External linking[edit]

We generally don't use blogs as references on Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:External links for guidance. You've been adding numerous references to wineforspicewarrenedwardes.blogspot.com(.uk), and these are inappropriate for referencing published regulations that should be referenced directly. If you have any association with this blog, you may also want to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Thanks. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:57, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. No connection. I am a regular reader. Difficult to tell the difference between an online magazine, a column and a blog these days. There are plenty of all three referenced in Wikipedia.--GinaKendal (talk) 17:43, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, not a problem.
Blogs can be used as references in special cases, such as a news blog run by a notable journalist or sponsored by a major news agency; or a blog article by a recognized, notable authority on the topic the Wikipedia article is about.
Regarding this Edwardes fellow to whose blog you were linking, he certainly seems knowledgeable enough about what he writes, but after a rather lengthy search on my part, I could find no evidence in independent, reliable, secondary sources that he is recognized as an expert, and no evidence that he's a notable wine writer. Mostly I found were other blogs and personal pages linking to his blog. Moreover, the blog articles to which you linked referred to labeling regulations, and in those cases it is best to reference the regulation directly, as that is the most authoritative source. There's no harm in using the blog to find those other references although there's no need to cite the blog.
If you have questions about a source in the future, Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard (WP:RSN for short) is a good place to get a community consensus about whether a source is appropriate to use as a reference. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:22, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You can judge for yourself if Edwardes is "notable" by this article in Edwardes' blog - obviously written by himself. "My Blog Viewer Numbers are Rising" http://wineforspicewarrenedwardes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/my-blog-viewer-numbers-are-rising.html
But you may have noticed that the Sherry article has two blogs referenced out of five references as external references. Consistency might be deemed desirable.
A blog writer's own evaluation of his notability doesn't mean anything. Simply put, he has no significant coverage in reliable sources to indicate any notability whatsoever. Other non-notable blog references have been removed. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:46, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
