Kargil War[edit]

Hello, I agree it was one too many reverts, but please take a look at the issues before simply deciding to issue warnings. Mercenary wants to remove all references of Shariff and Bhutto's statements from the infobox stating that they are too high for his liking. Moreover while no official commission in Pakistan has even come forward with the losses, he wishes to solely portray Musharraf's statement in a hindi version of his memoirs as the official Pakistani figure. My contention is that memoirs - be it by the head of a state - doesn't have real validity, especially when it is being passed off as the state's official casualty figure. I have therefore wanted to include his and the other two leader's views under "pakistani estimates" rather than an official figure given by Pakistan state. Idleguy 07:47, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kargil Reverts[edit]

What I see in the Kargil War article is sheer bias against Pakistan and I am trying to correct that.

My personal beef is the casualty claims. I am removing Sharif and Bhutto's claims from there because they neither represent pakistan's official position nor do they have any authority to issue such figures. I havent deleted them from the article but just from the Casualty Box. Idleguy is continuing to insist that Nawaz, Bhutto and Musharraf belong on a level playing field where as Musharraf is the sole authority on Kargil as he exectued, planned and conducted the war and should know first hand how many he lost. I havent made the casualty numbers given by Musharraf as the sole source. There is an Indian estimates section which quotes Indian Generals on how many men Pakistan lost. But even they say no more than 1,000. But Bhutto and Sharif both say more than 3,000 to 4,000. Their casualty claims are unsubstantaited and do not belong the war box but are discussed in the article. To me this is like Napolean stating his losses on a battlefield and then having the exiled family of King Louis stating his own figures on losses in a battlefield. You surely include that in an article but not in the War Box.

My contention is that Musharraf is the head of Pakistan, Army and was the person who conducted Kargil and is the sole authority on the number of casualties Pakistan suffered in Kargil and as such when he stated that Pakistan lost 357 men then that should be Pakistan's position. Idleguy's continues to make an issue that those numbers were in a memoir. That is totally irrelevant. When the person who planned and executed Kargil states the casualty figures and he is also the head of the country then those figures become official.

Thats why I want Musharraf's casualty figures to be the official figures and the other two leaders figures can be discussed in the article.

Again, I am not deleted the claims by Bhutto or Sharif but removing them from the War Box.

I hope you rule fairly and quickly in this regard.

Re: Question[edit]

Hi! I don't know if having the template the way I did is really a good idea; but I figure you must have something better. My edits were based on the {{Seealso}} template. As far as I can see, [[:Portal:{{{portal_2}}}|{{{lportal_2|{{{portal_2}}}}}}]] is actually an unnecessary complication. You can very well write [[:Portal:{{{portal_2}}}|{{{portal_2}}}]] and achieve the same results. Since we are already checking whether the parameter "portal_2" exists or not, I think it is unnecessary to give a default value again. But still, you might want to try the village pump just in case.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 15:21, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Salman Khan[edit]

Hello, Ganesh,

I have a problem over at Salman Khan's article. User:LuckyS has been editing it. Besides adding fangush [1], and attempts to talk to him, he has gotten rude [2] and doesn't even allow to correct spelling mistakes [3]. However, he has deleted the caps [4]. I think there's still considerable fancruft in that article and both User:Zora and myself have been trying to revert it, but to no avail. Just have a look at the history. Maybe you could have a word with User:LuckyS? Best regards, --Plumcouch Talk2Me 18:46, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ganesh,

I have no problems with anyone contributing to the article, however Plumcouch's complaint is not the entire picture, if you have a look at the history of contributions by some editors in particular, they have portrayed actor Salman Khan in a very negative light, Both users Plumcouch and Zora have been deleting and modifying Key verifiable encyclopedic contents which alters the truth completely. Besides, they are experts at giving rude shocks to new editors and getting away with it. When they get back some of their own medicine, they summon someone else to look upon their plight.

Plumcouch's history of edits will reveal his reluctance to any addition for the actors career content or positive traits, he seems to be only more than happy to add negative slander.

They both insist of deleting the term- Blockbuster, Not only Hollywood but Indian Cinema has particularly defined the term and classifies All time Blockbusters as different from regular hit films. [5]

The term Blockbuster has a Wikipedia article on it as well.

They also try to declassify movies that have been recognised as top grossers. Terming them mere hits, defies the films true certified success.

About the actors Legal troubles, If you look at User Plumcouch's and Zora's history of contributions, they are the first ones to have started the Headings of Legal and Relationship Troubles, and the words they used almost implicate the actor even before proven Guilty or Innocent.

The matter is highly subjudice. And the most accurate news source should be used incase it is indeed legal in Wikipedia to quote/ opinionate on Court cases.

I have used the BBC's news source, instead of some rediff filmy article used earlier for inaccurate assumptions.

User Zora is keen to delete many verifiable facts, as well use a language which almost implicates the actor who has already been declared Not Guilty of Culpable Homicide. [6]

All this is highly unwarranted and tantamounts to vandalism or more. Legal action cannot be ruled out. Trial by Wiki editors should be avoided.

I, as a fellow user am willing to provide verifiable sources to prove my content and claims, In fact I have provided them in the article itself.

Try not to jump to conclusions and take sides with experienced editors who are fully capable of committing vandalism and mistakes as the usual suspects/new ones before looking at the origins of the complaint.

Please do not mistake my blunt statement of facts as rudeness, it is only a reaction to extreme slander. Which should be avoided in the first place.

Thanks. --LuckyS 23:21, 10 October 2006 (UTC)LuckyS[reply]

WP Indian Cinema move[edit]

Hi Ganeshk! I just wanted to ask you about the move of the WikiProject into a work group of WP India; I'm a little confused because (from my cursory glancings) it seems that there wasn't any discussion or consensus on the matter in either WP India or WP Indian Cinema. I was wondering if there's something that I missed regarding the matter. In any case, I also was thinking that maybe it would be more appropriate to be contained as a work group of WikiProject Films instead, much as the Indian military history task force is a subunit of WikiProject Military history. Of course it would still be associated with WP India as well! :) Before we go that far, however, I have brought this up for discussion at WP Films just to get a feel for opinions on the matter. I'd love to hear further from you on the subject and look forward to your comments! Many thanks, Girolamo Savonarola 19:56, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Content Blanking of Tamilnet[edit]

Hi, I wanted to bring this problem with user snowolf doing content blanking of stuff on Tamilnet. User snowolfd4 has come up ambiguous/mickey mouse reasons to remove relevant content from the Tamilnet article as he did for the Vellupillai Prabhakaran article (diff) [7] (his justification then: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Velupillai_Prabhakaran, after which he backed down following admin intervention ). We really need admin intervention.

Here is his justification for blanking parts of the Tamilnet article:

Sudharsansn the reasons are given in the edit summery. Thats not vandalism. Get your facts straight. Practically everything I removed is irrelevant to the context of the article. The international news organizations don't say sympathetic to LTTE website. Its plain pro LTTE website. That means they support the LTTE. Plain English. Not sympathetic. Support. And stuff like

David Jeyaraj a Canada based freelance journalist known for his neutral stance in the current Sri Lankan civil war had written that Karuna, was personally involved in the murder of famed journalist Taraki Sivaram

is just not encyclopedic and doesn't belon in WP. So again I'm removing irrelevant content and restoring my previous version. --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 04:16, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

He claims David Jeyaraj's statement (with reference) is unencylopedic, so he decides to remove it completely. He also insists on mentioning the LTTE with the list of countries banned in detail. Is the article about the LTTE or Tamilnet ? But he wants to include as much negative detail about the LTTE in order to highlight his POV. He also insists on saying the website supports the LTTE, which is legally vague. Material support, financial support, political support what does support mean ?? The best word as far as I see it is that it is sympathetic to the the LTTE. Furthermore he blanks many other factual statements, with relevant citations without even discussing it. Here is the diff (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tamilnet&diff=80561873&oldid=80558808) Elalan 05:37, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Telugu script[edit]

Hey Ganesh, Thanks for expressing your interest in contributing to telugu wiki. you are always welcome. "In కొత్త సభ్యులకు స్వాగతము, the "swa" I am used is written with "va" below the "sa"," yes in svAgatam va vattu is kind of subscript on the right side. If you are seeing as two different letters it might be a rendering problem. can you upload a screen shot if you can? Script is the same.. nothing much changed in the last 40 years or so. Most telugu wikipedians and bloggers are using this http://lekhini.org to contribute as of now and that's probably the easiest way. --Vyzasatya 18:06, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you are absolutely right. I have looked at the screenshot you posted. you are having display problems with telugu. what kind of system/font are you using..(are you using mac/firefox..my guess)? --Vyzasatya 18:37, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Difference in location values[edit]

While attempting to merge User:Ganeshbot/sandbox/Gudur and Gudur, I noticed that the location/longitude values are different. What do I do about them? Also, the location map of Gudur in User:Ganeshbot/sandbox/Gudur is wrong. The map says that it is somewhere near Hyderabad, whereas it is not so. Gudur is near the Tamilnadu border on the east coast. The Silent Contributor 09:21, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I looked into it. Fallingrain seems to be wrong. In these cases where you suspect the map is wrong, skip merging altitude, coordinates and geography section. The rest of data can be merged since the rest of the data is from Census. I fixed it for you. Also, look at this section that talks about a similar problem.
One more thing, for some places such as Kadiri, it is mentioned that it is a town, while User:Ganeshbot/sandbox/Kadiri mentions that it is a city. What should be done in such cases? The Silent Contributor 13:27, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Leave it as a town. - Ganeshk (talk) 19:32, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another issue. Can you please take a look at Kallur. As per its content, it seems to exist in both Karnataka and AP!!! However, Ganeshbot has not created an article on Kallur under Karnataka. The Silent Contributor 13:09, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gujarat complete[edit]

Hello Ganesh. I finally completed merging all the Gujarat not created articles. It was a tiring task, but worth it. I managed to clean-up quite a few articles in the process. I think merging this info should become a top priority task as plently of Indian city/town articles are in a bad shape, dumped with information, and have no references. I have not yet managed to clean up all gujarat articles as it takes up a lot of time.

Also, can you check out User:Ganeshbot/sandbox/Kalol and Kalol. Both the cities are different, but have the same co-ords according to ganeshbot. There may be a few other articles like these which have incorrect co-ords and hence are not in the right place in the map. Can you tell me how to get the correct co-ords? Regards, - Aksi_great (talk) 14:19, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Akash, Great job completing Gujarat! I have marked it complete. It was a great feeling when I completed Tamil Nadu ones. I agree, it is lot more than a simple merge. Cleanups, disambiguations, moves and all the stuff. Bot has a bug, when two towns have the same name, it updates the coords of the first town across the two. See this section that explains this problem. - Ganeshk (talk) 19:38, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is the other Kalol. I look at Nearby cities and towns section, do lot of digging to find out which coord belongs which town. I can't put what I do in words. :) Falling rain does not give you the district name. I use other google searches to confirm it. It is a pain. Sorry. :) - Ganeshk (talk) 19:46, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Bot account[edit]

Need ur ideas and contri for Indian Current Events[edit]

Hi Ganesh,

I'm in the process of managing the spruced up Indian Current Events Portal. I've did some work, yet, it is a long way to go. I'm looking for people who could contribute content and also update the related pages (vis-a-vis Sidebar, Calendar, Monthly Indian Current Event Archives). I'm working on the Indian current events portal based on the 'current events portal' format. As I've found you to be interested in contributing to Indian current events, I thought I'd first approach you. I'm thinking of creating a separate Wikiproject page for Indian Current Events, as I find it a mammoth exercise. In the long run, I'm looking at a FA for this portal.

Please give your ideas and ur contributions.

Template imperialism[edit]

Chadors are worn in Iran. The term chador or chaderi is also used in Afghanistan. I don't know why someone tagged this as Indian clothing, but that one tag meant that the bot claimed the article for India. I'm pissed off and I'm not even Iranian. I also don't think that we need to plaster the dang template on any articles relating to Indian cinema. Please stop the bot and revert the edits.

And the template is still too big. At present, so talk pages have so many templates showing that when you open the page, all you see is templates, no discussion. It's not just you, it's every template imperialist. Zora 04:44, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Assesment[edit]

Hi Ganesh,

I will surely do them now. I have been keeping track of the progress on the WikiProject, but didn't comment as I didn't have anything to say. As far as moving articles to PR is concerned, I think it would be better to let the primary contributor(s) do it themselves so that they can follow the feed-back. I have tried doing it with Buddhism, but was unable to guide the article as I was not conversant with the topic. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:10, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rameswaran editing[edit]

I thought to replace with it with a introductory statement which is better prepared, its OK to be there, Im not going to alter it, first I thought it didn't saved properly. But we may have to remove some lines from Hindu Holy City section, "According to the Puranas, upon the advice of Rishis (sages), Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana, installed and worshipped the Sivalinga here to expiate the sin of Brahmahatya (killing of a Brahmin) (Ravana was a Brahmin the great grandson of Brahma).[citation needed]" this whole statement is a repeatition, as was explained in the intro as well as Hindu Holy City section para 1, also it is an unreferenced statement which is likely to undermine the quality of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.136.24.38 (talkcontribs)

Erm ...[edit]

Hello, Ganesh, erm, thanks for the heads up concerning Thamizhan´s edit summary. I think things are getting out of control recently. ;) I have a question for you as an admin: Given the case that you make edits to an article, say, something like grammar, spelling or just shaky sentence structure and you get reverted - and in order to prevent an edit war or 3RR, you talk to the reverter in question and he doesn´t really react and the moment you make changes again, you get reverted again, what do you do? Wait 24 hours in order to prevent 3RR and make changes again in order to get reverted again? I have seriously problems with several editors you just cannot talk properly, because they don´t answer and if they do, it´s just nonsense. Not really something offending, but still nonsense. --Plumcouch Talk2Me 22:24, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ganesh,

Thamizan's edit summary proves a point, there is someone who thinks himself to be a superior force. He thinks his edits are admin based, while others answers are nothing but nonsense.

I used to reason with him and provide verifiable answers, (you can check my talk page) but he would still insist to his personal non verifiable ideas. Comes here and calls the other people (who reverted his deletions) nonsensical, who cannot talk properly. (This after providing him relevant linked/verifiable answers) He needs to prove his case- His edits in comparison to the contributions of other users in question. A thorough contributions check, will reveal the truth.

Is Wikipedia the domain of old users alone (particularly westerners) who delete the verifiable contributions of relatively new users, and define them as fangush and nonsense? --LuckyS 21:56, 19 October 2006 (UTC)LuckyS[reply]

Civility[edit]

Hi Ganeshk, there is a new kid, literally a kid, who is going beyond limits with scant respect for fellow editors and has gone overboard with his civility almost thrice inspite of friendly suggestions. Kindly intervene and warn him so as to avoid trivial conversations. He is dragging in things like how his parents brought him up, how we all should have been brought up, how he wants to honor the SL Army, how much of a pre-school kid 'I' am for all the good work I did on the VP page. I would pls ask you to interfere and issue him a strict civility warning and ask him to go through WP policies. The link is here and the user name is User:Iwazaki Thanks Sudharsansn 05:59, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pls go through this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Velupillai_Prabhakaran&diff=82998537&oldid=82954817
Here Iwazaki has framed up two entire sections of his own, literally without any citation at all. The citations he has pointed to refer to a newspaper article which he has read sometime ago and is not a piece of evidence which can be verified by everybody who would be reading that article. It is something like 'I-saw-that-in-news-once' kind of a link. A strong msg needs to be sent out to Iwazaki who is violating almost every single policy of Wikipedia, Civility, NPOV, Verifiability, etc...I kindly request you to step in and take some action to avoid blanking-out vandalism and reverting to uncited versions of the article which transitively refers to Vandalism. Pls go through my posts here to justify removal of the sections and how he has responded here
The user has also been issued a final warning for Civility but continues his spree of personal attacks and diplomatic vandalism. Check this Iwazaki Talk page
This seems to be going on for almost a month inspite of several friendly suggestions and also Admin warnings. Kindly help. Thanks Sudharsansn 14:04, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Known as the "Festival of Lights" in India, Diwali symbolises the victory of good over evil. It represents celebration of hope and life, and is an occasion to strengthen relationships. This year, it is celebrated on May 20, 2024. I take this as an occasion to wish you the best in the days to come. May this Diwali invigorate you, bringing you more happiness and content. Happy Diwali!!!

My RfA[edit]

Hello Ganesh! Thank you for the shiny new mop. I'll try to make the best use of it, and hope to live up to the confidence you have shown on my RfA. I'm still exploring the new tools, so please tell me of any mistakes I might make. Thanks again; and here's wishing you and your loved ones a happy Diwali!--thunderboltz(Deepu) 10:28, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Salman Khan (again)[edit]

Hello, Ganesh. First of all, happy Diwali! :) Hope you had a great festival with your friends and family. As for my reason writing to you: I followed your advice, went to Wikipedia:Third_opinion and a got a response here: [9]. Reaction was this: [10] and this [11]. Basically, the same thing as before. Also, I found this edit [12]. While I'm *really* trying to assume good faith, this edit looks suspiciously like a try to falisfy User:Flex's answer. I put the edits down to the rest of Lucky's answer in order to distinguish it from Flex's answer. I really tried to talk to Lucky, as seen on his talk page, but to no avail and I'm grateful for any further suggestions for this. Best regards, --Plumcouch Talk2Me 00:02, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
