I have responded to some of your questions, if you have the time. I did not create this category by mere whim. I simply saw a problem and wanted to clear it up. (Mind meal 17:29, 9 July 2007 (UTC))

  • Yeah just ignore it. I was pretty angry having my work thrown to the furnace. Especially when I wasn't seeing coherent reasons as to why. It was just a bunch of merge, merge merge per nom. It was annoying. Then I yapped way to much and any points I strove to make were lost on others. It was my fault. I should have been short and clear in my posts. The problem was figuring out a way to word it all in a clear manner. What is done is done. All abums are back in jazz albums now, whatever. I tried. (Mind meal 15:27, 10 July 2007 (UTC))
  • That is okay. The album itself doesn't even meet notability criteria really. The album is as obscure as they come. (Mind meal 16:28, 10 July 2007 (UTC))

Plan to improve Somalia articles

Hi Gyrofrog
I (running the Somalia portal of the German language Wikipedia) am planning to improve the Somalia articles of the English language Wikipedia. The aim is to largely eradicate unsourced/POV statements (especially in articles about Somali clans...), to improve the quality and reliability of the articles – and, if possible, make good or featured articles.
As I have noticed that you have reverted vandalism and unsourced statements in Somalia-related articles several times, I'd like to ask you if you are interested to help me do this. (I'm not very familiar with the rules of the English Wikipedia, which are, in some ways, different from those of the German one. For example, I cannot understand why the Somalia article is not definitely semi-protected. In the German Wikipedia, the level of vandalism in this article would certainly justify a such protection.) Regards, Béka 20:35, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Categories

I can't get anywhere on this matter. Just look at the conversation at WP:ALBUMS to see why I did it. There are many ways to accomplish this end, but nobody seems to want to make it happen. They just want Benny Goodman and Miles Davis in the jazz albums category, and that is that. As if they were the same thing. I didn't want to do it, and I'm seeing now I'm not physically going to be able to do it. But that is how the category guidelines work right now. It is crazy. I'm trying to help them out, but they don't even listen to jazz. They think it's all the same. I don't know what to do at this point but give up. (Mind meal 20:37, 12 July 2007 (UTC))

Discography lists

Discography lists already exist when the need arises for them, that is already common practice. That doesn't seem to me to be the issue at hand. The issue at hand is WP:ALBUMS refusal to come up with a coherent way to categorize albums by genre. What else can be said. you don't like Category:Ornette Coleman free jazz albums. People don't like the moving title's proposal. It is a no win situation, even though a clear problem exists and WILL PERSIST. I have ceased making useful edits right now because currently I cannot do them. I hate the Category:Ornette Coleman free jazz albums method, because as you well know it is really tedious work. It shouldn't be that way. Incidentally, lists are often used as a reference for categories! That is the irony. What you are saying really is that something like Category:Jazz albums by genre shouldn't even exist. It needs to have albums in it to exist, and albums fall into those subgenres. They just do. All Music Guide would be a circus sideshow if they categorized musician albums the way we do, and ultimately would not be taken seriously in any way. I just keep getting this strong feeling that people are just not understanding this problem at all. I don't know if it is over their heads, too much reading to be done to comprehend it, inexperience with even dealing with subgenres. I don't know what it is. But currently WP:ALBUMS fails to offer editors a clear, simple way to categorize an album by a specific subgenre. That is not going to change with mere lists. (Mind meal 19:51, 13 July 2007 (UTC))

Ethiopiques !

Hi! Yes, the Ethiopiques were of course released in vinyls before, although it's now a new re-edition of them. But the article can't start saying it's something of the 1990s when it was already famous years before... I'll look for some more info on that, but all in all we're all saying the same thing - except that's it's a bit tough giving Buda Musique all the credit for something that's going on for twenty years, if you know what I mean! As a side-away question, what's the best album you think? I really like the 9th one... Tazmaniacs 03:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Your lectures

For God's sake, please stop lecturing me about how I am to compose myself. Enough is enough. Will you do that much for me? Do you have even that much respect for this user? I am PISSED OFF. NOTHING can get done in this regard. NOTHING. Why the **** would I not be angry? I created 42 subcategories that all will be subject to deletion after this new merger. I created new categories like Category:John Coltrane hard bop albums because I thought finally at least there was a way to categorize albums by subgenre. Now THAT cannot be done. And all the while, everyone is so cool and collected because they don't give a **** about the topic. To alot of you, it's all "Jazz". All jazz to you folks. I'm sorry alright, I sound like a whiner who can't get his way. I feel that way. I don't know what to do... (Mind meal 19:26, 17 July 2007 (UTC))

Piedmont blues/Mance Lipscomb

Hi! I'm curious as to why Mance Lipscomb was singled out in the Piedmont blues article for not having a proper citation. Granted, all the musicians should have a reference for inclusion in this article, but why was Lipscomb the only one removed? Peace & plenty. --buck 21:32, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Response at User talk:Buckdj. -- Gyrofrog 22:49, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
No, not at all--at least I didn't take it as such. :) Lipscomb's blues recordings incorporated and built upon the Piedmont style of finger-picking, which originated in the Piedmont region of the US. Several other Piedmont musicians mentioned in that article hailed from outside the region. Sort of like not having to go to Kansas City to get Kansas City-style barbecue (though I wouldn't dare assume the same about Texas-style!). Peace. --buck 03:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Canadian Census is not accurate. They only gather information mostly from tax paying citizens and persons who fill out census papers every 4 years

you are not a somali, you do not know anything about somalis. and you live in america. you are simply a Caucasian man with no knowledge to figure out canada's census is not accurate what so ever or about somali populations.

You are not being correct

Since you changed Canada's somali population to 33,000, you have to put UKs somali population to what BBC has

BOTH ARE FROM 2001

BOTH ARE EARLIER..

You have shown me NO EVIDENCE OF UK SOMALI POPULATION TO BE 160,000 OR AMERICAS TO BE 150,000

BUT I SHOWED U SOMALIS POPULATION TO BE 100,000 IN CANADA, from the Toronto Star and another website. All those show figures over the 30,000

Alright, write down whatever you want. Im just telling you, that you are misleading people.

How can you be trusted when you wrote down the wrong UK figure? Where did you get all those other figures such as USA, Yemen, Ethiopia, etc etc?

There are no references to those.

Either put back what was written before, or if you are the fair person you say you are, look up the other figures.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Norwegianman (talkcontribs) 20:41, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Alright but I think its only fair you change the other misleading numbers, alright? The majority of them are wrong and I supplied at least two links to suggest that my statement is true whereas the other nation's somali populations have no references what so ever. And I read one person has an interest in editing somali pages, so I'm expecting you to reveal true information. Alright. Thank you.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Norwegianman (talkcontribs) 20:50, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Anyways, please look up USA Somali population. If you cannot find it, please simply take the country off the chart. Take off any country off the chart with no evidence of their populations. And I can see that you are not the favourite editor on Wikipedia by reading your post wall so I can see that I am the only one thinking you are unfair. You had a Hargeisa Mayor spokesperson to question your material. Again, please change the chart. About Sanaag

Hi if you are one of those interested in Somali politics and land. Please know the reality. I take the tip of using sources thank you very much. But I had to do alot of editing because the whole site was biased and did not report the truth about Sanaag. Learn more about Issaq , SNM , 1988 , 1991 . Issaq is the predominant clan of Sanaag and represent the majority. Darod , dhulbahante and warsangeli a small fisherman clan represents only 3 and 16 % of the population in Somaliland. http://unosat.web.cern.ch/unosat/freeproducts/somalia/UNOSAT_Somalia_basemap_v1.0_lowres.jpg—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mission92 (talkcontribs) 22:51, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Eritrean ethiopia (CIA) war

The suggestion of millitay victory is simply incorrect because the means the eritrea army was wiped out which is incorrect plus its higly offensive suggestion that the ethipion army AKA (Bunch of clowns)defeated the eritrean people. Its my absolute commitment to change that comment every time regardless of your subtle threats of blocking.

I suspect that your anti - eritrean views is the reason why your desperately trying to block me.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Theapple12 (talkcontribs) 17:58, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Gyrofrog

Any (So called) third party source such as the BBC ABC reuters AFP etc are all anti - eritrean forces therefore there are no reliable source that could Satisfy your hatred views, its well known amoung the eritrean community world wide that sources like BBC and thier corrupt reports are as reliable Joseph Goebbels.

Another thing about so called "Verfiable sources" the name of the correspondent is not shown on [1] link to the bbc site, furthermore the title says "Ethiopia says 'war is over'" thats means you should ask your self with out google search what Constitutes "Millitary victory" by that i mean there is a dictionary defintion and the speific aims of party I.e to destroy the will exist E.g the aims of the ethiopian government was to destroy the eritrean state abit like what iran wants to isreal the only difference is that BBC will never publish thats because it has been and remains to PRO ethiopian news agency and if you do some research about two BBC repoters jonah fissher and martin plaut they untrusted amoung the vast majority of eritrean world wide.

The comment you made about "absolute commitment" statement comes off as a threat to intentionally disrupt Wikipedia and could lead to a permanent block.

I see as that threat as discrimination similar to Joseph Goebbels its very sad that you have tried to "shut me up" it wont work your methods of control aka in your language as "Intentionally disrupt Wikipedia" is an attempt to circumvent the reality that you dont like other pieces of information .

The challenge your pro - ethipioan view just like (jonah fissher and martin plaut.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Theapple12 (talkcontribs) 18:26, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

I just had to respond to the above nonsense. It said "the aims of the ethiopian government was to destroy the eritrean state abit like what iran wants to isreal." Are you crazy? The current Ethiopian government is a traitor government. The Meles Zenawi (half-Eritrean) fake "ethiopian" government is hated by almost all Ethiopians because he favors Eritrea over Ethiopia. If Meles truly likes Ethiopia, he would have never told the Ethiopian victorious forces who captured barentu to stop. If he wanted to destroy eritrea he would have never told the ethiopian troops to stop going deeper and to Asmara. Meles is a traitor. Can you believe an Ethiopian leader telling Ethiopian forces to give mercy to the Enemy?? This is why dictator meles is hated by most ethiopians! Forget about "destroying the eritrean state" because meles zenawi likes Eritrea more than Ethiopia. He is trying to destroy Ethiopia! All of us hate him and we hate all of his anti-ethiopia traitors with all our hearts! Don't make us laugh by saying meles zenawi wants to destroy eritrea. he likes eritrea more than ethiopia. he is the worst ethiopian leader in ethiopian history!! ethionet 23:52, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Might as well chime in here and state, for the record, that I have no love for Meles Zenawi, Isaias Afwerki, nor any other current politician. But this type of discussion is better suited for some forum, not Wikipedia. -- Gyrofrog 14:56, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

In reply - 3 Edits - Aug 09. 07

For the attention of Gyrofrog:

I appreciate your comments regarding the edits. As I noticed, you have a special interest in Ethiopia. The comments absolutely do have a source and in the interests of verification:

1) You will notice that the article states the discovery to be in the early 2000's. This has been spread elsewhere by the archaeologists, and if you will pardon me, a regurgitated press release by them is hardly a reliable source.

The "discovery" occurred centuries ago, The Ministry of Tourism will verify that with archive footage as does the British Library Archive:

a) 1 : 125,000 Somaliland Protectorate. Geological Survey. D.C.S. 1076. (1956)

b) A Woman’s Pleasure Trip in Somaliland ... Illustrated by sixty-one photographs ... and by a sketch map of the district round Berbera. Frances Swayne. (1907)

c) A Soldier’s Shikar Trips ... With photographs of Somaliland [and portraits], etc. Henry Germain Mainwaring. (1920).

There are several more British Library Sources that cite the finding as well. Which makes that section of the article false in it's claim. I would appreciate your examining this and rectifying the matter as you thoroughly did before the knowledge of the sources.

2) As for the history lesson in the latter part of the section, I understand that both versions of history have occurred alongside each other for sometime and if you choose that version, I suppose that is up to you as a moderator. In reference to one of your comments on subjectivity, I do find the highly subjective and inaccurate "Overlord" article comment rather impudent and more worthy of a SCIFI description rather than a correct attribution to historical fact.

3) As for my amendment to Ms. H's contribution - the comments were true and an explanation of how her actions have influenced parts of our culture today - reflecting limelight to help others - something that you are probably aware, has become very prevalent. If you feel they are partly subjective, I concur. But she is a cultural icon and as much as you allow the comments on her being a "beauty and fashion icon", her influence and impact on women goes deeper:

a) "One thing that struck me about her, apart from her charm and elegance, was her ability to make herself loved and admired by women as well as men. Her image was unique. This is something that other great actresses have been unable to create for themselves." Givenchy

b) "Even during missions to the East or Africa - when practically rather than style was the issue - Audrey's simple outfits of line trousers, T-shirts and sneakers always looked splendid... Audrey's style came from within, from her deepest self, and was reflected in her whole attitude, in everything she did or said. It embodied the sincerity of her commitment to helping humanity and was devoid of self-indulgence and narcissism... The style Audrey cultivated was not one of many possible styles. It was the only one truly worthy the name. Its timeless appeal is not dependent on one particular garment or designer, but is intricately linked with the humanity of the wearer. Audrey Hepburn, of course, is not an icon to be worshipped. But she was an actress and a woman whose character earned her love, respect and esteem of everyone she came in contact with." Stefania Ricci

The above two points are also cited in- http://www.audrey1.com/fashion/index2.html

There is also - http://www.opendemocracy.net/democracy-africa_democracy/africa_celebrity_4024.jsp

Her influence is subjective rather than objective. It would be difficult for any comment describing this influence to appear otherwise regardless of the intention.

I hope the above helps on most of the points. If you need any further information, you can re-message.

Sincerely

Clarity123

Dabtaras

Hi Gyrofrog -- I just saw your post from June 2006 about a lack of information about dabteras/dabatars. I agree with you that Wikipedia needs to cover this religious office -- unique to Ethiopia -- better, but I've been bogged down with various challenges including accumulating enough material to write a useful article about them. However, I did make a little progress in filling this need -- perhaps you saw my contribution about perhaps the best known member of this group, Alaqa Gebre Hanna? I wish I could have responded to your request sooner. -- llywrch 05:13, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Speaking for myself, when I first encountered AGH, he reminded me of the native American personage Coyote. It is interesting that there is a whole category of tricksters popularized in folklore -- while I'm unsure whether AGH should be part of this category or not, he fits better there than as an example of the "oral sadistic" type Donald Levine argues for. -- llywrch 21:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
