Another Indian?[edit]

Hey Guujaaw. I seen the edits you made on the Haida page and on the Guujaaw page. Is this the actual Guujaaw or a fan of Guujaaw who used his name for a Wikipedia account? I'm OldManRivers. I'm Skwxwú7mesh and Kwakwaka'wakw and one of the very few indigenous contributors to Wikipedia. I've done a bit a work on articles related to Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast but have spent most of my time working on the articles relating to my Coast Salish side. You'll no doubt see that from the page on my Skwxwú7mesh people, which I have a feeling is one of the most extencivly written and most detailed article on any indigenous people in North America. Anyways, you can reply here by click edit then below what I've written here make an indent by doing this: :I have placed the colon below the text.

Which makes it turn out like this.

In any case, welcome to Wikipedia. :) OldManRivers (talk) 21:16, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is the real Guujaaw, and holy smoke signals this Wiglopedia is rough, ....are you OK. I don't know who submits this stuff, but it needs work, I was trying to fix the one about myself and they got mad at me, they want citations. I guess that means they want me to tell them where I get the info from. Unsigned edit by Guujaaw at 10:06, 12 November 2008

Yeah, it was like that when I first joined. They are just worried about wrong information being added (which is ironic since it's already wrong information on the articles), and also worried about bias and want Neutral Point of View (NPOV). If you check out the links above (Introduction, The five pillars of Wikipedia, How to edit a page etc.), you'll get a good understanding of some of the guidelines of Wikipedia. When I first came here, the "Squamish Nation" page was abysmal. It talked about our culture as if it died and only exited in the past (You'll actually find this type of language a lot on Wikipedia, which is why we need more indigenous contributors to curb that non-sense). I hope you stay and contribute more and can help you in any ways.
If you want to talk to my page, go [here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:OldManRivers User_talk:OldManRivers], click "Edit this page" at the top of the screen, scroll the the bottom, and leave a message on my talk page like I am doing right now on your talk page. You can do that or send me an email. OldManRivers (talk) 20:55, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Guujaaw[edit]

If you want to make another article with the same title, then please create one, but don't replace the current existing article. Make a unique and proper title (see WP:TITLE) and then you can create disambiguation page for this (see WP:DISAMBIG). Dekisugi (talk) 06:23, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know who put me in this place, but whoever it was did not know me or they would not have referred to me as Gary Edenshaw, this is a name that hasn't existed for 20 years or so. My drivers license and passport is guujaaw, giindajing and haawisdi are not first and second names, but other Haida names for particular occasions, I do not think it is unreasonable to take off Garry Edenshaw, a name I explain in the conflict of interest page, also the other two names practically and formally should stand alone, it isn't like anglo names perhaps this article should say Guujaaw means Drum in the Massett Haida dialect. If anyone finds himself of herself described anywhere, indeed they should be concerned about getting it right. Let me say, this is not an ego thing, I simply tried to make your page match the person, if you want to take my name off this thing, that would be fine with me. unsigned edit by Guujaaw at 09:39, 13 November 2008

use of "minor edit" switch[edit]

Please note that "minor edit" means punctuation, spelling, minor grammatical fixes; not changes of text (and especially not deletions/substitutions of text). Please learn to play by the rules....Skookum1 (talk) 16:58, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Working on Guujaaw Article[edit]

Hey Guujaaw. Since there has been so much ruckus over your article, I thought I'd help out and fix it up to meet wikipedia standards and also make it into a somewhat better article. It is pretty bad at what is right now and I want to help create a better written article, but also one more truthful. Do you know of a couple books I can cite for information about you? I'll also fix up the name issue and perhaps include information about why you are not Gary Edenshaw anymore. The only WikiPolicy I can find on naming conventions for biographies is this. We (Being the Wikipedia editors) might have to develop a new policy for naming conventions with biographies of indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast because a lot of people have their traditional names and prefer to go by that. (Although not many have taken the courage to actually change their name legally. Something I really respect and plan to do when I get my name also actually.) I am a bit busy this week with work, but at some point early next week I can get around to fixing your article. I wrote this article on my great-grandfather Andy_Paull, which you could see as a basic biography article. Just thought I'd let you know that I fix it up and hopefully all these guys will stop bugging you. OldManRivers (talk) 18:15, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
