The vast majority of the sources used are affiliated sources notably from the theatres or festivals with which the subject has worked. there are a couple of sources that come close notably the LA times article. the tone of the article is too promotional with unattributed phrases like "Particularly innovative was his production of" "was seen as particularly powerful" "Nadia Kevan, the internationally renowned expert"

Draft Brian Michaels[edit]

Hallo Domdeparis, I would like to ask you for an explanation concerning your decision to reject the article that I have proposed. I suspect that the theatre and opera director, Brian Michaels – despite being born and bred in London – is of little interest for the British Wikipedia readers. He is active worldwide as a director, teacher and artist, but not in the UK. He is a true cosmopolitan, and in that respect more than a British citizen. The majority of the references have used, relate to his activities around the world. Does this have no significance for the UK? Very strange !

To be honest I can't understand this at all. And to be honest I find the reasons given for rejecting the article, unconvincing. How shall we proceed? I find the comments that you have made unsatisfactory, and therefore I don't think that the Tea House is the right place to continue – and I simply don't have that amount of time available.

To summarise: I consider the artistic work of Brian Michaels, to be of the highest value. His work in the theatre is seen as innovative and unconventional by critics, students, and colleagues, wherever he has worked. I respectfully request that you reconsider your negative decision. Hi Granville, if I understand rightly you are relatively close to the subject of the article? judging by the promotional tone of some of the phrases and your passionate message about this person I think this may be the case, you may want to read WP:COI. Notability is a relatively subjective thing but there are some basics that you might want to read and maybe after having read them you will be more convinced by my reasons and find them less unsatisfactory. The invitation to the teahouse is automatically added when an article is rejected. Before sending this message I hope that you took the time to click on the different links to try and understand the reasons despite your professed lack of time. Just for your information I am British but I live in France and have several close relatives who works in opera so I am not looking at your article from the point of view that you suggest. Despite that the sources that you have added are not enough to prove notability. The guidelines state that "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list." the great majority of your sources are affiliated sources as in they are the theatres and festivals that he has worked for. I pointed out that the article in the LA Times is the kind of thing that is needed but one source is not enough. The phrase about "the internationally renowned" nadia kevan with her own web site as a source smacks of WP:PROMOTION and WP:LINKSPAM and should be removed. Hallo Domdeparis, thank you again for your constructive reply. There is a major article featuring Brian Michaels' Shakespeare work, appearing shortly in a special edition of the journal Shakespeare in Southern Africa (SSA). The theme is Decolonising Shakespeare and will be published this year. Should I perhaps wait until it is available online before re-submitting the article? Your welcome, thanks for the kind words, it's not an easy task reviewing as a lot of editors get huffy when then work is rejected or criticised (even constructively). Add the links that you have and I'll have a look, it doesn't matter what language they are in and if they are in French that's even better as it's the language I have been using daily for the last 25 years!
