Double Entry Book Keeping Intro Example[edit]

Your original layman's example:

For instance, to record making §100 in profit would require making two entries: a debit entry of §100 to an account called "Cash" and a credit entry to an account called "Income."

needed improvement but it has evolved since that time to be even less clear -- at least to this layman -- so I'll just refer to your original example: If I make a profit, I can understand why it might be in a credit entry.
