in good faith. Natalie (talk) 15:19, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
