AfD one minute after creation

It's actually pretty routine, when someone creates an article like that. Somebody wants a listing for a take-out Chinese place. It's pretty obvious that the article doesn't belong. Actually, this one's so obvious it could have been nominated for speedy deletion, and deleted without discussion. Fan1967 15:45, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Just to add to what Fan1967 said, the nominator (User:Travelbird) was undoubtedly on recent changes patrol. Travelbird saw the page as soon as it was created, saw that it wasn't appropriate for Wikipedia, and nominated it for deletion immediately. —Caesura(t) 17:51, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
I do the same thing, watching for inappropriate new articles or vandalism of existing articles. I tagged an article this morning for a gaming forum. I saw the article created, did some quick checks on the website, and tagged it within a few minutes of its creation. Fan1967 18:49, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the list of localities in Iran! --(Aytakin) | Talk 17:54, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Copyrights

I'll have to admit this is a deep and mysterious subject, like nuclear physics, that I understand poorly. You'll need to follow up with whoever tagged your submission. I don't understand where the rules apply, either. Fan1967 18:47, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Listing a lot of AfDs

Good work listing a lot of articles for deletion. Where do you find all these inappropriate articles? I'll tag any you list for speedy deletion if they meet it.--Andeh 08:24, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

I've been meaning to, chip a little off of J.D. Byrider for a bit, and add some.... I took out a lot of the stuff I think sounds ad-like... I'm going to remove the advert tags, and stub it, lemme know (and revert) if you don't agree... --негіднийлють (Reply|Spam Me!*|RfS) 21:28, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

I have edited the article to relfect notability, please take another look. PT (s-s-s-s) 21:23, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: Benefiber article

I can't tell what the heck is going on with that! I have to laugh -- all these feverish Benefiber supporters. Will Dr. Scholl's bunion pads be next? I've hear of them too, so shouldn't Dr. Scholl's have an article? Thanks for being conscientious. My experience though, is that when these types of rah-rah voters get going, they don't even notice a little thing like protocol.

Take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kent-Meridian High School -- big faux pas for me. I didn't know high schools were sacred at the time. (I was new here.} I'm still being pressured to do an rfc on RJHall for his spamming and stirring that up. The good part these types of incidents is that there are a lot of good people like you I get to meet. That makes it worth it. So Thank you! KarenAnn 23:54, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Wait a minute. What's going on? I just looked at the nomination again. Didn't I have a comment on that nomination? Or maybe even do the nominating? (I can't remember -- but whatever I did is gone now, even though someone references it further down.) KarenAnn 00:07, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Wow! Now I see by going back through all the histories. Isn't that immoral or something? I can't believe someone would do that at all, but especially over Benifiber. Thank you again. KarenAnn 00:19, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Blaming the Victims/Chapter 4

Hello, I´ve given my reason here: Talk:Blaming the Victims/Chapter 4. I´m sorry if I have done anything wrong, but I can assure you I have not copied it from some commersial web-site. (It took me literally hours to write it back in March/April for User:Huldra\Newstuff) Regards, Huldra 19:15, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Please see my second note on the talk-page. Also: I am not familiar with the procedure here; I have given my reason; am I now supposed to remove the "hagon" label? Regards, Huldra 20:12, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Uwharria

Woops, that's very strange, it's almost clockwork for me to delete articles, don't know what happened there. Good snag, thanks for the tip. --Deathphoenix ʕ 21:42, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

Regarding the article Altruistic travel, which you tagged for speedy deletion with the reason "This article was created in the last 48 hours and all of its revisions are blatant copyright infringements, taken from the website of a commercial content provider (http://www.philanthropictravel.org/about_philanthropic_travel.htm), with no assertion of permission. A commercial content provider is an entity directly engaged in making money from the content", I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This article does not qualify for speedy deletion because a .org website is not generally a commercial content provider. If you still want the article to be deleted, please use the WP:CP process. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 23:27, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Uncivil archive

I noticed you have a page listing all your "not-so-nice" messages, why don't you make a list of talk messages that you liked a lot, too? :) Always gotta look on the bright side!--Andeh 00:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

No I didn't see any mediation request, I saw just the page on RC patrol and decided to poke my nose in.--Andeh 00:26, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Please notice it is not the same article that was speedy deleted. It was later brought to our knowledge that an article that complies with WP policies on the subject exists (although it may need some work, it is still a lot better than the speedied one), and the title was redirected to this existing entry. If you have any doubts, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you! Regards, Phaedriel The Wiki Soundtrack! - 20:15, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Medcab case

Hi, given that you've both agreed to mediation, I'm wondering if you'd prefer to do email-based mediation or some other means. Please drop me a note stating your preferences, and we'll get started. Thanks. --Improv 01:26, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I just had a look at your user pages and I thought you should know that I've decided to come out of the closet — as a deletionist.

Anyway, the reason I didn't speedy the Studystorm article in the first place was that not all of the text was copied from their website; as far as I could tell, it was just the first bit. The rest of it looked suspicious but I couldn't pin it down. I know there's a Wiki essay about ignoring the rules when something's bound to be deleted anyway... can't recall what it is. But if the speedy tag is removed by somebody else, that's probably why.

Regards, ... discospinster talk 22:00, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the Headstart wikipage

I don't want to be added to the uncivil comment board, so I'll try my best to discuss this with you:

I can understand deleting a band with no musical credentials, like the Article I did on the 207 Mafia, the street gang/"rap group" in my hometown. But Headstart! is well known in the musical scene in Portland, and to delete this wiki because "Their labels aren't well known." is just silliness.

I suggest keeping the article.

Gay_Cdn, If I am able to find either of the albums for sale on amazon.com or somewhere else online, will you get rid of the speedy deletion offer?

Re : Closing AfD and removal of the category template

Got it, thanks for notifying. - Mailer Diablo 13:03, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know too :-). —Mets501 (talk) 02:20, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

I have noticed when you closed the above AfD, you did not remove the category template, "REMOVE THIS TEMPLATE WHEN CLOSING THIS AfD". By deleting this when closing it pulls the discussion out of the category. I have deleted it from this discussion, but if you could review any other closures you have done recently and remove the tag from them it would be greatly appreicated. Thanks.--Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 11:03, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

I have actually removed the template from a number of other closed AfDs that I was also monitoring; I am sure there are still others. Thanks.--Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 11:09, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Your comments are not clear to me. Can you refer to the part of the process on Wikipedia:Deletion process that I am missing out, please? (aeropagitica) 12:20, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

I have now seen and understand. Thanks for the information. (aeropagitica) 12:33, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

AfD

Thank you for letting me know, must have missed seeing that template. I agree with the comments above that Wikipedia:Deletion process needs to be updated to make this clear. Catchpole 08:32, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

On the same subject: ya, seriously. The template won't even show up if you click the edit link on the main afd page, since it's ABOVE the individual header. The only way to actually see it if you first open the discussion page and then click on the edit this page tab at the top, which until now hasn't made any difference. If people plan on using that, please make it clear that it's much better to include right below the header, thanks. And I've never heard of this before, so thanks for letting me know. - Bobet 15:04, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

AFD tags

Thanks for letting me know about the tags. I've checked and removed a few that I'd forgotten. It's been a while since I last did the AFD rounds, sorry. :) —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 15:15, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Removing "remove the template message"

I think I got all of them. They're a relatively new development so I didn't notice them. Thanks for the heads up. ColourBurst 15:32, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

  • I see I'm not the only one? When did this kick in and why are discussions recategorized after closure? - Mgm|(talk) 15:34, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
That's what I want to know... The Land 20:05, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

AfD categorization template

I'm responding to the note you left on my talk page, and as I can see from above several other admins have questions similar to mine. As I understand it, we now put categorization templates on AfDs, and it is my reponsibility as a closing admin to remove them. This is fine, but I have a few comments:

  • Could you tell me where this has been discussed, and where the details of the implementation of this are? The reason I ask is that at this particular point in time, the system exhibits what I would characterize as "strange behaviour", if not "broken behaviour". For example, if I go to a page like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2006 September 3, there are a list of AfD nominations, next to each one is an "edit" button. If I click "edit" (or, in my case, drag the edit link into a different tab on my browser), this notice does not show up. To see this notice, I need to click on "project page", and then "edit page" again, and then the notice shows up. Surely there is a way to implement this so that I don't have these problems. In any case, I have not seen centralized discussion on this, and I just went through WT:AFD and a couple of archives, and unless I'm being particularly blind I don't see any notice of this and any idea of where I could go to describe problems I'm having with the implementation. In fact, I don't even know which template is adding this to the project subpages in the first place... {{afd1}}, {{afd2}}, or what?
  • This should be mentioned on WP:DPR as part of the closing process, and as far as I can tell it is not. A new admin should have the expectation of reading the instructions on WP:DPR, following them literally, and then having the AfD closed properly. Right now, this expectation will not be realized in some cases.
  • All in all, sorry for leaving all of this discussion on your talk page, most of the above would be appropriate to some WT page, but I'm not sure which one. Moreover, I think this is in principle a great idea given the number of XfDs a day and in the long run will generate more input from users in good standing, which is always good. However, I would like to have more detail of what I need to do, as a closing admin, to make this system work. Thanks! --- Deville (Talk) 16:33, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
It is at WP:DPR if you read through it all carefully.--Andeh 16:48, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
After reading through it more carefully, I agree, it does mention the category. However, I had to read that about five times, and I was looking for it. The way it's worded now, the instructions seem to imply that the category is something to be removed from the article, not from the AfD page. Thanks! -- Deville (Talk) 17:39, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
For the record, I've restated a lot of the above at WT:AFDC to see if anyone has ideas on how to fix this. -- Deville (Talk) 18:14, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for bring this to my attention, I (amongst many others I see) were not fully aware of the new changes. It is good of you to remind everyone of this, and I shall check any AfDs I've closed to make sure the category is removed. Keep up the good work, as you are quite the deletionist yourself ;) (I remember you from AfD before!), could I suggest you make your list of nominations public like I've done here? Up to you of course. :)--Andeh 16:35, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Do you want me to format it like mine? I do it using macro's instead of by hand (which would take forever).--Andeh 21:39, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
There appears to be some missing the list only has nominations from L to Z, I don't think that's by coincidence either. Just paste the entire list from your watchlist, I'll do the rest.--Andeh 22:06, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Try Special:Watchlist/edit. Scroll down.--Andeh 22:19, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
My mistake about L - Z, If you think you missed some, repaste the huge list from your watchlist.--Andeh 22:23, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
No idea to be honest, couldn't find a way to fix it either. Guess you'll just have to type it in manually.--Andeh 15:46, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
You don't mind if I add that I assisted you in making it at the bottom do you? Just encase any other users want to do the same.--Andeh 16:56, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

What are you talking about? I did remove it from the category. alphaChimp(talk) 17:13, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

No need to apologize. I'm just glad I didn't do anything wrong. alphaChimp(talk) 18:53, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I don't know how I could've missed that; the auto-AfD closer script must be making me a bit lazy. ;) Thanks again, Sango123 19:09, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

  • I'm not sure if it has been widely announced already, but if you haven't, it's probably a good idea to mention it on the administrator's noticeboard or get a signpost article written about it, so you more people know (and you need to correct less of them). - Mgm|(talk) 19:22, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

AfD

Yes, it must be a recent change - first I'd heard of it! Someone should update Wikipedia:Deletion_process#Articles_for_Deletion_page to reflect this. The Land 20:04, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Oh yes, if don't mind, could you add the cat just after the header of the AfD (instead of the top)? This is to faciliate easier processing of the category while closing the AfD. - Mailer Diablo 03:48, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

AfD categories

Hi. I agree that you need to send a message to admins reminding us to remove these category templates, perhaps by updating Deletion_process or something similar. (in fact, I think it would be more elegant if the category included old AfDs, but anyway...). - Richardcavell 22:51, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Re: speedy tag on Talk:Imre Kertész

Gay Cdn wrote:

I am not sure what happened. I got to the article page via a list of wikify tagged articles. When I arrived, there was nothing on the page, but then I saw the talk page full of info and thought it got missed in a deletion process somewhere. I followed the link you provided in your edit and it came back to the same missing article page as before. I had to use the purge feature on the page and the text came up. I have never had that happen before. Thanks.--Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 22:04, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

No problem. What probably happened is your browser had cached a blank version of the page at some earlier time, and then kept showing the cached version even though a newer version existed. Purging often fixes this (as you discovered), you can also try pressing CTRL + F5 to clear the cached version and refresh the page – Gurch 22:19, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Very nice :). I fixed it up a little. I don't want to judge on the quality too much as I don't know of the foundation before hand. Keep up the good work.--Andeh 11:10, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
