Here's one thought: Novation was actually a telecommunications equipment company. Hayes Microsystems, Kentronix, HyperEdge, and many other companies are also considered telecomm equipment companies. Telecomm and networking, from an engineering perspective, are different. For example, a router is a networking product. The CSU/DSU that connects the router to the telco is a telecomm product. That's basically the distinction I have in mind. With that, you could possibly throw Novation into Category:Telecommunications equipment vendors. Groink 00:13, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm being pro-active by writing the following explanation before a kim-chee drama fanatic starts flaming me for my edits. In summary, I removed all the synopses that were linked to YA Entertainment's web site. I did this per guidelines set by the official policy Wikipedia:Copyrights.
In case you don't have the time to read the Wikipedia Copyright article, here's a summary: You cannot just plagiarize an external web site and at the same time claim you received permission to use the information. It doesn't work like that in real-life. Your word is no good on Wikipedia - no one's going to believe you. If we were to allow you to post copyrighted material just because you said the owner said you could use it, we would have to make a huge effort to verify that claim, by e-mailing the owner of the material, browse through the external web site looking for licensing information... It's just a HUGE headache on the part of the other editors. The reason it is vital for Wikipedia to be clean of copyrighted material is because Wikipedia itself allows people, called downstreamers, to use its material on their own web sites. If DramaWiki, for example, copied the synopsis for Jumong from Wikipedia, DramaWiki would be indirectly violating copyright law because the synopsis was originally owned by YA Entertainment. Wikipedia does not want that sort of thing to happen.
Exactly how would a contributor properly use copyrighted material from an external web page for Wikipedia use? First, the material posted on Wikipedia must include the EXACT URL of the external web site from where the material came from. Then, on that external web site page, there must be a clause somewhere in the page that says something along the line of "WikipediaUser has permission to use the material on this web page for use on Wikipedia AND its downstream users."
A more formal way of obtaining permission and proving it would be to follow the guidelines explained in this Wikipedia document. It explains how to write the permission e-mail and how to forward the information to the Wikimedia Communications committee. Hope this information helps!

I have looked at the license for DramaWiki and found that it is "attribution-share-alike" [1], which is not enough for copying under the GFDL. It is to comply with WP:DATE in that Wikipedia does not allow ordinal dating. Therefore, dating should utilize autoformatting of dates, such as [[September 3]] [[2007]] so that 1) it conforms to Wikipedia style, and 2) it allows for users' date and time preference to set the date formatting they want, rather than have the article dictate the formatting for the reader. Hi Groink. I'm afraid Macr237 is correct. You've been a bit overenthusiastic and have peppered the James Squire with a good number of links - the majority of which are considered, under current guidelines, as trivial. The guideline you refer to, WP:DATE#Dates, does state: "Wikipedia has articles on days of the year, years, decades, centuries and millennia. Link to one of these pages only if it is likely to deepen readers' understanding of a topic." Added to which the autoformating to which you refer (even when used moderately) is the subject of a debate, and may be discontinued:
The intent of the linking has nothing to do with linking. Rather, it is unfortunate that MediaWiki software uses linking as a means for the autolinking to work. The unfortunate outcome of overlinking is a byproduct of the system, and not because I like linking dates. Besides, I also removed linking from years where it didn't have a month/day next to it. Personally, I would've used templates instead, but for now Wikipedia hasn't implemented that. As for the talk link, it is just talk. Thanks! This editor is very persistent. Check UEFA Cup records and statistics; he has a long history of reverting with very little to no basis on his edits. You can have a dozen other editors coming up with a consensus, and he STILL will favor his data. You just can't deal with him on a logical level. Something else needs to be done. You've done the right thing by bringing more attention to the issue. I've watchlisted the UEFA CR&S page as well. I've warned the other editor about edit warring and to instead discuss on the talk page - and to add civil edit summaries when making an edit - so hopefully that behavior will stop. This list is compiled every quarter based on the previous three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of users as well as page views. Please note that the rankings may be controversial but not the distribution stats for each domain. The next list is likely to be updated on 1st July 2008.
I believe lists are better than long narratives in explaining the complex market structures that are still evolving in the online economy. For instance, each domain listed above used to be a specialist in atleast one segment viz advertising, search engine, etc. Google can longer be called as a search engine company as they control almost 70 per cent of the online advertising market now.
This list would be expanded, given time, to include UK-specific revenues, employees, market shares, specialisation, etc... It is a work in progress. The list is now sortable with additional data from Compete.com. So, it is no longer a wholesale reproduction of Alexa ranks only.
No hyperlink possible - Data on visitors from UK is not available online. So, no duplication or plagiarism of work is involved. The list collates data from two sources - compete.com and alexa.com - via permalinks to give the UK snapshot.Anwar (talk) 21:02, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not original research. It is better referred as data mining. The information about visitors was already wellknown within the industry. But it was not available for public consumption until now (for free). The list is as good as the lists for GDP. Easily maintenable as visitor trend tends to peak or stabilise when the product reaches critical mass with the public. Hi Groink, I hope I didn't come across to harsh in making the CD objective secondary to the betterment of the image (via fair use vs. the commons). Is there a way to have our cake and eat it too by substituting commons images just before the article gets added to the CD? Then we can revert to something that's more appealing to the masses. I saw your deleted comment on fair use. I'm sure on further consideration you realise we're applying fair use doctrine because it allows us more latitude on what we can present in an article. Except for special projects like the CD that will be published outside the US, this fair use approach benefits the greatest population of readers, inside and outside the US. I would like to point out that the Japanese Wikipedia page for Saka no Ue no Kumo now specifically says it is a Taiga drama, even though the main taiga drama page still lists it as a special. I think we need to think about reincorporating the list. I don't see any wrong in incorporating the special into the main list, as long as we make a note on it being a special. What do you think? Please continue to use this Japanese Wikipedia list as inspiration for the English taiga drama page. The Japanese uses the term 大河ドラマ to mean period or historical drama, as you and I would, for example use Kool-Aid when talking about a fruit drink, or Xerox when wanting to make a copy of a document. The Japanese even calls Korean period dramas 韓国大河ドラマ (Korean taiga drama), for example when FujiTV referenced the drama Jumong. There's also evidence to indicate that NHK uses the 大河ドラマ moniker when referencing drama renzoku that fall outside of the Sunday 8:00pm timeslot, such as Miyamoto Musashi when it aired between 1984-Apr-4 and 1985-Mar-13. The whole point I'm making here is that you are taking the term 大河ドラマ to mean something that is more general, while both the Japanese Wikipedia and I believe that the taiga drama article on Wikipedia is written specifically for the annual 49 or 50-episode renzoku. I hesitate to contact you here because you were pretty rude to me in your comments on the Rain Talk page and I don't want to set myself up for hurtful comments, but the guidelines for resolving disputes say we should try to contact one another and resolve things directly so I am tying that. I am sorry if I offended you by implying that you had negative intent in your choosing to post the pink picture on the page. I consider that to be a vey unflattering picture and maybe made an incorrect assumption that you intentionally chose it because it was unflattering. Would you please clarify your rationale in the choice of that picture when there are so many better ones available? Also, it's kind of clear from your comment on the talk page there that you don't like Koreans: "Like religion, the Koreans are trying to SELL their people, and make them out to be equals with people who REALLY earned the status of being IMPORTANT in this world. Most of us can see through all of this" The guidelines say we should discuss directly our diffences, but I don't know whether it can make any difference to your opinion if I say anything about this. I admit that I have a particular opinion about Rain and a more positive opinion about Koreans that you don't share. I would like to edit the Rain page and try to be careful to maintain a neutral tone despite my positive opinion and to back up my information with reputable sources. I am a little afraid to even try though, because I think I will be shot down. Thank you for placing the correct copyright tags on the article. I recommend reuploading the image as a PNG no larger than 300 x 300 px in order to meet the "low resolution" requirements of non-free images. I thought the image looked very fit and in itself was ok, but truth be told, if this was allowed, most of such images would likely come off as looking ugly (or worse), needlessly put more load on the servers and one way or another, take away from what volunteers here are meant to do with their accounts: Write an ancyclopedia. Eh, maybe, maybe not. The reception section complaint bothered me, as I'd said, but really you have to admit that GA status isn't very realistic with the chaos right now. It's like there's a cycle; a new iPhone model is released, and a flood of new editors swarm the article, throw in original research and unreliable sources and bad formatting and POV, older editors scramble to keep up, and eventually things settle down and the article gets into good shape, until the next model is released. It seems like the article is GA nominated each time a new model is released which sabotages the review. I wouldn't worry about it, and I'd wait until closer to Christmas time when it is stable, then perhaps nominate it again for GA with a different reviewer. In the eyes of Wikipedia, it is stolen. You did not apply any license template to the image. You didn't say it is public domain, or that you've obtained permission from the Russian web site to use its imagery. Wikipedia does not allow copying of images from one web site and upload it to Wikipedia. Even if by chance you own the Russian web site and its imagery, you must apply the proper template to the image. Until you do so, we can't use it in any of the articles. It's a weird thing. When I first saw this article, there was no space or comma between "14" and Sakai-san's year of birth, so I added it. Hi, I've temporarily removed the SD template from this article, while I have big problems with the creators actions I spent some time tidying this article. Given that we have articles for Koka noodles, Indomie Mi goreng, Wai-Wai (food) etc. I think it would be wrong to pull the article completely. What do you think? Notability can be achieved in many ways. Distribution statistics is one way. You may know that it is massively popular in the UK, but exactly how did you achieve this idea? Remember now that original research is not allowed. If you can't find any sources about its popularity, then we must question whether the popularity is even a fact. Also, the product being inserted in popular culture is another way to prove notability. I'll throw out one good article - Cup Noodles achieved its notability because of its international distribution, and the product being known as one the contributors towards starting the instant food trend. BTW, when you start comparing other articles to prove a point, Wikipedia guidelines basically say that all the examples do not prove anything other than they too might be violating similar guidelines and policies. You're assuming that Asia is not English speaking, which I feel the need to correct you on. For example in the country where I reside, I watched most of her shows years ago with the original audio with English subtitles on public broadcast TV, and listened to her songs being dedicated on an English radio without understanding what she was saying (I liked the tunes). Hey Groink - You added references to CEEIS and DTOS to the USACE site (still redlinked, BTW). When I first built this section of the article, I was using USACE references (although sometimes hard to document). Are these two new items actual organizations or are they entities within some USACE organization or perhaps even just a combo hard/software system (e.g., CEFMS, RMS, CETAL, etc.)? USACE does seem to like its various IS systems. It is kind of hard to keep up with this kind of thing since each reorganization seems to be done mainly with the intent to get some colonel his or her star. Admittedly, the issue of organization or entity is hard to define as there are some that would say that each and every squad of each and every military engineer unit and each and every project office of each and every district is entitled to be called an organization. Thoughts?

DTOS has been around since at least the 1990s. It operates under the Corp's Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and is usually among the first within the Corp to arrive at a disaster site. DTOS is really just a portable Internet Service Provider - providing Internet connectivity, VOIP, satellite phones, and HF/VHF radios. They've worked in places within CONUS such as 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, and in locations within PACOM such as Yago and American Samoa. Although it runs under EOC, DTOS is recognized by the Corp as a separate entity when covered by the Corp media.
CEEIS used to maintain the entire Corp's IT by itself. But it wanted to emulate what the Navy/Marines had in NMCI. CEEIS developed ACE-IT, and gave Lockheed Martin the contract to operate it. Other contractors like Northrop Gruman also work for ACE-IT, as well as many sub-contractors like APEX Systems who work during a six-month probation period. CEEIS chooses everything for the Corp's IT infrastructure - such as make/model of PCs, servers, printers, etc. It also designs the Active Directory infrastructure, and decides where to place the various processing centers. CEEIS is currently designing the Corp's server consolidation effort. ACE-IT then takes what CEEIS designs and maintains them. ACE-IT's performance is measured by CEEIS, and then decides whether to extend LM's contract, or go with another contracting company. Interesting enough, there is some re-org going on between CEEIS and ACE-IT. For example, CEEIS eliminated the RIO/SRIO positions who once worked under CEEIS and ran the various divisions/districts, and is instead converting them to chiefs that operate within ACE-IT. The good thing here is that the chief is more pro-ACE-IT, and strives to make the contract a success.
ACE-IT is really a work-in-progress, IMO. I used to work for NMCI, and currently work for ACE-IT. NMCI was better structured - as the Navy/Marines gave virtually everything IT to it. CEEIS remains the decision maker, and ACE-IT is just a "break/fix" entity. But, it looks like the re-org is trying to give ACE-IT more decision making power, which is a good thing. The problem with your analysis is that your entire premise is based on just one game. Your analysis is basically, "I know that the iPhone is a gaming machine. Let me find something that can prove it." This is totally wrong, and Wikipedia covers this type of research in its guidelines. You cannot make a hypothesis, and then find data to prove your point. Here: http://www.macgeek.org/museum/pippin/information.html clearly states as "6 MB combined System & Video Memory, advanced architecture" plus "64 kbyte SRAM Store/Restore Backup". I think the 128KB is the correct number. 64KB seems really small - especially since it was the only place to store data on a typical Pippin unit. Plus, the 128KB is in the developer document. The Mac Geek site copied the 64KB value from http://support.apple.com/kb/TA34388?viewlocale=en_US , which was the PR release for the media. The NVRAM might have been increased later on.
