Refs

Lisa Beamer; merge with Todd Beamer

I think that Lisa Beamer should be merged with Todd Beamer. She is not really notable for anything except being his wife. I recommend that this article be merged with Todd Beamer. With due respect to Lisa Beamer, she's notable only for being the wife of Todd Beamer, and that doesn't warrant a separate article. Bach cantata

@Tim riley: No worries. I used the WikiBlame tool to figure out that you'd removed it in this edit, and checked your contributions around that time to find out that you'd removed it per the FAC discussion. I didn't make or upload the file; it was part of a bulk upload of Pandora Records music. When I discovered that collection on Wikipedia (which I later cleaned up), I fell in love with this recording of the bassoon sonata. It's not perfect ... Arthur Grossman struggles with some of the faster passages in this live performance. However he plays the slower passages (which make up the bulk of the sonata) exquisitely, and I never tire of listening to this sound file. Graham87 12:44, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Heights/weights etc IP

Hi, I noticed you blocked the dog breed/rapper IP last night? I guess it is the person discussed in the AN/I thread? He seems to have changed IP again to this one. Perhaps I'm just getting confused as he seems to geolocate to Philadelphia again? I'll ping @Drmies: here too (partly in retaliation for him linking me to some rapper stuff ... ) Should the IPs be listed on the now very old SPI or just continue in the hope it can be kept on top of? Audio files

Hi Graham. Many thanks again for your help with Bach's trio sonatas for organ. I'm still busy devising content for the main sections of the article, including creating my own audio organ files, but if you can think of any audio recordings that you want to add to the discography, external links section, etc, I would be very grateful. There are arrangements for chamber instrumental groups (I think there's one by the Purcell quartet that has been highly praised). So anything you can think of. The more the merrier. I don't know if the oboist Marcel Ponsele had made any CD based on these. He has recorded some of the harpsichord concertos for oboe or cor anglais (often presumed to be the instruments for which some of the conertos were originally written).

At the moment I have been creating audio files for BWV 39 using linux software. Instead of midi files, which rely on a reader's software and configuration files, I have been producing ogg files where I can choose and adjust the instrument files myself. There is still a slight glitch with linux and audio, in that the software TiMidity++ creates a slight click or crackle when starting. I might install one of the very recent versions of this software which solves the problem (apparently one symbol is wrong in the software). Here is an example that I produced—the orchestral sinfonia at the beginning of the first movement of BWV 39—with 24 bit sound. On the vlc player on my laptop, it plays without clicks; but on the wikipedia software there is a slight click at the very beginning.

Please tell me what you think. The most recent version of TiMidity++ is only available as a source, but I could install it in the tmp part of my computer just for the purpose of creating wav files from midi files (the intermediate step to creating ogg files).

You can see that contrary to what you said there is a provision for editing your own comments when it has been more than a little while. I'm now following those guidelines. Please don't touch my comments. Thank you.

And btw, not to answer this question you asked at my talk page ("how does the Wikipedia community besides you benefit from your recent edits to talk pages?") but to comment on it: While the actions of editors are in general supposed to benefit the encyclopedia and the community, it will be a dark day when any editor can grab another and order them to justify any action in terms of the supposed benefit to etc. and then appoint themselves judge of whether that other editor's action benefitted those or not. Then we're back to Stalin's Russia. It is understood that the freedom to judge of the quality of one's own contribution to the talk page and the peace of mind that gives contributors will as a whole benefit the encyclopedia and the community. As to whether my action is unusual, maybe, but perhaps it shouldn't be. Many of my contributions just littered the talk pages for no purpose and I have seen many many other editors contributions that do the same. Maybe the readability and the usefulness of the talk pages would benefit from more than a few editors taking a critical look at their own contributions and doing what I do. I had deleted a bunch of edits I had left on some people's talk pages under the assumption that they will be automatically notified and can revert or object to what I had done. Then you saw fit to revert or delete my edits. I'd like to know who appointed you to take the action you took above the heads of the owners of those talk pages. While they were not my talk pages neither were they yours. If those people object they will be automatically notified and can take the action they see fit if they object to what I had done. So, again who authorized you to take the action you took? Please show me any guideline that says your action was legitimate. Basemetal 13:34, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

@MediaKill13: I didn't do the protection; my name is only in the log as a side effect of me importing an edit into that article. The person who originally protected the page was Angusmclellan, who did it per this message. Even discounting the fact that the protection was based on an ArbCom case, I'm not inclined to unprotect highly viewed articles about important topics which could be tempting targets for vandalism, like this article is. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Graham87. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
