Atbarah River

Hi, I have made Tekezé River a redirect to Atbarah River. Until the article becomes much longer, it would probably be best to put all the available information into one article and not break it up into its various sections. Thanks for the comments! The Tekezé/Atbarah is confusing, as one of the maps I'm using shows these as two tributaries of the same river. The 1911 Encyclopedia description doesn't really agree with what appears on the map. Hmmm... That is confusing. Is it possible that the Setit River in the article is the same as the "Atbara" listed on the map, so the Tekezé is actually a tributary of the Setit/Atbara(h)? In that case, it would certainly be its own article... Even the UN can't figure it out and refers to the "Setit-Tekeze/Atbara". Request for help with Ogaden

Hi Gyrofrog, There appears to be a bit of confusion about Ogaden, the Ogaden Province mentioned in Ogaden War, and Regions of Ethiopia. I can't even figure out if there actually is a province named Ogaden. If you can shed some light on the issue, it would be of great help.

Hi BanyanTree, I'm not really sure about any of this! I know that Ogaden is not currently one of the nine regions, it's part of the Somali Region. I wasn't aware it was a province under some previous system - yet it's usually labeled on maps. And "Ogaden War" must refer to only one phase of that conflict, as Ethiopia and Somalia didn't sign a peace treaty until 1988. It was also bigger than Ogaden - at one point the Somalian military had pushed pretty far into Ethiopian territory, way beyond Ogaden. I'm having a similar problem with States of Sudan - the names of administrative subregions changed so many times it's often unclear what version of the subregion is being referenced. Ah, the pain of political geography! ;) Take your time with the Ogaden thing. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's now under the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region. I just substantially expanded Ogaden War, even though I know next to nothing about Ethiopian history as a whole. Please drop by when you have a moment and give it the once over. Thanks! Now in the summer I could be happy or in distress

The page move seemed to go a bit odd - Wikipedia was playing up. I've always thought that the band was 'The Flowers of Romance' and the album/single was just 'Flowers of Romance'. The compact disc I have here in my left hand, which is (c) 1990 Virgin Records CDV 2189, is definitely 'Flowers of Romance'. It's here in fact: [1] However it does indeed look like the American release on Warners, XBS 3536, was 'The Flowers of Romance' [2] [3] Hunting around it appears that this entry on Discogs.com, [4] which is the original British LP release V 2189, is probably wrong or at least open to doubt, based on the Google results. [5] I would therefore conclude that the album was indeed called 'The Flowers of Romance' when released on Warners in America, but is otherwise 'Flowers of Romance', and I'll make a note of that in the article (or you will, if I am too badly wounded to do it myself).-Ashley Pomeroy 22:47, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

It was undeniably 'The Flowers of Romance' on the original US vinyl issue, at least on the front sleeve (concerning the back, spine, and labels, I have no idea). Howdy! Looks like all the edits to The Flowers of Romance (band) lately are either by you, myself, or some anonymous associate of Tony Blackplait. Weird stuff going on with that article. Whenever I would dispute Blackplait's involvement in the original Flowers of Romance, the guy would come back and revert his own edits. Now he's created a duplicate article at The Flowers Of Romance which is now listed at VfD. Just want to make sure you knew which edits belonged to which editor... I don't think it really matters what the title is, there are a lot of lists that are just "Rulers of..." or something similar (Counts of, Dukes of, Kings of, etc), and lots that have "List of" in front of them...I don't think anything special happens if it begins with "List of" though. The Flowers of Romance (orchestra)

This is the second recreation of this "information" after it had already gone through VfD. The guy who created it originally at The Flowers Of Romance tried to claim that not only was he one of the members, but that they're from Sealand. It seems to be a hoax, or something, but anyway, they keep recreating it after it's passed VfD and it's going to get redeleted each time. Poison-ivy

Hi Gyrofrog - this is how it is given in several (though I agree far from all) botanical texts, the reason being to indicate more clearly that it is not an ivy (Hedera); similarly that poison-oak is not an oak (Quercus). For similar examples, e.g. osage-orange (which is not an orange Citrus), and douglas-fir (not a fir Abies) - MPF 17:35, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Template:Sharedip

It looks like you have added this template to lots of anonymous user pages for different ISPs. I just wanted to confirm whether you are sure all the IPs that you marked as shared were indeed shared proxies or dynamic IPs. There are ISPs which own many IP addresses, most of which they give out to their customers, one per customer (static IP) and a few they use for proxy servers, if any, and probably a few could be used as dynamic IP addresses. Hence not all the addresses that give the name of a particular ISP on a "whois" query should be regarded as sharedIPs. e.g. my IP address is currently used only by me but shows my ISP on a "whois". -- Paddu 20:18, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm not saying it is wrong to use sharedIP at all. It is OK to use with most AOL IPs since they are proxies serving many customers. I was just pointing out that there were ISPs giving out static IPs that we have to be careful about. So we should stick to the ISPs we know enough about before assuming the IPs are shared. Please continue using the template for ISPs that are known to give out dynamic IPs or have a common proxy server, etc. -- Paddu 10:17, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No problems, we didn't get in any trouble, it just made me a bit nervous. I was half-expecting this to occur at the Israeli embassy, based on my previous experience just walking around the block as I ran an errand up the street (a guard followed me from within the perimeter as I was walking outside). Hi Gyrofrog, I noticed that you reverted my edit at Eritrean-Ethiopian War. The reason I made the original change was that the UNMEF abbreviation was the one at Timeline of UN peacekeeping missions. Are you sure it's correct? (It seems that all UN abbreviations are of the French name for the group, so I'm never certain which is correct.) -- llywrch July 1, 2005 19:09 (UTC)

I'd say your evidence is far more convincing than mine -- & UNMEE makes more sense to me in any case. (You've been to Addis Ababa? The closest I've ever came was in proxy, when my Dad visited Sudan a couple of times in 1970s.) For the clear-cut cases like this WP:AIV is fine as far as I'm concerned, if you're a little flexible in reading Wikipedia:Vandalism you can include imposter usernames as either sneaky vandalism or changing people's comments. If it's not absolutely crystal clear that it's an intentional impersonation WP:AN/I would probably be the correct venue. --fvw * 19:20, August 30, 2005 (UTC)

Bulga Yelet Giorgis

The Yelet Giorgis church where my father's kin (on his mother's side) worshipped for generations, stood on the same site and had a traditional thatched roof.

Sometime in the late forties, a bee colony had settled inside the thatched roof and was discovered by the priests as melting honey was trickling over the Tabot inside the inner sanctum. Some of the deacons and priests decided to get to the honey and it is said that they climbed over the sacred Tabot to reach it. And of course, to drive out the bees, they had burning/smoking embers which inevitably started the fire of doom that burnt the church to the ground.

However, the sheer weight of the centre piece of the thatched roof, fell on top of the Tabot and buried it in the ground, thus saving it from being consumed by fire.

The people of Buhe Amba; Gerar Amba; Ber; Girger (Yeletotch) searched for 3 days for the missing Giorgis Tabot among the ruins but failed to find it. It was an elder, sitting and wailing for the loss, who finds the missing tabot with his stick and sends for my father, Dejazmatch Kidane Woldemedhin in Addis.

This is how it all began. My father had the church re-built on the site of the old church and in 1949 (EC) the Tabot of Giorgis, now knwon as "Essatu Giorgis" since that fateful fire, was restored in its new home. When I was a mere 13 or 14 year old, I went with my dad to Bulga Yelet Giorgis and it was then that my admiration for the work; the pleasant memories of the Bulga Hospitality and the beauty of the rugged landscape began. We had workmen with us, carrying out repairs to the church.

My dad passed away in October1979 and it is probably over 15 years since any of us his children, visited Yelet Giorgis. In April 2004, my brothers Atnaf Seged and Wondwossen and I journeyed to Bulga where we celebrated St George's day with our kin. It was also during that visit that I committed to get the crumbling church re-built.

We have now begun! The foundation is built. Their new church is being built in locally quarried stone and will have a basement for storing church relics and property. Whilst the original, thatched roof church was the traditional circular build, my dad's church was square in shape. The new one under construction, will attempt to return to the traditional circular Ethiopian Church design and will have eight sides.

These pictures are intended to show, the changing face of Yelet Giorgis church as we progress with its construction.

Hmm - I'm a firm believer in fragmented talk - it feels wrong to edit my own talk page. But anyway, I don't really expect him to file an RfC, and if he does, I'd be surprised if it passed the two-person threshold. There have been times when I have behaved badly, been uncivil in conversations, that kind of thing, but I don't even think I have behaved at all badly in this case - at least until I called him a 6th-grader tonight (correct me if I'm wrong). I have assumed it's been the same guy all along - he continues to use the word "eco-terrorist", the language has been pretty much the same throughout. He seems to take credit for the old edits I pulled up at random, but they may not have been all that old. It's funny really - I have not really edited that article - not the way it needs to be edited. It's on my watchlist because it is in desperate need of a re-write (although it has gotten better - was that your doing?)

LoPbN rdr-bypasses

Thanks for your edit. I don't want to discourage you from the LoPbN-tree pages, so ignore this info if it seems awkward to act on: the list is of bio articles, so where the redirect is from a name to something that doesn't appear to be a bio, these are close to ideal responses:

If (as in this case) a bio is simply impossible (nothing is known about him but his name on the book), deleting the entry is appropriate.
If there is enuf about them in the non-bio to write an informative sentence abt the person, write a one sentence stub & tag it with {{bio-stub}} (or a more specific bio stub).
What you did is also great, bcz it draws attention to a problem.

BTW, is the pop-up thingy supposed to work on MS IE 6.0.2 & Win XP? For me it did abt 10% of what is promised, and was too much of annoyance to put up with for so little.

As i say, looking far enuf to have that information is too much to expect, and i'm just glad to have my attention drawn to it. But i'm not sure how many ed'rs give any thot to a rdr from a bio-like title not making an article a bio!

I was seeing previews by hovering lks, but it seemed to slow other things down enuf that i'd like to be able to turn it on & off, and there was a lk in the same box, apparently to a menu for the other services, that did nothing (unless clicking on it was what brought up the "error" indication in the lower left corner of the window, where it usually says "Done"). Hmm, and my pop-up blocker is set to accept them from WP. [Shrug] I feel kind left out; looks like nice stuff. Tnx again.

Pop-ups and end of page

I noticed your comment on User:Jerzy's talk page about pop-up contents not being accessible if at the bottom of a page. I have this problem as well but there is a work around that is effective in most cases. If you resize your browser window so that it is tall and skinny, so that the text of the page is squeezed into a column that is about 10 to 15 words wide (an estimate), the full pop-up windows can almost always be accessed. Another work around is to resize your browser window so that the edge of the pop-up is near your(typically) right-hand down-scroll bar position; even if the scroll bar is not apparent before making the pop-up materialize, it will show up after the pop-up shows and if you quickly skip your mouse into the scroll bar, click, and skip back to the pop-up window you can often scroll the page down to where you can see the bottom of the pop-up window which lies beyond the bottom of the normal page. This second solution can be awkward and is dependent on the javascript refresh speed and your mouse reaction speed (or so I believe). For information, I use FireFox 1.0.4 on a Win98-secondEdition machine. I've found these two work arounds out by needing them to do pop-up-assisted disambiguation work. Weird spacing problem

See if that weird spacing problem you noticed on the Baroque music page yesterday is gone for you (I'm not sure what browser you use). I was having the same problem (on IE). Yes they can, The "alleged e-mail correspondence with Mike Etoll" can be verified BY YOU! Everything I have posted here can. Look at the pictures, do some work and research, and verify the things that you are concerned with yourself. Lung asked me by phone last night if I would correct certain statements on her Wikipedia page, and add some new photographs. I said yes, and she emailed me the pictures and text changes.

Would you do me a favor? Please verify that the hair shown in your picture is not a hairpiece, also verify that it is an actual picture of you.

Thanks for your help with these. User:80.217.152.161 does not seem to respond to any comments left on his talk page. IF he did it would help to clear up what it is he is trying to do. I've left the user another messeage asking them to discuss it on the respective talk pages for the articles or with one of us. The article is already (slowly) being worked on, and has shown improvement over the last month. On another article that I've done a little work on, that is in the middle of a major rewrite, someone else recently did a drive-by cleanup tagging (mostly because they thought that some of the new photos were too large). Because of that instance and a few other ocassions where an article has been tagged without any clue as to why it was tagged, I am starting to turn very grumpy about that particular template.

My personal opinion is that the template needs to be changed to have two parameters, a date and a reason for leaving the tag. Then if someone doesn't leave a reason or a message of the article's talk page, then it would be grounds for automatically removing the template. </rant>

Kidane Aba Kesto

Part I This famous patriot, born in Bulga, Yelet Giorgis, in a village known as Buhe Amba, started his campaign in Eastern Ethiopia where he was posted as an 18 year old soldter. He was taken prisoner by the Italians, who after 5 months of hard labour, transported him with others to a prisoner of war camp in Wollisso. Whilst in this prison, Aba Kesto secretely persuaded 100 prisoners to join him in a breakout. They fought their way out of the camp with weapons and amunition they had been stealing from the Italians whilst they were prisoners.

From there, Aba Kesto and his men began their journey to join the resistance army in Northern Shewa and en route met up with Dejazmatch Geressu Duki where they participated in several campaigns. Whilst with Geressu, the resistance army was visited by the Italian spy, Sebastiano Castagna(Muse Questegna), led to them by five local Balabats. Castagna gathered the army and told them to give up the fight the emperor himself had abandoned and to surrender to Italy, who would reward each one of them with titles, etc. The Arbegnotch had already heard that Castagna (known by the Ethiopians as Muse Qestegna) had been to Abebe Aregai's camp to establish that army's strength. Subsequent to which, Grazziani had sent aircraft and heavy artilery against Abebe Aregai's resistance fighters.

Aba Kesto escorting Castagna back to his camp after the propaganda meeting, told him to remove his gabardine cloak and to step off his mule. He then executed this Italian spy claiming his cloak, mule and a watch with Empress Zauditu's picture on it. At this point the traitor balabatoch returned to their Italian masters who unleashed their military might on Geressu's and Aba Kesto's men. The Italians were denied Castagnas corpse for 3 days by the gallant Ethiopians.

Geressu Duki asked Aba Kesto to submit his loot from Castagna as his commander. Dear Gyrofrog, Yes it is true that tigrigna is widely being in use in the United states, Canada and the rest of the world, however these tigrigna speaking population living in this countries are imigrants, but in the case of Israel; the people residing there have been relocated from northern part of Ethiopia mainly Gonder and Tigray which predominantly speak Tigrigna and these group of people are also not considered imigrants as they are decendants of Israel and they are Jews who have returned back home after staying refuge in Ethiopia and other countries. on pentay christians

Greetings sir,

Pentay describes the Pentecostal/charismatic denominations inside Ethiopia. Since Evangelicals, Methodists, (Even baptists) and Pentecostals worship under the same church in Ethiopia, Pentay has been used to these Christian denominations which are not Ethiopian Orthodox. They are all believers of the trinity as Evangelicals, baptists, holliness and most modern Pentecostals are. And as you might have guessed, they stress the outpouring of the holy Ghost/ Holy spirit which is sent to them when Christ rose and went to the "right" hand of the father. So Pentay is not a community, it is a religion that brings a few of the Protestant denominations together in regards to their differences to the dominant Ethiopian Orthodox Church.-- sincerely...EthioM
