March 2016[edit]

Information icon Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:Gwen Wynne, from its old location at User:Gwenwynne/Gwen Wynne. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. /wiae /tlk 12:54, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Draft:Gwen Wynne. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. /wiae /tlk 12:54, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, Gwenwynne, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Proposed deletion of Gwen Wynne[edit]

The article Gwen Wynne has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The subject of this article does not appear notable per the criteria at WP:BASIC.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,

I just rewrote the page adding sources that wrote about productions that received national attention and cover a young professional theatre director. The Rap Musical Sanctuary, D.C. was novel and the first of its kind in this country. Please see Ralph Brown's wikipedia page. Please tell me how the productions cited are not notable. Isn't it customary that the director is credited. I am a Directors Guild of America member and advocating for more women to direct. I hope the span of the career of Gwendolyn Wynne notes a moment in history when women had to create their own companies and pursue their own productions. Just like the feature film Wild About Harry. Otherwise, myself and dozens of other women directors are rendered invisible.

Thanks for your consideration. Or please guide me or have someone else write about the span of my career as a woman pursuing directing in theatre and film in one of the most difficult eras in the entertainment business's history.

Cheers,

Gwen Gwenwynne (talk) 08:57, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Gwenwynne. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Randykitty (talk) 10:58, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

About your comment at Gwen Wynne[edit]

Hello! I noticed that you posted a comment at the top of the article Gwen Wynne. Actually the place for comments is at the article's talk page, Talk:Gwen Wynne, so I moved your comment there. I didn't want you to be wondering where it went! Every article has a talk page for discussion; you will see a link to it at the top of the page. --MelanieN (talk) 15:40, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I just noticed that you are working on a couple of drafts, one called Draft:Gwen Wynne and the other called Draft:Gwendolyn Wynne. But the article Gwen Wynne, which you created, still exists as an article. You should focus your efforts on the existing article rather than creating new drafts. If there are changes or improvements in the drafts, add them to the article and get it into the best shape possible, and then ask to have the drafts deleted. You can request that the drafts be deleted by blanking them, or by putting {{Db-u1}} at the top of the page. If you have questions, you can ask me here; I will see it. --MelanieN (talk) 15:46, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought, I see it has been suggested that you let the article go, and focus on one of the drafts. You are fortunate that an experienced editor, User:Onel5969, has offered to help you with the draft (see his talk page). I strongly urge you to follow his advice. --MelanieN (talk) 00:48, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@MelanieN: thanks for supporting these efforts. Still learning. Sorry if I'm not abiding by all the rules. Still learning them -- it's more a mistake than being a rebellious soul. I have a deadline for another project so I must hurry thus I will study all the rules in the next two days. If Wiki ever wants to assign me some people to write about in theatre or film I would be happy to... like Lloyd Richards African American Broadway Theater Director) or (Ivan Passar) etc Cheers, Gwen Gwenwynne (talk) 01:29, 23 March 2016 (UTC). --Gwenwynne (talk) 01:29, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Some of it is "rules"; some of it is just "how things are done"; some of it is common sense. Common sense: not to have three different articles (one article and two drafts) about the same subject. How things are done: don't write your comments at the top of the page; write them in the thread you are replying to, or at the bottom of the page if you are starting a new discussion. You will notice that a kind soul moved your comment here, from the top of the page where you originally put it. Rules: per WP:Autobiography it's best not to write about yourself, but to get someone else to write it or help write it (as User:Onel5969 has offered to do for you). --MelanieN (talk) 15:18, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
