Hinduism[edit]

Hi,

I didn't really consider my changes that "sweeping," given that they were mostly grammar-type corrections, and the deletion of two or three pretty POV adjectives. I'm sorry to have inappropriately replaced a couple of characters in a different font. They looked like normal characters to me. Could you tell me which of my changes replaced those characters?

Hbackman 01:32, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. On a quick skim, it looks like my edits were actually mostly concerned with things that Sir Arthur Wellington had changed. No need to go back and make them again, I think. Thanks for the heads-ups. :) Hbackman 23:02, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.[edit]

need for redirects[edit]

Hi.. saw the changes made to T R Baalu. Have not implemented the infobox on other articles yet because there is a copyright problem with the images taken from the GOI site. Also, I feel that things like spouse and children don't make much sense and don't add value to the article.

Can you also redirect the article H R Bharadwaj to Hansraj Bhardwaj as the latter is the correct name of the person. Similarly, A R Antule needs to be redirected to Abdul Rehman Antulay.

Hello, I found your name at wikiproject:hinduism, and was hoping you might join us at talk:human, where things have become rather unbalanced and unrepresentitive of humanity as a whole. Hope your interested, Sam Spade 16:29, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This and that[edit]

Hi Ganesh, I believe you are admin material - you are selfless and work in improving the project. I have liked the work you have done with infoboxes, templates and INCOTW. I would typically vote as well as nominate for such candidates (who would not?) on a RFA. However, there are some areas where you can improve - first and foremost is in the area of using edit summaries and Show preview button. btw, I gather that you are interested in history from a look mat this page - you may want to have a look at Rani Rudrama Devi. Also, you may want to request deletion of subpages such as Cinema Userbox if you are done with them. --Gurubrahma 19:49, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About Maruti Udyog foundation not incorporation[edit]

Maruti Udyog was founded in 1971... it was incorporated in 1981 as your source says:

1981
\*Maruti Udyog Ltd was incorporated under the provisions of the Indian Companies Act, 1956

The whole history section is negated if 1981 is taken as the foundation date.

hydkat 05:36, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About changing 'foundation' to 'incorporation': that would depend on how much importance a company gives to each of these events. I'm not sure which is more important: recognition as a company (incorporation) by government or formation date? Its like the difference between Independence day and Republic day! I'm also not sure if it was called Maruti Udyog back then...

Politics Wikiproject[edit]

I'd like to contribute to the project as much as I can. But, please don't count on very active contribution from me. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 05:39, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not much seems to have happened with Maruti Udyog[edit]

Hi, I guess the secondary aritcles are being built up. Can you give a brief outline on what all you'd like to have in the Maruti Udyog article... The history section finishes too abruptly... and I think we move some of the car descriptions to the main page (with special emphasis on what the company intended) We could also give the often conflicting relationship between suzuki and the government. Also I think we should include the reported incidences of labour unrest and the adoption of the japanese work environment in the 90s.(which was something unique back then) Alas all this requires material to go thru and regurgitate with copyvio here. tell me what you think...

hydkat 09:05, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sorry: I meant without copyvio :)

District naming conventions[edit]

Hi, I have been trying to standardize the templates used in for displaying districts and major cities for the states. I came across your edits in moving pages having District to district in some of them. As all the templates and some states have District, i am planning to move the rest to District. Is there a settled naming convention on this on the India page. Please leave me a message on my talk page. kaal 07:19, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Date preferences[edit]

Hello Ganesh,

I noticed that you changed "27 October" to "October 27" in Irfan Pathan. It's harmless, but I just wanted to let you know that you don't need to do that. If the date is linked, and you set your date preferences, then the date is converted to your own preferences, and they will both come out the same. That's why dates are always linked. You can read about this in the Manual of Style.

In fact the examples of birth dates on that page all have date followed by month, not the other way round. I think if there is a convention at all, it's to use month-day in articles about the U. S. and Canada, and day-month in articles about other parts of the world. But really no-one bothers about which they write, because whichever you write everyone will see the date in their own chosen format.

I hope that helps you avoid some work in future!

Stephen Turner (Talk) 09:51, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Names[edit]

Ganesh, re. Suresh Raina, I think the articles should be named after the popular name of the person. Did you find it written anywhere that the convention is to use the complete name ? Tintin (talk) 18:32, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Krishnamachari Srikkanth had been in existence long before I joined wikipedia but I guess it is okay since, while in the South we usually call him K.Srikkanth, elsewhere they use his full name or call him 'Kris Srikkanth'. The same for Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan. Looking at the history of R. P. Singh, I see that it was I who moved it to Rudra Pratap Singh. It was certainly unnecessary as R.P. is the more popular version. But to move this or Suresh Kumar Raina back we need an admin as I am not one.
But we have used initials for almost all Indian cricketers who are known by their initials - M. L. Jaisimha, C. D. Gopinath, W.V. Raman, C.K. Nayudu etc, unlike Cricinfo which goes for Motaganahalli Jaisimha and Coimbatarao Gopinath. Tintin (talk) 22:48, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Re RP Singh, I guess we can make R. P. Singh a disambig page and move Rudra Pratap Singh to R. P. Singh (cricketer). Tintin (talk) 00:12, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Politician images again[edit]

Hi Ganesh,

Sorry to bring this topic up again, but I found something interesting. See the templates Template:ParliamentofAustralia and Template:Canada-politician-photo. Can't we create something like this for Indian politicians. I feel that using images of politicians from the Lok Sabha site, though under copyright, would still constitute fair use. I am sure no polotician would object to his photo appearing in 1 more place! - Aksi great 06:55, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Templae Infobox cricket series[edit]

Hello Ganeshk, sorry for the disturbances in your work what you have done. But the previous template was looking unattracive. I did not know how to check which pages are associated with a particular template. So i was unable to update the process. Do you know how to check. Please send me where have you used this template before. Thanks -- Shyam (T/C) 09:03, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Really sorry Ganeshk, I felt that i can contribute to look pretty good to this template. So i did. If you want me to retain what was it before, I can do it. Thanks -- Shyam (T/C) 09:24, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

INCOTW[edit]

Hi, great to see you updating INCOTW despite being on a wikibreak. We reached a kind of consensus on INCOTW to limit the number of nominations to six - I've updated the page previously to reflect that. Relevant messages can be found on the talkpage as well. --Gurubrahma 04:18, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am wishing you a happy Holi, the unique Hindu celebration of color and brotherhood among all members of the humanity. The festival falls on 15th March 2006. I have collected A Gift Pack of Quotations for you contained in the sections Do things Differently & Something More , which are part of the on-going discussion pertaining to my nomination of Idleguy for adminship. You are aware of the tradition that if you throw colored water on flames of burning Holika, you enable a Prahlad to emerge from the flames!!! I again convey Holi greetings to you and your family!!! --Bhadani 15:02, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Back!![edit]

Hi, great to know that you are back. I am completely with you about your ideas about adminship. June sounds good. I guess you already had a look at my standards. Other pages you may find of some interest apart from WP:RFA (which should be on your watchlist) are WP:GRFA, WP:ANOT and admin-related sub-pages of User:Durin (Durin's pages are really good resources). You may also want to look at some successful and unsuccessful nominations in some detail. My RfA is here. And btw, Bhadani is back. --Gurubrahma 03:26, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sankat mochan temple[edit]

Sankat mochan hanuman is part of name of Lord Hanumaan, and there would be millions of temples in India with this name. I think, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple article is completely unnecessary and with no potential for development either.

I admit that temple was associated with blast but in current state article doesn't provide any new inoformation not contained in the article for blast. If you think that historical aspects of temple can be elaborated upon, article can be kept, otherwise it is useless stub in my view. BBC article informs of Tulsidas's association with the temple but doesn't delve into much history either. Lastly, if article is kept, given that it can be enhanced, I would strongly urge to change the title to inclue Varanasi in it, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, Varanasi.
Thanks for the tip. Good luck editing. AshishG (talk · contribs)
