September 2022[edit]

Information icon Hi Haggis MacHaggis! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Greg Van Avermaet that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Paulpat99 (talk) 06:56, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK, similar edits will be "major" in the future... Haggis MacHaggis (talk) 07:41, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers, I appreciate the edits you have done for the cycling articles. Thank you for your contributions Paulpat99 (talk) 09:06, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. These edits seem to be endless, though :o) Haggis MacHaggis (talk) 18:52, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for November 2[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited UEC European Track Championships – Men's omnium, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Danny Clark. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:03, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cycling Races[edit]

Thanks for making a multitude of articles for races which we didn't have any here. One common thing I see with your pages is you do not check the Wiki links go to the correct places. Such as the link I fixed for Eric McKenzie (cyclist) or the ones other users fixed. If you are copying straight from another language you could use your Sandbox to copy it to make edits and then publish the material. Just a comment nothing too serious. Otherwise keep up the good editing. Paulpat99 (talk) 21:37, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks, I'll bear it in mind. The pages are sometimes entered manually via copy/paste, since from a few languages the country flags are not converted properly. Haggis MacHaggis (talk) 20:28, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

May 2023[edit]

Hello, I'm @Spectrallights. I edited some of your edits to the Man Bites Dog article according to the Manual of style. Per MOS:MISC, Trivia sections with miscellaneous info should be avoided. The info in these lists can be incorporated into other parts of the article; for example, I put the part about Poelvoorde's relatives appearing in the film in the Production, or "making of" section (I also removed the part "Poelvoorde's mother was shocked to see her son behind bars, when she came to visit him in prison" because I could not find the verification for that in the source provided, furiouscinema.com). In addition, IMDb should be avoided as a source as it is not reliable, since much of its info is user-generated. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Spectrallights (talk) 15:55, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Haggis MacHaggis! Your additions to The Van Jets have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:07, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Marc Degryse-book cover.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Marc Degryse-book cover.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:56, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Michel Verschueren-book cover.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free book cover being used in a WP:DECORATIVE manner in Michel Verschueren#Honours. Non-free book covers are generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about the books they represent, but their use in other articles is generally only allowed when the book cover itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular book cover anywhere in the article which means there's really no loss of encyclopedic understand to the reader by not seeing it.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:02, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:KBVB-logo-1982-2019.svg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:KBVB-logo-1982-2019.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

Orphaned non-free image File:Adler-comics series.png[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Adler-comics series.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sandstein 09:09, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Kid Paddle-comics series.svg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kid Paddle-comics series.svg.

Thank you.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:De Geuzen-comic album 10.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:De Geuzen-comic album 10.jpg.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Standard layout and formatting of honours[edit]

Hi there, Haggis MacHaggis. Thanks for adding honours to footballers' articles. Going forward, please use the standard layout and formatting as outlined at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players which is the result of past discussions of the community of football editors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football. Specifically, there should no "Club", "International" etc. sub-headings. I've removed them at Erwin Kostedde and Roger Claessen . Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 18:44, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Harald Nickel-1979.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notice

The file File:Raymond van het Groenewoud-album 5 cover.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free album cover being used in a WP:DECORATIVE manner in Raymond van het Groenewoud#Discography which fails WP:NFCC#8. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident.

-- Marchjuly (talk) 13:13, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
