The article there is and was a hoax (it initially fooled me the first time around), and I nominated it for speedy deletion because I'm concerned it could slip back into mainspace without people noticing. The deletion discussion focuses around the fact that it couldn't actually be legitimately rewritten on this topic. The user is trying to get attention for his website by hoaxing Wikipedia users, we shouldn't be holding out the promise that he'll find a platform here, and I'd appreciate if you reconsidered that speedy deletion. 01:35, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Bull of Heaven

Recently you reverted a user's vandalism of Bull of Heaven's page, specifically their genre list. You managed to limit the number of genres to the original, vandalized, truncated list. Bull of Heaven have released more music than any band in history, literally millions of pieces, and many of the genres you deleted are well-established as legitimate examples of the types of music the band (and their hundreds of contributors) have been making for seven years, according to plenty of music classification websites such as Discogs, RateYourMusic, last.fm, etc. Your reversion to the vandal's alteration is tantamount to complicity. Many of the other genres are mentioned in reviews of the band's body of work, as well as interviews, radio commentary, etc. It's difficult to imagine that a band that releases a near-infinite amount of music would be responsible for so few genres, when they have released everything from progressive rock to highly mathematical prime number-based music to hip hop to contemporary classical to field recordings to avant-garde jazz and many, many more. But this band is notorious and has more haters than practically any independent band in existence, so their article has been vandalized repeatedly from the very beginning and at one time had page protection. It would be appreciated if you could restore their accurate genre list, as there are no rules (as far as I am aware) delimiting the number of genres a performance artist may have on Wikipedia; especially, as is the case here, when the genres are perfectly accurate and unobjectionable. At the moment, for instance, "doom metal" is listed as one of their genres, and they have released quite a bit more jazz, progressive rock, and jazz fusion. If you'd like examples, I'll be more than happy to forward you some links. You seem like a reasonable person, so hopefully this issue can be resolved without incident. I left you a note on your personal Wiki page to let you know what the problem is. You reverted my changes, which were deletions made by a vandal. Bull of Heaven are well-known for having one of the most diverse outputs in history, as well as indisputably creating more music than any other musical act, having released literally tens of millions of works, equaling a near-incalculable number of years. Funny thing is, many of the genres now listed are not even primary genres. They have far more progressive rock and jazz pieces than drone doom and the like. I recommend reverting to this version (Revision as of 06:46, 11 January 2015), before the vandal swept in and deleted all the relevant genres. The vandal, incidentally, is 2601:8:9901:9243:7D73:C209:D275:B5AD. Most of the deleted genres had been highlighted with respect to Bull of Heaven's music in articles pertinent to the band well before they were added to Wikipedia. In 2014 alone, they were mentioned as having played jazz shows in St. Louis and Chicago. This band has many online haters, and that is precisely why these people refuse to leave the article alone. Their genre list is exorbitant, indeed, but they are by far the most varied band I have ever heard of. Hi there. The issue is that consensus for info boxes (the box top right of the page) is to be a summary, it shouldn't go into a huge long list. When the list gets as long as that one, it becomes unreadable and unuseful. For a band like this, with a very broad style and genre list, is probably to include a section in the article itself that talk about it, using all the various sources, rather than just a massive unreadable list in the infobox.
What you should do is start a discussion on the Bull of Heaven talk page with an example of what you think the section could look like. If necessary, the infobox could then just be a link to the relevant section within the article if there isn't agreement on what the summary genres should be.

Hi, thanks for the response. As I mentioned, the original deletions were made by a troll, of whom there are many, and they deleted genres like "jazz" even though Bull of Heaven were featured in two separate jazz publications in 2014, and according to one of the articles played at a jazz festival in St. Louis in August. These people are relentless, and the page has been granted vandalism protection in the past because of repeated violations. As unsightly as the infobox may seem to you, I think that in the absence of any hard and fast rule, this may be the best way to introduce readers to the kind of band they're dealing with. They are a conceptual art group, seemingly more so than anything else, but even that is a severely inadequate description of the group. With all due respect, this is the ONE band who is literally impossible to describe with a handful of genres. The only, single genre they make a ton of is drone, but calling them a drone or ambient band is a disservice to them as musicians. Not only have they released exponentially more music than any other act in history, their catalog is a hundred times more diverse than Frank Zappa's. The infobox is informative (I don't know nearly enough about "danger music") but also a testament to the band's uniqueness and distinction from every other band working today. Hopefully I have made a case for the incorporation of such a list complementing the page, as it summarizes what the band does very well, without necessitating a scattered list of releases, several of which are already mentioned in the Wikipedia article and in articles about the band. One article from 2011 even says, "Bull of Heaven is noise, or drone, or really, whatever the hell it feels like." I'm not sure what genres best describe a band who is "whatever the hell it feels like," in particular contemporary digital avant-garde bands who have millions of releases. Seems like the originator of the article re-added the genres, giving basically the same reasoning I did. Their genres can be verified on Discogs, Rate Your Music, last.fm, etc. I do think this is the best approach. as many folowers of contemporary classical music and the like are already familiar with many genres like microtonality, isolationaist ambient, musique concrète, anti-music, serialism, aleatoric music, and many of the other lesser-known forms of music in their list.
