I reported them a year ago but was told by RoySmith that action wasn't really needed due to the length of time and the lack of reverts. I also believe the account Aocloyalist (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is them (same topic overlap of left-wing politics, wars, Islam, and Puerto Rico) but they haven't edited in a month. wizzito | say hello! 05:27, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Better Diffs: Accessibility Considerations

Hey Graham, hope you're doing well! I was wondering if I could ask a (work) favour — I'm taking a look at the potential accessibility considerations in regards to some changes we're planning to make to diffs, and although I'm fairly confident in my understanding of ARIA and the such, the couple of times I've tried to use either JAWS or NVDA I've struggled. Would you be willing and able to screen record both the workflow you describe for viewing diffs, and how your screen reader normally reads a diff (i.e. without viewing the page source etc.)? @TheresNoTime-WMF: I could try ... but I'm not sure how useful it would be to you because the audio of the screen reader quite often doesn't correspond at all to what's currently on the screen! When viewing diffs using the HTML source I use JAWS's virtual find feature to search for diffch ... and when reading deletions/insertions JAWS marks them with deletion/end deletion and insertion/end insertion, respectively. @Jpgordon: Per guidelines about message removal on talk pages]]. I like to check talk pages to find out if their oldest messages remain intact; on busier talk pages they were often removed/tampered with due to vandalism. I think what was said on talk pages should be a matter of historical record. Sometimes I do choose not to restore messages that the author removed later, but this is probably a borderline case ... it was up for eight months. Hello Graham87, import is able to bypass certain parts of the interface administrator controls, however if any adjustments are needed such as another move, or if the content model isn't set correctly, it will be stuck until an interface administrator can work on it. @Gerda Arendt: Wow, sounds fun. Nope, subtitles don't read out with screen readers here, but it's OK. Richard Strauss is one of those composers whose work doesn't often move me, but when it does, it really really works. I like his magical contemplative music, like Jessye Norman's take on "Morgen!" and "Beim Schlafengehen", but most of the rest I've heard (including that in the link mentioned above) is too much for me. Yesterday I saw and heard the enchanting Diana Tishchenko. I added a pic that I took to her article, also a lovely short video with interview and music. Whats the LGA Format in Australia

I would like to know about this format. I already have some idea of what it is from seeing other LGA pages such as the City of Perth, but I find it really minimalist and leaves out key factors of LGAs such as roads (which are the responsibility of LGAs to maintain), education and economy. When compared to other third level divisons like counties in America, it seems that Australian LGA are quite minimal when they could include more information relevant to the shire. @Topeka-GuyWiki: It's ... generally the way the article was before you edited it. The City of Perth is a really bad example because it's a central business district. Have you edited here with another account before? Your editing pattern is ... more than a little bizarre. Also these articles are generally only substantially edited by Australians. I live in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale (hence my affection for it) and have been living in Australia since 2009. However, I also see myself as being Thai, Cambodian and British due to my close heritage to these nations, so this is probably why you see weird editing patterns. I normally edit Thai and Cambodian pages due to the lack of details and attention they have but I only edit Australian pages that I have some connection in it, such as residing in it. The problem is that there isn't really any good Australian LGA articles, so there is no baseline we should be striving for. There is a certain overlap with suburb/locality/town articles, such as Byford, Jarrahdale, Keysbrook, etc. From my experience, LGA articles are more about the governing body (wards, councillors, localities) and historical population (we have population records for LGAs going back to the first Australian census in 1911 but only for localities since 1996), whereas education and transport are more often in the locality articles. Economy is one thing I think would be better suited to LGA articles than locality articles, as the LGA articles cover a larger area which which is more suited to talking about the local economy.
For what its worth, I think what most of what you have added can be kept in. The content is not terribly off base. You have duplicated the list of population though. Until we have an LGA article we can point to and say is a good example. Steelkamp (talk) 05:07, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
A very typical process across the Australian project is that people almost always are exceptionalist - their local suburb, their lga, their region, their state - very few editors allocate time and effort to actually check the whole project for consistencies, and precedents, subsequently their are 'standards' that are in most cases geographically limited. In the early days the Australian Places, and in turn the state projects were the sites of attempts to develop policies/practices for editors to reach and understand an Australian consistency. As time has gone by, the exceptionalism has grown, as well as the numbers of active editors seems to decline, there has been a tendency to ignore the idea of standards across the larger project. Ideally if the process and intent of the Australian places project was resurrected - a template/discussion of LGA article standard for oz, there could be a possible resolution. But it requires discussion as there are variations in the way established articles have been created in different states and territories. JarrahTree 05:46, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Recent checkuser blocks

I saw you ask at WP:VPI about two recent high-profile checkuser blocks. I know you to be something of a wikihistorian, and I saw no one has directly answered in the thread yet. While I'm not privy to the exact information, the two most recent high-profile checkuser blocks I can recall are User:GizzyCatBella during the recent Holocaust in Poland arbitration case, and User:MalnadachBot's operator (apologies if your screen reader doesn't understand Kannada script) User:ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ, blocked days ago during the acceptance phase of another arbitration case. @Folly Mox: Thanks, wow, I don't usually check out the arbitration pages (AN/ANI can be insane enough) so that's why I missed both of those. I had a gut feeling that perhaps the latter user was involved (though I had only good interactions with them) but I didn't follow up on that. My particular screen reader/speech synthesiser reads most characters that aren't in the Latin, Greek, Hebrew, or Arabic scripts as question marks by default (with a questioning intonation rather than literally saying "Question mark" or "Question?" or something like that), though this can be configured. It's also possible to modify the pronunciation of a particular text string of non-Latin characters, though I've never felt the need to do that because I've never had to interact with two or more users whose names are read as question marks at the same time. Honestly in recent times when I've encountered an established user whose name is read with lots of question marks on the English Wikipedia, I've generally been able to assume it's ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ and mostly been correct.
