Regarding Saint Joseph, yes as you stated Matthew does not say that, but most people are unaware of that fact. That was discussed on Nativity of Jesus and there is actually a sentence there now: Matthew does not explicitly state that Joseph lived in Bethlehem prior to the birth of Jesus, ref= Virgin Birth of Christ by J Gresham Machen 1987 ISBN 0227676300 page 193 in case that discussion comes up again.
