May 2022[edit]

Your user page says that you have an interest in music and popular culture. I'm presently considering to nominate the article for the music group BTS for FAC, which is currently at GA level, and wanted to ask if you might be interested in possibly doing a co-nomination for FAC. Any interest? ErnestKrause (talk) 15:39, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ErnestKrause: Hello and thanks for reaching out. Normally, I'd be down, but I'm a bit swamped with work and my dissertation at the moment, and I am hesitant to commit to a FAC, given the amount of work needed. That said, I'm more than happy to help out here and there; if there are any sections that you'd like trimmed down/copy-edited, or any sources you need verified or located, just let me know!--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 18:36, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting back. There are probably several of the subsections in the larger Career section which could use copy edits and enhancements for the article to move from its successful GAN to upgrade at FAC. Pick the ones you feel could use the most assistance if you can do some of them. Cheers. ErnestKrause (talk) 22:21, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Those edits from today which you did at BTS look good and the editors there seem pleased to see them. I'm supporting more edits like these when you have some time for them. ErnestKrause (talk) 19:14, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ErnestKrause, that's great to hear! I meant to do a bit more, but got distracted, haha. I'll try to jump back in soon.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 19:29, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ErnestKrause: I had a quick question. I'm going through the BTS article, and in the second section, it reads: "The album served as a narrative extension of the 'school trilogy' and a transition into their next series." I think I know what this means (that is, lyrically, it was similar to their EP series, but also served as a springboard for future releases), but I wanted to check. Perhaps this could be made a little bit clearer? Also, I noticed that the Skool Luv Affair EP was released in Jan. 2014, but the sourcing suggests it was Feb. I switched it to the latter, but wanted to check.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 14:23, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The album you mention is Dark & Wild and in its Wikipedia Composition section gives part of the explanation as, "The album served as a narrative extension of the "school trilogy" and a transition into their next series. Musically, the album fused the grungy electric guitar sounds of rock within the framework of hip-hop and continued to expand their sound towards R&B. The central theme of the album's lyrics focused on expressing the sentiments of maturing, youthful desires, and impatience for romance." The release order of the parts of the next trilogy which followed Dark & Wild is in the BTS section following the section you just mentioned. I think adding clarity in Wikipedia articles is a benefit and think it is a good idea to go in the direction of further clarity. Hope that's useful. ErnestKrause (talk) 14:37, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Those were nice edits again and everyone at the article seems pleased to see them. It looks like more edits from you when time allows would be welcome by the editors there. ErnestKrause (talk) 14:10, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@ErnestKrause: Excellent! I'll try to get more edits in soon.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 13:00, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've finally put in a nomination for FAC for the BTS article and was wondering if you might consider adding some comments at FAC based on your reading of the article. Recently, BTS visited at the White House to shake hands with Joe Biden when they represented their concerns about Anti-Asian hate crimes. ErnestKrause (talk) 16:36, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Rolling Stones pre-FAC peer review opened[edit]

Hello Gen. Quon! I see that you are listed at Wikipedia:Mentoring for FAC. Would you be able to take a look at The Rolling Stones by any chance and provide feedback at Wikipedia:Peer review/The Rolling Stones/archive2? I have some (read: done a couple) experience with FAC and am hoping to take that article through FAC following another GOCE copyedit and would appreciate any feedback or suggestions that would make the process easier. Thank you for your time, regardless! TheSandDoctor Talk 17:03, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@TheSandDoctor: Hey, thanks for reaching out! At the moment, I'm pretty swamped with my dissertation research (about Wikipedia!) and the articles that I'm wanting to focus on, so I don't think I'll be a huge help. Hopefully, in a few months, though, I'll be back to full strength, so to speak.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 17:50, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Too bad, but that's fair haha. A dissertation about Wikipedia?! That's really cool! I just looked at your user page now...let me be the first to pre-emptively congratulate you! I would love to read your dissertation of that was ever a possibility. Shall I keep you in mind for future FAC articles? TheSandDoctor Talk 17:58, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
Once upon a time, when we were both fresh-faced Wikipedians, ours was the first intensive collaboration I'd undertaken. You were an excellent contributor to find in this weird "Wikipedia" thing we were both doing. I have no doubts that positive experience was a significant factor to my continued participation here. I recently came across your username in an article history, and with it came those memories and good feelings. Thanks, and I'm really glad to see you're still here, too. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 04:35, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I happened to notice your comment above about "dissertation research (about Wikipedia!)", and am fascinated to learn more! I look forward to congratulating Dr. Quon! If I can help with your research in any way, please let me know!
@Fourthords: Thank you for the nice surprise; I really do appreciate it, and I'm happy that I could bring a smile to your face! I'm in the middle of dissertation writing right now, but hopefully, it'll all be done here in a few months. I'm actually planning on letting Wikipedia editors look at on some of my thoughts before I defend as a sort of 'triangulation' method. If you're curious, I can send you the link when it goes live!--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 14:56, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd love to! (My SO is a cultural anthropologist PhD, so while I'm unusually familiar with the word "autoethnography", I rarely see it in the wild; it definitely caught my eye!) — Fourthords | =Λ= | 15:13, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Pedestals of Biahmu[edit]

On 24 October 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Pedestals of Biahmu, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Coordinates resources[edit]

I had to correct the coordinates in Pedestals of Biahmu, which were off by a considerable distance. Anything touristy like the Pedestals of Biahmu will almost certainly be findable by Googling and/or by checking on Wikimapia, which is crowdsourced. Field Trip (The X-Files)[edit]

Dear Sir, Thanks for reverting my tag on the caption of the picture. I am a newbie, and want to know, what is the correct tag [i.e the correct way to encode] a wrong caption in a picture. Regarding the picture on Field trip, I am satisfied with your addition. This query is for future. Thanks in advance. Anil 1956

@Anil1956: First off, welcome to Wikipedia! In a case like this, your best course of action (in my opinion) would be to make a comment on the article's talk page (for info on those, see this article: Help:Talk pages). You can bring up concerns you have there, and other editors can offer their ideas to fix problems. And of course, you're more than welcome to adjust errors, etc. yourself, too!--Gen. Book[edit]

Hello from France and the French-speaking Wikipedia,

Just a quick message to let you know that I've loved your book. I've discovered some things (the author of the Five Pillars, the mailing list about Ayn Rand) and some papers! And I liked the chapter about becoming a critical editor.

I will read later the paper about Britannica and gender gap, but I believe that its conclusion is not true or not any more: "Wikipedia articles on women are more likely to be missing than are articles on men relative to Britannica." With Wikidata, we can have an idea of the number of biographies of women on Britannica. And now the website of Britannica as a gender criteria, so we can do some stats. The gendergap of Britannica is around 10%.

Pyb en résidence (talk) 19:10, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Pyb en résidence: Thanks for reaching out and for the kind words. If that gender gap decrease is indeed true, that is great news, and I'm happy to be wrong, haha! In my defense, I wrote the book in 2021, and things take forever to get through the publication machine. Nevertheless, if I get a chance to revisit the work for a new edition, etc., I'll glad be sure to review those numbers and make changes as necessary. I suspect that a gender gap still very much exists, but like I said, it's good to hear we're now on par with Britannica.--Gen. Quon[Talk] 21:15, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Medjed[edit]

The article Medjed you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Medjed for comments about the article, and Talk:Medjed/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of A. Parrot -- A.
