Tony Crombie

My point is that Crombie is above all else known as a jazz musician, and the kind of jazz he played was mostly bebop and some hard bop. To me it was like removing bebop from a Charlie Parker article. As for categorizing musicians, it sure beats plain old "jazz musician". That helps nobody. Jazz fans like to know what kind of jazz a musician plays, for the variations are great. The difference between a bebop musician and a swing music musician is not a small one, and this sort of categorization helps people find other artists that produce or produced similar music. There is no overcategorization if a musician in fact plays in a variety of genres. That is called proper categorization. (Mind meal 14:57, 16 July 2007 (UTC))

Blues musicians by genre

Please see this list I created, and see if you find it acceptable: Lists of blues musicians by genre. I should include R&B also, and will do so. I also am not interested in doing state-by-state categorization or lists, as I am only interested in genres. New York blues, Memphis blues, Chicago blues, et cetera. (Mind meal 09:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

I included Georgia blues, but am a little unsure about including it. It was my previous understanding that Piedmont blues covers that regional style. Any pointers? (Mind meal 10:18, 19 July 2007 (UTC))
Yeah, I am pretty excited about getting to work on them. If corrections are needed as we go along, no problem. I'll try my best getting everything accurate though. Hope it all goes without a hitch! I'm going to go ahead an remove Georgia blues in light of your agreement on Piedmont. I also added Songster to "blues genres"; technically not a genre really, but it works I think. What do you think?(Mind meal 12:37, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

I agree 100%. (Mind meal 12:40, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

Hey, are you interested in helping start a blues project? I think it could use one. (Mind meal 12:44, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

  • Nice addition to the songster article, it really needed it. I think it is fair to include it in the blues genre realm. As for the project, I think I'll begin work on it in a few days, as soon as I'm done having fun with the categories. I'll need to find someone who can make some templates. (Mind meal 13:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

Craig Doerge

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Craig Doerge, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Avi 17:20, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I could really use some help, as someone has been nominating all of my lists for deletion. This seems rather odd to me, as they seem fairly straightforward. (Mind meal 03:38, 22 July 2007 (UTC))

Fair use rationale for Image:Henske_ssc.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Henske_ssc.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 19:43, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Marion Harris

Hi Ghmyrtle. You are off to such a great start on the article Marion Harris that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- JayHenry 21:32, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Leasowe

You're right, the location dot on the map I added to Leasowe should be further north. Having tried to locate the co-ordinates and grid ref on http://www.multimap.com - it doesn't seem to recognise the town, only Leasowe Station (the co-ords I used instead). Will try to fix it. Barbecue Bob

Ha, I was reading the same thing when i edited the way I did - my intention was to reduce the single sentance/ short paragraphs. At any rate, I'm fine with there being multiple paragraphs, but there doesn't need to be a separate section for his brother - the info on him is just 1 sentance.--Cúchullain t/c 07:15, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Maybe if and when the article is expanded it would deserve its own section, but for now it's far too short. If it is expanded and Lincoln gets his own section (or article), it should still be at least mentioned farther up.--Cúchullain t/c 19:38, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Cool...glad you found some more info and added it. There are a few more things out there (Bruce Bastin wrote about him in two of his books) but I can't find my copies so I didn't include everything! I live in the area, and a friend of mine who is "a bit older" (and grew up in Burlington) told me that he went to Long's store when he was younder, and that it was in Burlington. In fact, I seem to remember that he told me that Long actually didn't have a store in Durham at all, but that Fuller (for instance) went to Burlington for music-related dealings. I'll do my best to locate the information and post it. Thanks for the update! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Evets70 (talkcontribs) 19:49, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

.......part deux: Actually, you were/are very right: Long did manage the United Dollar Store in Durham for a year or so before moving to Burlington. I found a 1976 interview with him, and he talked about his time in Durham. I'll post the "new" information asap. Thanks again for the heads up. Evets70

RE. ERIC GALE

Copied from a post to timotab, who you seem to be in contact with. REMEMBER INFORMATION IS FREE.

To whom this may concern;

I am writing on behalf of my late father and family. I am the daughter of the late Eric Gale and lost him to cancer on May 25, 1994, I was only 12. My dad left a great legacy, a beautiful wife Masako M. Gale and four daughters Gretchen, Eriko, Mariko, and Noriko Gale. I am writing to you because I wanted to add more information on my father that his fans, friends, his future grandchildren and family would like to read when the situation calls for it. Frankly, I don't know what information you need from me in order to add more information onto my father's site. The information I have added onto Eric Gale's page came from the (c.d. liner that we have all rights to)Columbia house release of the two albums Ginseng Woman & Multiplication which is of course permitted. Ghmyrtle feels the need to control the information solely in his best interest as I have no idea who this person is which I find unnecessary. My family has been through enough, let us handle what future generations know about Eric Gale. Clearly the current info. is not enough. He was born in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn New York and it is something he was proud of (do you really want me to fax you his death certificate?)

If it is against the "rules" to add additional information from a c.d. liner that we own the rights to, can I, his daughter, write about him in my own words? He took me to studio sessions, even shows like the Chevy Chase show (with whom he worked with on Saturday Night Live & Taxi)and many others when I was a child. I went everywhere with him. I do think I have a right to this just as much as some random man from some where in the U.K. that wished he knew my dad. What right does he have to lock down Eric Gale's page?

On Eric Gale's page I noticed today that this Ghmyrtle added a reference (which was not there yesterday) that I had put there earlier, but "failed" to add on correctly when I revised the page. If you need "verifiable" proof, the last time he logged on was today to add that specific reference in - he doesn't even know which album I got that from, otherwise it would have had that on the page as well. I am sure your job here is make sure all things run smoothly. Tomorrow I will scan and post the album cover I am referring to {Eric Gale - Columbia Jazz Contemporary Masters - "Ginseng Woman & Multiplication" it's a two-album c.d.). In this release contains the word-by-word article from Chris Albertson (Contributing Editor) Stereo Review.

Please help to correct this and set the records straight.

Thank you,

Eriko E. Gale —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eriko E. Gale (talkcontribs) 22:52, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

I removed the link because it was mainly about the person rather than the school and so breaks Wikipedia's guidelines. I will not comment on its literary merit, but even as a former pupil I didn't find it interesting. I will not start an edit war but I guess someone else will come to the same conclusion eventually.JMcC 09:36, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Jlaird.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:25, 8 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Doryprevinharpomarx.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Doryprevinharpomarx.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:30, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Can you help me ? I received the attached e-mail concerning the wiki article on Chris Hillman. Needless to say our American friend has massively over-estimated my knowledge regarding imaging (or anything else, if the absolute truth to be told). I believe you may be able to assist. Incidentally, I am still not convinced about the birth year (despite what Chris "says"). Many thanks,

Derek R Bullamore (talk) 19:20, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Derek:

I see you have contributed. I bet you're much smarter and technologically adept than I

Could you please activate the photo of Chris Hillman, the link to which is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hillman.jpg

You'll see it hanging after the second paragraph. It's from Hillman's website press kit, so there is no copyright problem. In fact, Chris asked me to stick it up there. I couldn't figure out how to display it.

Also, Chris told me he was born in 1944, not 1942, so I changed that. Couldn't figure out how to change IMDB.com, from where you got the 1942 date.

Thanks.

Removal of phrase in Richie Unterberger

I noticed you reverted my removal of a phrase in the Richie Unterberger article. First, thanks for giving an edit summary--it makes things much easier. I didn't remove the phrase because it was false--I remove it because it isn't supported by a reliable source. If you can find a reliable source that verifies it then it can stay, but otherwise it'll have to be deleted, even if it is true. MrVibrating (talk) 18:35, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
