@Kitchen Knife: in a word, no. Sorry. I don't know what the first or third are, and Greenpeace is a pressure group. A household name newspaper (not necessarily British) would be a better choice, a book or journal article from a reputable publisher even better. "Articles should be based on reliable, independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy"; this is especially important when dealing with living people and contemporary politics where the potential for harm is much higher. Request for Rollback rights!

Hi @HJ Mitchell, hope you are going good. I got to your talk page from this page here. Your name was a familiar one because it often pops up while I scout recent changes through Wikiloop Doublecheck. I take keen interest in fighting vandalism and keeping articles abuse-free, and I do so using Wikiloop and twinkle, which doesn't require any specific user right. But tools like Huggle & AntiVandal requires the Rollback rights, which I currently do not possess. I used to revert vandalism even before I created this account, so I have good knowledge of Wikipedia's policies on vandalism and reverting edits. Hi, a while back you kindly blocked 162.216.217.192 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) who was vandalizing multiple articles. This user is now evading their block at 174.213.160.3 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). The pattern of edits and articles edited makes this clear, eg this edit by 174 and this edit by 162 both inserting "mortally wounded" into the same article. Any chance you could take a look? Increasing Protection

kindly, the page Egyptians needs extended protection; same IP-User(s) are trying to spam and manipulate it again, opposing actual DNA sources. Thank you for blocking for five years +. All too often in cases like this some administrator blocks for some absurdly short period, apparently either not noticing or ignoring the fact that it's obvious that one person has been vandalising from the same IP address for years. @JBW: I thought you'd like that one. My usual 1001 days didn't seem long enough. So it's 2002 days! ;) I always block for short durations to start with but once we've established that the IP is static and the person behind it isn't taking the hint, the blocks get exponentially longer. I hadn't thought to work out how many days it was. I still haven't forgiven the technical people who years ago made it impossible for "1001 days" to display. As for the length of IP blocks, it seems to me that the substantial majority of the administrators who frequently patrol AIV are for some reason unable to grasp that the idea that you don't block IP addresses for a more than a short time to avoid collateral damage on innocent editors doesn't apply when there aren't any innocent bystanders because it's clearly the same person over a long period. In fact I get the clear impression that for many of them it doesn't even occur to them to check IP editing history to see whether it does look like the same person. On the other side of the coin, though, I remember Rexxxs once saying that in his opinion for all school IPs we should just block and "throw away the key". @JBW: I do understand the reticence to block IPs for extended periods but we shouldn't make our lives more difficult on the off chance that the IP might be reassigned and the recipient might decide to edit Wikipedia. I'll be honest, I rarely check the edit history beyond a few diffs but I'll rapidly escalate the block duration with each re-block. I sort of agree with Doug on school IPs, though I tend to leave account creation open if I'm blocking long-term; I have more tolerance for curious kids than I do for people who actively want to cause to trouble. No mistake in the school block by this administrator. I think if you look at the block notice, the edits you mention were just two of a subset of the larger set of edits by User:152.157.0.0/16, which is who Harry blocked. false accusations

Administrator, help me with my one important issue:

This person is the owner of several accounts, he introduced edit wars in the "Russian Wikipedia", and accused absolutely everyone of Vandalism. Communicated rudely with other users. Here are his accounts:

You blame people just because they have the same nicknames, it's just ridiculous. I have never had an edit war here, and I found a common language with Chechen users, in the same article "Nakh peoples" through the "discussion" section, I was able to come to an agreement and solve the problem together with another Chechen user.

To keep both sides happy, I've now included all relatives, which is hugely excessive and not the first things someone should see when visiting Dahl's page, but it's better than arguing about it. Thank you today for The Cenotaph, introduced: "This article is the culmination of a project I've been working on (on and off, with quite a few digressions!) for about six years, starting with Northampton War Memorial, which passed FAC back in 2016. It documents the history of what is easily Britain's most famous war memorial, and probably one of the most famous war memorials anywhere. It was never intended to be such. It started life in wood and plaster as one of a collection of monuments for the parade to celebrate the formal end of the First World War, but it caught the imagination of a public mourning the loss of an entire generation of men in a way that nothing before or since ever has. The industrial-scale slaughter had never been seen before, and most of the dead (or what was left of them) were buried overseas. People needed somewhere to grieve, and the Cenotaph gave them that. Request for permanent user rights

Hi @HJ Mitchell, hope you are doing good. Last month you granted me reviewer and rollbacker rights for a trial of 1 month. Well it is going to end next week and so I wanted to request that the rights be made permanent. Using the rollbacker right, I was able to revert vandalism much more quick and efficiently using AntiVandal and didn't run into any problems or disputes. Using the reviewer right, I was able to accept constructive pending changes and revert non constructive ones. It has been a smooth ride this month and I hope it will be so in the future. WP:ILLCON at WP:NCORP

I don't know what has happened in recent edits to this policy, but a section on illegal conduct as a basis for organizational notability has been part of WP:NCORP at least since 2013. Upon further review, the content you are seeking to remove on the apparent claim that it was added 15 days ago has actually been on the page for over ten years. You seem to have mistaken a recent talk page discussion proposing a modification of this language as having to do with the introduction of the language itself, but that occurred in 2012. Please feel free to contribute to the discussion proposing changes to the language. Obviously it is important to note on this page the signficance of reported illegal conduct of an organization with respect to the notability of such an organization. Look, I'm not trying to be a dick here, but you know very well that you can't just remove a decade-old entire paragraph from a guideline because you find it poorly written. This is a provision that has been referenced and linked in dozens of discussions over the past decade. Long-ago userfied article

I just came across User:Arxiloxos/Elisabeth Hagen while doing some wikignoming. You had userfied long ago (User talk:HJ Mitchell/Archive 28#Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elisabeth Hagen (2nd nomination)). User:Arxiloxos had made the one edit they mentioned at that time[1] but the article has had no activity since then and the editor has been inactive since March 2021. @DMacks: Not my area really and I don't remember an AfD from 12 years ago. I haven't closed an AfD in years! On a quick look, it looks like it might just about pass muster if it was moved to mainspace. There's certainly enough that I couldn't confidently predict the outcome of a new AfD, though I'm loathe to add yet another BLP to the pile that nobody is going to maintain. Yup, I don't know squat about this topic either. I blanked it as a BLP article that was consensus-delete at the time and now seems abandoned-draft.   • A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. @HelpingWorld: You have the right attitude. I just think you just need a bit more experience around deletion processes and notability discussions. I would expect a new page patroller to instinctively know that certain subjects will almost always survive an AfD (eg commissioned naval vessels). Their role is to triage. We need to be sure that they know what content is harmful and how to flag it for immediate removal, what's harmless but not notable, and what can be improved or should be left alone. Merges

Hey HJ, it's been a while! Hope you're well. Would you be able to perform two page/history merges for me? The first is User:JuneGloom07/Live to Emmerdale Live. User:Raintheone and I started work on our draft in 2012 and I think we both ended up forgetting about it. The last edit that wasn't maintenance related was in April 2014 [3]. A sock created the current Emmerdale Live article in 2017 and it has been edited by others since then, but our draft contains a lot of good info and sources.

The second request is for User:JuneGloom07/Pianoman to The Pianoman at Christmas. I created my draft in November 2020 and last edited it on 28 December 2020, while an IP removed the redirect in 2021 to create the article. I'm hoping to carry on my work, as I recently found all the info I gathered for it at the time. - JuneGloom07 Talk 20:26, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

You can copy the contents over, especially since your drafts are improvements on what's there already, you'd just lose the revision history from your userspace version. Most readers don't look at the history anyway but you could provide a link in your edit summary, like "see User:JuneGloom07/Pianoman for history". Baekje

This document still needs protection. Unlike Buyeo or Goguryeo documents, where Chinese vandalism is severe in English Wikipedia, Baekje is frequently attempted by Japanese people who are anti-Korean and far-right to revise the documents extensively.

It was protected in 2008 by an admin who is no longer active. I've been looking at a database report that lists articles under indefinite semi protection and removing some of the older protections if they don't seem necessary now. The Arbitration Committee has concluded the 2021-22 review of the contentious topics system (formerly known as discretionary sanctions), and its final decision is viewable at the revision process page. As part of the review process, the Arbitration Committee has resolved by motion that:

The above proposals that are supported by an absolute majority of unrecused active arbitrators are hereby enacted. The drafting arbitrators (CaptainEek, L235, and Wugapodes) are directed to take the actions necessary to bring the proposals enacted by this motion into effect, including by amending the procedures at WP:AC/P and WP:AC/DS. The authority granted to the drafting arbitrators by this motion expires one month after enactment.

The Arbitration Committee thanks all those who have participated in the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process and all who have helped bring it to a successful conclusion. This motion concludes the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process.

This motion initiates a one-month implementation period for the updates to the contentious topics system. The Arbitration Committee will announce when the initial implementation of the Committee's decision has concluded and the amendments made by the drafting arbitrators in accordance with the Committee's decision take effect. Any editors interested in the implementation process are invited to assist at the implementation talk page, and editors interested in updates may subscribe to the update list.
