Orphaned picture[edit]

Hey there,

Cheers for bringing the orphan picture Image:Chris Philpot.jpg to my attention - I've now nominated this for deletion as suggested.

Regards, CountdownCrispy ( ? 21:00, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Skyring Pix[edit]

I see you've been tidying up. All the images I uploaded originally were included in articles. But if the process of subsequent editing either results in better images being included or the article no longer requiring them - and some articles are very image-heavy - I have no problems. Good to see wikignomes at work tidying up the loose ends! --Pete 02:59, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images for deletion[edit]

Hey, another Torontonian! Anywho, to my point. I noticed you put a bunch of images up for deletion, which is great. Considering they're orphaned, it'd probably be faster and avoid unnecessary bureaucracy to just tag them with {{subst:orfud}}. Unless of course I'm missing something. Cheers! --Brad Beattie (talk) 13:46, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah! Understood. A slight confusion between fair use and GFDL'd images. My bad. --Brad Beattie (talk) 14:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About my "orphans"[edit]

Dear Gay Cdn, thank you so much for warning me about the pending picture deletions. I've just inserted all the pictures that were pending in various articles, so the rest can be deleted and re-uploaded when it's time to use them. To be honest, I wasn't too familiar with the image policy in regards to sandbox pictures. Blush, blush. Thanks for letting me know. Is the commons like a picture archive for English Wikipedia, where pictures can be parked until you are ready to use them? Best wishes, Pia 06:31, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for explaining about Wikipedia Commons. All the best, Pia 02:50, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IFD processing question[edit]

I think all the images in Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2006 October 28 have been addressed, but I'm unsure of how to archive that page properly. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 20:35, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK thanks. Going forward, do you want me to just notify you (or post a note) when a day's worth is done, or just remove the listing myself? I would of course check to make sure the noms are archived. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 20:52, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • None taken. I am a new admin, so I just wanted to make sure I was not disrupting the flow of things. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 22:10, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About my other Wikipedia pages[edit]

I suppose I had no idea. I had seen people create other pages on Wikipedia and I thought mine would be fine. Um, I'd rather you not nominate the pages for deletion because I don't want to see them discussed by other Wikipedia editors. Having been on Wikipedia long enough, I know that some people can become quite snooty, etc. I don't want to hear what others would say about the pages. I suppose Wikipedia is a bit confusing sometimes because there are so many rules. I was under the impression that we could include anything we wanted about ourselves on our own pages, and I was under the impression that we could create extension pages of our own pages. Oh well.

Anyway, please don't nominate them for deletion. Give me two days to get all of my stuff off of those pages, and, then if you are an administrator, you can just delete them yourself, okay? I really don't want to see this go to a "community debate" because, as you can see, I put a lot of personal stuff on those pages, and it would be creepy to see a community debate over my personal stuff; I can imagine the things they'd say. There is a general rule on Wikipedia to "assume good faith," but unfortunately I have seen a lot of the opposite. If what I have done is in violation of a Wikipedia policy, it was completely by being unaware of what is and what isn't allowed; my mistakes were "in good faith." (It sometimes seems that the rules of Wikipedia are more extensive than the encyclopedia itself.)

Thanks,

Andrew Parodi 22:56, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for assuming good faith with me. And thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into what you suggested. Andrew Parodi 08:20, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Olympics logos[edit]

Hi there. I uploaded them because I was starting to make the sports sub-pages for the 2008 Olympics and figured it'd save time and effort to just upload all of the images now, so they'd all look the same. Well I never got around to doing all of them and I guess I just forgot about the images. I don't think that they're doing any harm just being "there" until the pages are created, but if you feel that I should put them in use, I could start up again making stubs for each article with the picture in each one. I wouldn't mind, I guess, but I am kind of busy right now, so it wouldn't be immediate.

I just don't see what it hurts keeping them "orphaned." Maybe I can just display them on one of my sub-pages or something, saying: "For use on the 2008 Olympics sports sub-pages." That seems easier. For now, at least. Anyway, thanks for bringing it up to my attention. Give me a response, when you can. JARED(t)  23:16, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:George Bush & Manmohan Singh On India Today Cover.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:George Bush & Manmohan Singh On India Today Cover.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 01:41, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thank you for your message. I thought to use the image somewhere. However, it seems that right now it is not possible. As such, I request you to kindly delete the image for the time being, if required I will upload the same again. Regards. --Bhadani 14:16, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Bond WP 5 800x600.jpg)[edit]

Hi - don't know if you require a response to this, but if the Bond pages are no longer using that image, then it can certainly be deleted. The thinking was that promotional posters for individual characters would work under fair use, but I'm not sure whether that was correct... Orphaned fair use image (Image:States of the Ether by MishinAM.JPG/gif)[edit]

Thank you for your alert. As unfortunatly no one seems to want to hear anything about the 'heresy' of the aether, and even less theoretical explanations (such as the image above) I guess you can delete them. Thank you once more, Regards. --Viriathus 02:52, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi... sorry to bother you, but there's been an RfC filed against me, and I'd like to see your thoughts on the matter there (on one side or the other). Thanks! —Chowbok 20:58, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DeBarra Mayo[edit]

Hi Gay, I am not sure how to change the copyright status to the DeBarra Mayo photo. DeBarra owns the rights to the photo. Photographer is Ed Burnik. Date of photo, 1987. The photo was not taken from a website, although other websites have used this photo along with articles written by DeBarra Mayo. The photo should be tagged as released to public domain. Can you assist? KarateLadyKarateLady 03:02, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Chevaline deployment sequence[edit]

I wasn't aware that that deletion was considered vandalism. Apologies. However, you should be aware of the context. The deletion notice was one of many being added to images uploaded by me that were falsely labelled as Fair Use images for deletion as part of a systematic campaign of harrassment. In fact that image was drawn by me, and when uploaded was clearly tagged as my drawing, with a free licence for anyone to use for any purpose. Its not the only one of my drawings to be misrepresented in this way by the same contributor, and it cannot have been an accident. See User talk:Notinasnaid "as an aside". I have indeed been in contact with the academic authorities at the University of Gottingen, from where I suspect that contributor has been using university property, equipment and IP addresses to harrass. The university there will determine from their user logs whether disciplinary action can be taken. One thing he can be certain of though, I am not going to be bullied and roll-over. Metuchen-Edison YMCA Swim Team[edit]

I believe the "policy" you cited has not become poilcy yet; it is still only a proposal, so this is not grounds for deletion. Also, I used the team's official site as a reference, and included the link at the bottom. I am a member of this team and have been for 7 years. I believe this is credibility enough, besides the fact that the WP:ORG proposal has not been adopted as policy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rickyprego (talkcontribs) 02:26, 13 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Yes, I did forget that step. While I was doing others, I remembered, but then forgot again. But I'm confused, the pages says on some that you notified them.
