English[edit]

I see that you have been making minor edits to improve English. Several of your changes have been improvements, but some haven't. For example, English says that a career has spanned more than 70 years, not that it has spanned for more than 70 years. I suggest that you don't try to correct English unless you are really sure that what you are changing was wrong. JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 15:17, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JBW: Hello there, JBW. We all tend to make mistakes when we edit. So please, if you ever find a mistake in my editing whether it's about something factual, grammatical or about any other thing, feel free to correct it. There's no need to send a message like this to my talk page. –GinormousBuildings (talk) 16:49, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Negeri Sembilan Malay[edit]

Hi GinormousBuildings! Thank you for the expansion of Negeri Sembilan Malay! I have some comments+suggestions for the section "Phonology":

  • You forgot to add the source
  • English glosses should come at the end: apa /apa/ > [apɔ] 'what' – normally I fix things like these myself, but this is so much :)
  • The expression "became" is problematic when you refer to Standard Malay as source. NSM did not evolve from Standard Malay, but both SM and NSM derive from a common Malayic source. I know that virtually all NSM pronunciation can be inferred from their SM counterpart by these rules, but better you write "corresponds to"
  • Maybe we can arrange it in a table, like first column: correspondence rule (e.g. Final SM /a/ ≙ NSM half-low back /ɔ/), second column: SM example, third column: NSM example

Btw, this[1] is a pity, because it's really interesting. I guess you have retracted it for lack of sources. Are you sure you cannot find a good source about it somewhere? –Austronesier (talk) 08:24, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Austronesier: Hey there, Austronesier! Thank you for your feedback . For the section "Phonology":
  • I did have a source. In fact, it was a source that had already been cited before I started editing the page, it just wasn't expanded upon in the article. (To be specific, it was the 4th citation in the list of references in the "References" section.) The reason I didn't cite the page in the phonology section was because it didn't look good to me aesthetically if there was a citation mark there.
  • Thanks for correcting me on that. I'm still new to editing Wikipedia so this really helped a lot.
  • Right, I'll get on with correcting it (as well as with the "phonology" citation thing).
  • That sounds like a good idea. I think will go do it if I have the time and chance to do so.

Unfortunately, yeah I genuinely had no source whatsoever to back anything that I wrote in the "Phonology" part of the Kedah Malay article. That was all based on my observation of the accent of my father (who was born and raised in Kedah) and the accent of random Kedahan celebrities (E.g. matluthfi90). I don't even think my observation was that accurate. –GinormousBuildings (talk) 22:02, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Northern Kedah dialect moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Northern Kedah dialect, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
