Yeah just ignore it. I was pretty angry having my work thrown to the furnace. Especially when I wasn't seeing coherent reasons as to why. It was just a bunch of merge, merge merge per nom. It was annoying. Then I yapped way to much and any points I strove to make were lost on others. It was my fault. I should have been short and clear in my posts. The problem was figuring out a way to word it all in a clear manner. What is done is done. All abums are back in jazz albums now, whatever. I tried. (Mind meal 15:27, 10 July 2007 (UTC))

Plan to improve Somalia articles

Hi Gyrofrog
I (running the Somalia portal of the German language Wikipedia) am planning to improve the Somalia articles of the English language Wikipedia. The aim is to largely eradicate unsourced/POV statements (especially in articles about Somali clans...), to improve the quality and reliability of the articles – and, if possible, make good or featured articles.
As I have noticed that you have reverted vandalism and unsourced statements in Somalia-related articles several times, I'd like to ask you if you are interested to help me do this. (I'm not very familiar with the rules of the English Wikipedia, which are, in some ways, different from those of the German one. For example, I cannot understand why the Somalia article is not definitely semi-protected. In the German Wikipedia, the level of vandalism in this article would certainly justify a such protection.) Discography lists

Discography lists already exist when the need arises for them, that is already common practice. That doesn't seem to me to be the issue at hand. The issue at hand is WP:ALBUMS refusal to come up with a coherent way to categorize albums by genre. What else can be said. you don't like Category:Ornette Coleman free jazz albums. People don't like the moving title's proposal. It is a no win situation, even though a clear problem exists and WILL PERSIST. I have ceased making useful edits right now because currently I cannot do them. I hate the Category:Ornette Coleman free jazz albums method, because as you well know it is really tedious work. It shouldn't be that way. Incidentally, lists are often used as a reference for categories! That is the irony. What you are saying really is that something like Category:Jazz albums by genre shouldn't even exist. It needs to have albums in it to exist, and albums fall into those subgenres. They just do. All Music Guide would be a circus sideshow if they categorized musician albums the way we do, and ultimately would not be taken seriously in any way. I just keep getting this strong feeling that people are just not understanding this problem at all. I don't know if it is over their heads, too much reading to be done to comprehend it, inexperience with even dealing with subgenres. I don't know what it is. But currently WP:ALBUMS fails to offer editors a clear, simple way to categorize an album by a specific subgenre. That is not going to change with mere lists. (Mind meal 19:51, 13 July 2007 (UTC))

Ethiopiques !

Hi! Yes, the Ethiopiques were of course released in vinyls before, although it's now a new re-edition of them. But the article can't start saying it's something of the 1990s when it was already famous years before... I'll look for some more info on that, but all in all we're all saying the same thing - except that's it's a bit tough giving Buda Musique all the credit for something that's going on for twenty years, if you know what I mean! For God's sake, please stop lecturing me about how I am to compose myself. Enough is enough. Will you do that much for me? Do you have even that much respect for this user? I am PISSED OFF. NOTHING can get done in this regard. NOTHING. Why the **** would I not be angry? I created 42 subcategories that all will be subject to deletion after this new merger. I created new categories like Category:John Coltrane hard bop albums because I thought finally at least there was a way to categorize albums by subgenre. Now THAT cannot be done. And all the while, everyone is so cool and collected because they don't give a **** about the topic. To alot of you, it's all "Jazz". All jazz to you folks. Piedmont blues/Mance Lipscomb

Hi! I'm curious as to why Mance Lipscomb was singled out in the Piedmont blues article for not having a proper citation. Granted, all the musicians should have a reference for inclusion in this article, but why was Lipscomb the only one removed? Peace & plenty. --buck 21:32, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

No, not at all--at least I didn't take it as such. :) Lipscomb's blues recordings incorporated and built upon the Piedmont style of finger-picking, which originated in the Piedmont region of the US. Several other Piedmont musicians mentioned in that article hailed from outside the region. Sort of like not having to go to Kansas City to get Kansas City-style barbecue (though I wouldn't dare assume the same about Texas-style!). Peace. --buck 03:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I think that the figures in some cases have been inflated. I just found the New Zealand figure before I left the house and it appears to be about 1,700-1,900 and not 14,345. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 21:51, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

the cover artwork on the lp brian jones presents the pipes of pan at joujouka is by Mohamed hamri . hamri was the promoter of master musicians of joujouka as i can see from 50s to his death in 2000 so certainly fair use. Hi if you are one of those interested in Somali politics and land. Please know the reality. I take the tip of using sources thank you very much. But I had to do alot of editing because the whole site was biased and did not report the truth about Sanaag. Learn more about Issaq , SNM , 1988 , 1991 . Issaq is the predominant clan of Sanaag and represent the majority. For the attention of Gyrofrog:

I appreciate your comments regarding the edits. As I noticed, you have a special interest in Ethiopia. The comments absolutely do have a source and in the interests of verification:

1) You will notice that the article states the discovery to be in the early 2000's. This has been spread elsewhere by the archaeologists, and if you will pardon me, a regurgitated press release by them is hardly a reliable source.

The "discovery" occurred centuries ago, The Ministry of Tourism will verify that with archive footage as does the British Library Archive:

a) 1 : 125,000 Somaliland Protectorate. Geological Survey. D.C.S. 1076. (1956)

b) A Woman’s Pleasure Trip in Somaliland ... Illustrated by sixty-one photographs ... and by a sketch map of the district round Berbera. Frances Swayne. (1907)

c) A Soldier’s Shikar Trips ... With photographs of Somaliland [and portraits], etc. Henry Germain Mainwaring. (1920).

There are several more British Library Sources that cite the finding as well. Which makes that section of the article false in it's claim. I would appreciate your examining this and rectifying the matter as you thoroughly did before the knowledge of the sources.

2) As for the history lesson in the latter part of the section, I understand that both versions of history have occurred alongside each other for sometime and if you choose that version, I suppose that is up to you as a moderator. In reference to one of your comments on subjectivity, I do find the highly subjective and inaccurate "Overlord" article comment rather impudent and more worthy of a SCIFI description rather than a correct attribution to historical fact.

3) As for my amendment to Ms. H's contribution - the comments were true and an explanation of how her actions have influenced parts of our culture today - reflecting limelight to help others - something that you are probably aware, has become very prevalent. If you feel they are partly subjective, I concur. But she is a cultural icon and as much as you allow the comments on her being a "beauty and fashion icon", her influence and impact on women goes deeper:

a) "One thing that struck me about her, apart from her charm and elegance, was her ability to make herself loved and admired by women as well as men. Her image was unique. This is something that other great actresses have been unable to create for themselves." Givenchy

Hi Gyrofrog -- I just saw your post from June 2006 about a lack of information about dabteras/dabatars. I agree with you that Wikipedia needs to cover this religious office -- unique to Ethiopia -- better, but I've been bogged down with various challenges including accumulating enough material to write a useful article about them. However, I did make a little progress in filling this need -- perhaps you saw my contribution about perhaps the best known member of this group, Alaqa Gebre Hanna? Speaking for myself, when I first encountered AGH, he reminded me of the native American personage Coyote. It is interesting that there is a whole category of tricksters popularized in folklore -- while I'm unsure whether AGH should be part of this category or not, he fits better there than as an example of the "oral sadistic" type Donald Levine argues for. -- llywrch 21:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Abelelkrim. I've just removed here and here two of your comments re User:BKLisenbee as they are part of WP:HARRASS. Those comments got nothing to do w/ Wikipedia and are considered personal information totally unrelated and irrelevant to the encyclopaedia. Apart from that you and we have no knowledge if the information gotten from a blog (blogs are not acceptable as a source in wikipedia) concern the user in question. Makhir Map

If three guys decide to make a state they need to show formal references about that claim. I have seen a Paint made map that shows a state that does not exist in any book written in history. ironically there is no website for this state.
