Digital Anthropology research

Hello Gaia Octavia Agrippa, My name is Stephanie Barker and I am a student at the University of Colorado Boulder. I am currently enrolled in a Digital Anthropology class, which attempts to answer how the digital world affects culture and how culture affects the digital world. For my final project I am doing an ethnography on women Wikipedia users and as a member of the WikiProject Women page I was hoping I could ask you some questions about your experiences editing Wikipedia pages. 1. Have you ever been locked into an intense editing war? If yes, please explain the situation to me. 2. How did you become interested in editing Wikipedia pages and did you have any initial fears/hesitations when you started editing pages? 3. Have you ever been a victim of a mass deletion or other vandalism on Wikipedia? If yes, please explain the situation to me. 4. How would you describe your gender? 5. Is there anything else you would like to share with me about your experiences as a Wikipedia editor? I would like you to know that I am only sharing my research with my professor and the other students in my class. If you would like me to send you a copy of my final project, I would be more than happy to! Sincerely, Stelba90 (talk) 01:16, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Elwin Cockett

I am Elwin Cockett. Thank you for your excellent work in compiling a page about me. Perhaps I might be allowed to suggest some edits:

The sequence of my education is that I attended Akosombo International School in Ghana for a year before returning to England and going to Malmesbury Primary School in Bow, in East London. As you correctly say, I then went to St Paul's Cathedral School and from there to Forest School on a music scholarship.

I was elected as the Student President at Oak Hill College. In terms of my own churchmanship, it would be fair to say that I am an 'Open Evangelical', and that the church where I served my curacy, St Chad's, Chadwell Heath, is also an Open Evangelical parish, rather than a 'Conservative Evangelical' one.

I am a trustee of Aston Mansfield, a charity working in Newham (https://www.aston-mansfield.org.uk/Pages/FAQs/Category/our-trustees), as well as being a governor of Forest School and a trustee of George Richards' Charity (http://opencharities.org/charities/246965)

I am still an active musician, most notably with the 'Dry Bones Band'. I am a keen motorcyclist, with a particular interest in Triumph bikes.

My son's website is at www.thomaselwin.com My daughters are Sarah and Rachel.

Hi Gaia, I've just tried to email you, but I see you don't have email enabled. Would you mind emailing me? SarahSV (talk) 02:10, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello SarahSV! I'm a firm believer in keeping things open on Wikipedia. Would you be comfortable making a comment here? I assume this is about Samuel Shephard. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 02:13, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
I was hoping to discuss it with you in detail, but in brief the article violates WP:BLP1E. As you can see from the sourcing, you're having to use primary sources because there aren't enough secondary sources for his biographical details. That's always a red flag. SarahSV (talk) 02:22, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
Sheppard is a recipient of the George Cross (the joint highest award in the UK honours), and is therefore notable as per WP:ANYBIO; "The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor". Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 02:31, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

WP:ANYBIO is a guideline. The policy is WP:BLP and the relevant section is WP:BLP1E:

"We should generally avoid having an article on a person when each of three conditions is met:
"If reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event.
"If that person otherwise remains, and is likely to remain, a low-profile individual. ...
"If the event is not significant or the individual's role was either not substantial or not well documented."

In this case, all three conditions are met. The first two are self-explanatory. The third (the event not being significant) means that the event is not one that WP would otherwise cover. SarahSV (talk) 02:39, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

The "event" in question is not the retrieval of his comrades body, but him being awarded the highest decoration in the realm. That counts as a significant event and therefore all three conditions are not met. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 02:49, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
The event is the issue for which he was given the award. But even if the event is the award itself, there is no persistent coverage as the policy requires: "The significance of an event or individual is indicated by how persistent the coverage is in reliable sources." There are hardly any secondary sources. There are no secondary sources for biographical information, unless you count the article about the Schools' Cup. You've had to cobble the article together from primary sources.
This is a low-profile individual. Consider whether a low-profile person would want a Wikipedia biography. SarahSV (talk) 03:01, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
