If you speak Slovene, you could help improve the article on here on Slovenska Wikipedija. I looked for it on Slovak Wikipedia, which can be accessed here, but couldn't find an article there. I know little about the differences between the two languages. South Slavic Continuum Map

Hey man!!!

Great map, by the way!!! Since there is currently a dispute on the talk page of Eastern South Slavic, would you kindly follow it until a compromise is reached and would you adjust the map correspondingly? Hey man! I haven't heard from you for quite a bit, so I thinking if you do not feel like working on the map again, can I ask somebody else to finish it? We will naturally give you all the copyright, because you deserve it. In this connection, do you have a copy of the map without inscriptions? And if so, could you send it to me? My friend is definitely not on your level and can't deal with it. If not, I can possibly pay a professional, but I'd really rather exhaust all other options first:). @VMORO: I have just uploaded a new version of the file. I have separated Bulgarian and Macedonian and corrected the extent in Greece. If you want to continue it yourself, I can send you the original .ai file or upload a new version without names. Otherwise, I will continue to correct the border in Albania and Turkey according to this map. Sorry I haven't replied, I have been busy as I had a lot of tests for the past month or so. In this case, I owe you an apology, just keep doing whatever you're doing. I haven't been particularly active on Wikipedia myself and I have missed that. My friend said that he could only mutilate the map anyway, so it is indeed better that you finish it yourself, however long it takes. As long as the problematic moments (for the Macedonians) are fixed, I think this map has the potential of staying on Wikipedia for decades to come (which would be quite the amazing achievement, I would say). I will just repeat a couple of things you are already probably familiar with, but I'd like them to be in one place so that they are easy to refer to:

a) The Macedonians want their dialects to be divided into south/east/west/north, as per their own classification.

b) Similarly, in my opinion, there doesn't need to be a distinction between Central Balkan and Subbalkan, the differences are much smaller than those in individual Western dialects.

c) The splotch in North Dobrudja is no more - all Bulgarians there were exchanged with Romanians in 1940

d) However, there continue to be Bulgarian-speaking communities in Wallachia (19th century refugees), you can see a map here (http://www.corpusbdr.info/?goto=dialects) with explanation of typology. Most of them are Northwestern Bulgarian, the yellow ones are Balkan, red are Moesian, brown are Pavlikjan. But only if you can/are willing to do it. I imagine it would take a while.

e) The dialects spoken in Bessarabia are a mixture of Moesian, Central Balkan and Subbalkan (merging Central Balkan and Subbalkan into one will help here).

g) (Something new I guess): Have you thought about marking the borders between major groups of dialects with a thicker brush? Here I mean Slovenian, Kajkavian, Chakavian, Shtokavian, Torlak (including the varieties in NM and Bul) and Bulgaro-Macedonian?

h) The same thing but about yat reflexes: yakavian (eastern Bul), ekavian (Western Bul, Macedonian, Torlak, Eastern Serbian), jekavian and ikavian?

I will stop here before you tell me to piss off😁. Think about the last couple of things. My only consideration here is the longevity and accuracy of the map. I am indeed not exaggerating when I am saying that it could potentially become a mainstay in Wikipedia (and why not in general). Hello again! Would you be open to drawing a map of Bulgarian dialects, using what you have already done for the South Slavic dialect continuum, and if so, how much would you charge? I'll be paying this out of pocket, so keep this in mind:) VMORO 10:33, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

@VMORO: How precise does the map actually need to be? And also, I am not a professional cartographer. I have made the previous map on Adobe Illustrator by overlaying and tracing existing maps. And regarding the pricing, I will either do it for free or not do it at all, depending on what exactly is needed. Write back if you are still interested. Thanks for getting back to me:). Cartographer or not, the quality is great, and I like the visual style. A LOT. As regards scope: Pretty much the same as the other map, i.e., major dialectal groups rather than individual dialects, so you will probably be able to recycle most of your previous work. However, colours will have to be changed to fit the colour scheme of the existing atlases (i.e., bright red for a group that most closely approximates Old Bulgarian (in this case, the Rhodopean dialects), related colours for other Eastern dialect groups, and cold colours (blue) for the more distant Western Bulgarian ones.

I would also prefer the Turkish speaking areas to be greyed out - however, here I mean a rough outline, NO exact drawing, and for ONLY the two larger areas in the North and one in the South. NO marking of individual smaller islands. If it would be easier, it can also be done in the form of diagonal grey strips/bars.

Also I would rather that there were a border that included Macedonian and Torlak dialects, reflecting their pre-1913 classification by international Slavistics as Bulgarian. If there is dialect group differentiation here, colours need to be extremely drab. Or perhaps no dialect group differentiation if it's too much of a hassle.

Also, another border that includes the Bulgarian dialects in Greece, Turkey and Romanian North Dobrudzha that used to be spoken before 20th century population exchange treaties. No differentiation is necessary, they can all together be coloured in a very light, drab colour. Perhaps the only line that should be visible is the current yat boundary. Again, NO detailed drawings, no small islands, etc. - a rough outline only.

Come to think of it, the same method of procedure should be applied to the formerly Bulgarian Macedonian and Torlak dialects, only the colour (while equally drab) should be different than the other one.

What do you think? I reckon this could be the best Bulgarian dialectal map to have ever been made, as what usually tends to be done is either something supernationalistic, where Bulgarian is spoken almost at Belgrade, or maps limited to Bulgarian territory only, which are very uninstructive considering the extent of population movement on the Eastern Balkans.
