Information icon Hello, Gary Hutchinson. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Lucy Hutchinson (actress), you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Are you also editing with another account Gary Hutch? Theroadislong (talk) 13:38, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gary, we spoke previously when you were using the account Garyhutch (talk · contribs). I'm sorry you've had a negative experience with another user; are you happy with the article as it now stands? It seems to have your preferred picture- am I right in believing that you took it, and therefore own the copyright? That's something that Wikipedia as a whole gets very concerned about. Is there any information you feel should be included in the article which is not already? Feel free to contact me on my talk page if I can be of any help. J Milburn (talk) 17:50, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok- I've added back the YouTube links (I've seen the Kindle advert a lot, as it happens!)- there are a labyrinth of policies about when external links are OK and when they aren't, but I don't think there's any problem with these ones. Concerning Inside Number 9, there sadly doesn't seem to be a "reliable source" for her appearance, yet; IMDB and the various other bits on Google sadly don't count. We could perhaps add it with a "citation needed" tag, but it may be removed- the other thing to do is just to wait until more press about the programme comes out which will mention Lucy's role. As for your interactions with the other user; I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience. I certainly think the other user meant no harm, but I understand how hostile an environment Wikipedia can be. In any case, he's said he's happy to desist from editing the article, so hopefully there won't be any further problems. J Milburn (talk) 09:03, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

COI[edit]

Hi Gary Hutchinson, I see you're obviously related to Lucy Hutchinson - As a rule no one should edit articles they're related too - Continuing to do so could see you blocked
To be fair you're not being a total arse and constantly editing the article like some do here so I think reporting you in this case would be pointless but you should knock it off as someone who isn't as nice as me will end up reporting you and we don't want that!
If you want stuff added to the article you really need to use the talkpage (You could always use {{Help me}} so your post/addition is seen quickly),
Anyway thanks & Happy editing :) –Davey2010Talk 13:45, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Davey2010:, Thanks for that, I usually ask J Milburn to do the updates. All I've actually done today is update a 2 year old photograph, no opinions, no information just a photo!! Lol, I do understand the rules and I always have avoided putting any personal opinions on the page for the exact reasons that you're talking about?
Thanks for telling me about the talk page but which talk page?? Where, what and who's? I have another radio production that needs putting on Lu's page but I don't know where to put the information or who to ask? I have no real idea how this Wiki stuff really works? Do I make the request on Lucy's read page? How would I go about requesting the photo to be updated? Sorry but I really don't understand any of this!
Hi Gary, I've really confused you haven't I , Right basically COI isn't really allowed here (Wether you're adding info or just an image it's still not allowed), Sorry I meant the Lucy Hutchinson talkpage , Would've helped if I put that the first time round lol,
Basically the norm for COI editors is that they post on the articles talkpage what they want added or changed and someone will come along and review it and either accept and add it or decline it,
Ignore the help me template - If you copy this - {{request edit/request}} and paste it on the articles talkpage and then put your information below someone will see it,
I hope I'm not confusing you too much lol, –Davey2010Talk 14:38, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Davey2010: Yeah, right OK!! (I don't even know what COI is??) I've got the info on the talk page bit, I will do that in future as I am trying to respect the Wikipedia rules. I did email the jpeg image in and put my copyright on it and my release consent, I'm hoping that'll be good to get it done? If not, can you reinstate the image as an unaffiliated editor? What happens with un-referenced edits? She recorded a new Radio comedy at the beginning of August and we know where and when it's going to be broadcast but there is no defined proof of that has been published yet, no references. How would that get dealt with? Sorry, too many questions! Gary Hutchinson (talk) 14:51, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

COI stands for Conflict of Interest :), I've forgotten to amend the image but it can't be used as it is - It needs to be like the old one if possible ?, Usually un-referenced edits get reverted but if you're struggling I could add the refs for you, Ah well in that case it's best to add the radio stuff once sources come up, It's cool everyone's confused when they first come here, Although if you stay here for 3 years and become a fully fledged editor it's all a piece of cake really . –Davey2010Talk 14:59, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Davey2010: Ok, I'm getting most of this. Photo: not sure what's wrong with it? If you look at the management page http://www.ajmanagement.co.uk/index.php/actor/lucy-hutchinson is the main photo more acceptable? Ta. Gary Hutchinson (talk) 15:27, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Photo's should be straight(ish), Yup that photo looks perfect but if you're gonna upload I think you need to go through OTRS at Commons (I can't help with that I'm afraid as only OTRS-Admins can access that stuff - I don't think even the normal admins at commons can access it, Anyway if you do it through OTRS it means it won't and can't get deleted ) Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 15:36, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
