Hello, Gluons12! I'd like to invite you to join the new Rick Riordan Task Force (formerly the "Percy Jackson" Task Force), which works to improve articles related to Rick Riordan and his books. Check out our project page or contact me to learn more! -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 02:02, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hi User:Gluons12! Welcome to Wikipedia!! I noticed your recent move request at Talk:West_African_Ebola_virus_epidemic. These kinds of things can be a bit rocky, and sometimes more seasoned editors can be a bit harsh with their knee-jerk reactions, but I hope you don't take it too hard. I'm very glad to see another editor joining the ranks who is interested in microbiology/virology/public health, and I hope you decide to stick around! There's so much to do, and we could really use all the help we can get! As you get more involved in the project, if any questions arise, feel free to shoot me a message at my talk page, and I'll be happy to help however I can. Also, you can ask the good folks at Wikipedia:Teahouse (as I see another editor mentioned above). Also I hope you'll consider joining one of the WikiProjects to which you recently posted the notices of the move request. It can be hard to figure out what needs doing around here, and so a WikiProject is a nice way to find a to-do list. Anyway, I hope all is well and that I'll see you around the project more often. Happy editing! Ajpolino (talk) 01:54, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks...

Thanks so much for your work here. It seems to me that you are off to a good start! One day you will be old and jaded like me, so I hope you understand my initial eye-rolling to your Ebola edit. I really do appreciate that you have been willing to continue with your suggestions for change of the article. Best, Gandy Gandydancer (talk) 19:20, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Stella argent

Hello Gluons12,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Stella argent for deletion, because it's too short to identify the subject of the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Trivialist (talk) 00:02, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

Not a problem at all. The page history makes it look like I wrote the page, but it really was written already and I moved it to Stella Argent which is now a redirect to the TV series... Gluons12 talk 02:02, 9 July 2016 (UTC).

Categories

Hey Gluons, it does not take much more time or effort to do this instead of just this. I know there's some people that value things being added to the uncategorized category, but I'm not one of them, and for the article writer it must seem very dismissive. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 02:05, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Brain fingerprinting, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Latency. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 11:28, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

I have replied

Hi, I have replied back on that page, see [1]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.182.186.110 (talk) 16:01, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

I was referring to how you didn't respond to an attempt by Mar4d to resolve the edit warring going on on the page: see the talk page. Also, as a courtesy to other editors, please be sure to sign your posts on talk pages with your signature (~~~~). In addition, that diff that you showed me was done after I posted the report, not to the talk page or at any other relevant thread. Thanks, Gluons12 talk 16:20, 24 September 2016 (UTC).

Mfboom

@Mfboom: First of all, please refrain from deleting the thread of another conversation on someone else's userpage in order to post your own, as you did here. Also, if you read the note I left, you will see that it says "In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary." In the first edit, you gave no edit summary, so what I posted was just a general note requesting that you better explain your edits in the future. Although I think that the application of a {{citation-needed}} tag would suffice, I have no intention to edit war, so I will not revert. However, to quote WP:CRV (I am aware that it isn't a policy, but it is still good advice, in my opinion):

When removing a section of an article, it is necessary that it at least be explained, and in some cases, discussed. Unexplained content removal is when the reason for the removal is not obvious, and is open to being promptly reverted.

If you would like to post what you tried to post earlier again, feel free to do it above (in this section). Thanks, Gluons12 talk 02:32, 25 September 2016 (UTC).

Reinstated content to Clemenza page

Hello,

I received your message regarding my deletion of content from the Clemenza Character (Godfather) page without citing my reasons. First I'll admit I'm not ordinarily an editor of Wikipedia so the protocol is foreign to me. The content in question seemed so outlandish and out of place I assumed anyone reading what was removed would quickly understand why I deleted it.

My first red flag was a reference to the Virtual Boy video game, which most consider to be a failure game system. The suggestion that there was a Godfather 2 virtual boy video game sounded even less likely and from there the content tied the fictional character to a real person (albeit semi-public personality) in Miami performing criminal actions in the context of the game's story.

The content also lacked any citation and my own investigations quickly proved the paragraph was likely a prank and/or possibly libelous to a real person. No other sources online seem to validate any of the claims of the paragraph. Since you reinstated the statements I'll defer to your standing that the content is appropriate for the page and you might also have information which could validate the paragraph in question. Possibly add your own citation so the mistake doesn't happen again.

Also if I'm incorrectly using the user talk section of wikipedia, forgive my ignorance as this would be my first use of a talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.38.225.245 (talk) 23:36, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about your concerns about this. After closer examination, it is possible that you are right about it being a hoax/prank, so I placed a tag in that section to that effect. The reason that I reverted is that the removal of an entire paragraph without explanation normally constitutes vandalism, although not always, as your edit wasn't. In the future though, when removing information from articles, be sure to give an edit summary. PS: If you want to sign your edits on talk pages, you can type ~~~~. Thanks, Gluons12 talk 23:55, 25 September 2016 (UTC).

Rollback granted

Hi Gluons12. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! MusikAnimal talk 16:03, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

On Derpwhales

Hi there,

You recently reverted one of my edits to the article "spectacled porpoise", in which I describe them as "derpwhales". This is indeed an accepted term for them. Source: [1]

This source is not reliable, and even if it was, porpoise is definitely the common name. Gluons12 talk 01:44, 7 October 2016 (UTC).

GOCE blitz

Thank you for adding your name to the GOCE's blitz page. It looks like, in your enthusiasm, you may have missed part of the blitz instructions. This blitz is for Requests only. You are welcome to copy-edit other tagged articles, but they will not count for the blitz. Thanks, and happy editing! – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:00, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

@Jonesey95: Sorry about that, I thought that Requests were just the focus, not the only allowable articles. I might suggest that you adjust the instructions at the blitz page which states that "This Copy Editing Project Blitz is a one-week-long effort of the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy editing; those carrying the {{copyedit}} tag OR listed on the GOCE Requests page," in order to prevent other people from making the same mistake. Thanks for letting me know, Gluons12 | 14:41, 18 October 2016 (UTC).
Very good, thanks for pointing that out. I have adjusted it and added a comment to our boilerplate text to remind editors who create future blitzes that they should adjust that text as appropriate, depending on the blitz's focus. Happy editing! – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:03, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Aam Sutra

Hello Gluons12. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Aam Sutra, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Content had been added, the article was tagged to quickly, please don't tag within minutes of creation. Thank you. -- GB fan 00:27, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

A Cookie For You

Speedy deletion

Thanks for flagging Skin Pigmentaion supremacy as "This page is redundant to Racism, so it isn't necessary, as it adds no valuable content." - in a case where an article literally adds nothing to the article it's duplicating (and doesn't have a title that's worth redirecting), you can flag it for speedy deletion per WP:A10. --McGeddon (talk) 16:07, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

@McGeddon: Thanks. I wasn't sure if WP:A10 would apply because I thought that it might be worth preserving as a redirect. In any case, thanks. Gluons12 | 16:11, 21 October 2016 (UTC).

Citations

What can be more accurate than the remarks of a person who has known the subject personally? Phillip Medhurst (talk) 22:06, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

@Phillip Medhurst: If you are saying that these are your remarks, then this edit constitutes original research, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. If you are quoting someone else, you need to be able to provide reliable sources, and identify it as a quote. Furthermore, the statement you introduced is not written from the neutral point of view, which is required on Wikipedia. I have removed it again, and please do not add it back unless you back it up with reliable sources, or unless you gain consensus on the talk page. Thanks, Gluons12 | 22:26, 25 October 2016 (UTC).

Beth Teper

I deleted a lot of incorrect information. If you take a look, there are a lot of impossible things listed as accomplishments, including that she wrote the college blue book during WWII.... example: "only national, network of people who stand up for traditional marriage". The College blue book was written by Teper while she was studying in Paris, during World War II. Teper is an author, actress, singer and public figure in Europe and the Middle East.

Teper is also the former executive director of COLAGE which is the exact opposite of NOM. Here are additional troll like edits that were made at some point prior to my attempt at removing them:

A Hong Kong native and Oakland resident, Teper attended private girl schools in Boca Raton and Yuma, she graduated from Harvard with a B.A. in Law, astrology and Modern Dance.[1] - even the source is incorrect.

She joined The People's Army in October 1906 and has been an active participant and leader in the LGBT movement ever since.[1][3][4][5]

Prior to being COLAGE's Executive Director, she served as a dance coach for the Oakland Raider cheerleaders and as chair of the Hormel Board of Directors for almost twenty years.[6]

In 2005 she led Planned Parenthood's Hurricane Andrew relief efforts to support Asian families and groups

In 2010 Teper and COLAGE along with The Progressive Project filed amicus curiae brief in support of the plaintiffs in Shriver v. Schwarzenegger (Proposition 8).[12] The brief focuses on "the harm that occurs to pets of same-sex couples when marriage equality is banned".[12]

And the sources listed don't support any of this...

These are all ridiculous edits that should be reversed at the very least. --Chrissymad (talk) 14:48, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

@Chrissymad: First, I would like to admit that I am not an expert on the subject. It is possible that you are right, and if you feel that the edit you made should be kept, then you can revert me, as like I said above, I am not very familiar with the subject. However, if you are reverted again, then you should probably start a discussion on the talk page to determine consensus. Thanks, Gluons12 | 17:59, 27 October 2016 (UTC).

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.
