Thank you very much for your reply. But unless I am misreading the legalese, it doesn't sound to me like any of the release options offer any protection against using images in offensive or implied endorsement types of situations. If in order to allow for potential reuse of these images on t-shirts or coffee mugs one must also allow its use in pornographic derivative works, for example, then there is no way I would even release one of my own photos under those conditions. Yes, the chance of misuse in that manner is extremely small -- just as is the chance of Wikipedia or anyone else being sued for using the picture in an appropriate manner even without a release.

But if Wikipedia is (or seems) to want to offer such broad protections for itself and its readers that it requires the copyright holder to agree to offensive or objectionable uses for the images they might be otherwise willing to contribute, then I expect that at least your biographical content will have virtually no quality images at all.
