Hi, good work and I'm glad to see someone reviewing it, it certainly looks neater. However I think the overall style of the portal, old and new, needs to be rethought. Its not that easy on the eyes and it seems a bit cluttered rather an directing the eyes to important information. Though I find that with most portals, I tend to avoid them as they don't seem to have much in the way of useful links. Currently after you scroll past the long intro you are bombarded by loads of links. I think we could cut them down to key topics in simple terms, pages that are important and have a lot of info. e.g. euro, enlargement, government, presidents, members. Long lists of tech terms could deter people unfamiler with EU terms, well long lists in general. E.g. the member states list, perhaps a clean list with flags, like the right side of the List of European Union member states page? Topics

OK, well one thing at a time. Lets start with that bombardment of links after the intro, "Topics". Would you simply suggest moving it down the page so people have to traverse thru everything to get to it, or shortening the set of links so some major topics may be neglected and not accessible? I think the topics as they were (Portal:European Union/Topics), is much better (simpler, shorter, easier to read) than what is currently there ({{European Union topics}}). Sticking it at the bottom seems like a bad idea, major links should be visible on the first page view without any scroll down. Perhaps if we had an expandable box? Possibly to the right of the intro so the major full links are shown and then for more you just expand it and get the full list? Might need several expanding boxes to give it some order of course but I reckon that would be a decent compromise. -JLogan 07:12, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

(addition) Actually, rather than an ordinary expandable list, have a dual page system (like main/member states/content) which is a simple list first with the main links in ordinary terms for those who haven't a clue and then click full list for the whole lot in their correct terms? -JLogan 07:14, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

While the expandable boxes seems like it could work, it sounds alittle complicated for a simple set of links. But, if you can do one up, might as well see what it looks like. Joe I 05:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
