Elftor episodes

Hello. I've had to delete the article Elftor episodes as it doesn't meet the criteria for Wikipedia articles. Articles that are nothing more than external links are not allowed. Basically, what we want to do is provide information to our readers, not direct them elsewhere for the information. If you would like to write an article about the episodes, that would be great. Weebl and Bob episode guides

Actually it might not be such a great idea to write guides for each episode of Weebl and Bob, they might not go down too well at Votes for Deletion. It's hard to tell though. Also I think the transcipt is probably copyrighted, so you should try to paraphrase it and use only minimal direct quotes. Kappa 17:31, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Category:Stub

Hi Messedrocker - not sure why you decided to recreate category:stub as a redirect, but it's been speedy-deleted since cfd had already voted to remane and remove it. The only way things go into the category are via a template, so there's no chance of anything new being mistakely added to the old name, and it's easy enough for editors to update their bookmarks and watchlists. New users won't even know of the old name (which was incorrectly formed anyway), as it's not mentioned in any of the wikipages relating to stubs. So, unless there's some reason everyone's overlooked, can we leave it dead please? Grutness...wha? 05:15, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

There aren't any articles in the category - which is one of the reasons why it was deleted. The two you see there are "ghost" articles - they have bad names and can't be removed from the list, even though they're not in the category (don't ask me - I don't know why they're like that). As I said, though, every wiki page that used to talk about category:stub now points people to category:stubs, so I really don't see why you'd want it back. Grutness...wha? 14:38, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

How to transwiki an article

Our copyright (the GFDL), requires that a full record of authorship be maintained for each work. This means we must retain a log of the revisions for everything, including content sent to Wikibooks (re: How to solve the Rubik's Cube).

Please read over meta:Transwiki to get more familiar with the process. Also, a transwiki'd page is not a speedy deletion candidate, especially one like How to solve the Rubik's Cube, which has been here since 2002. -- Netoholic @ 7 July 2005 23:27 (UTC)

Username case sensitivity

Hi, thought you should be aware that Wikipedia is case-sensitive, which makes your user signature potentially confusing, since you sign with "MessedRocker" while your username is actually "Messedrocker". —Lowellian (reply) 08:44, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

You probably mistyped it, because registration preserves case-sensitivity. The best solution would be to change to a signature of "Messedrocker", but I guess since if anyone else registered "MessedRocker", they'd be accused of being a doppelganger account of you anyway, so if you want to, go ahead and redirect "MessedRocker" here. You might even register the MessedRocker account as well so that no one else ever gets it. —Lowellian (reply) 18:25, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Olympic rings image

I am not sure why you are changing the Images of the Olympic flag to the one you are; the colors on Image:Flag of the Olympic Movement.svg aren't remotely close to the real flag. Further, you should really have consensus before doing that. If you could please reply to this message with your reasoning, that'd be great.

P.S. Your AWB is doing something wrong because it's not adding "Image:" before the name of the image. THis causes the picture not to show up. Image speedy deletion

Hi there, I noticed you've tagged quite a number of images for speedy deletion under CSD:I1 that the image is redundant. However, unfortunately these taggings were not in order, as the other image you refer to is in each case on Wikimedia Commons. On WP:CSD, the criterion specifically states that this is not used for images now on Commons - {{nowCommons}} is used instead. Capitalisation at beginning of paragraphs and MessedRobot

Hello - I noticed that at least in the case of Book the Thirteenth, MessedRobot removed the capitalisation of a misspelled word at the beginning of a paragraph. A cursory glance at the edits by MessedRobot show that this has happened in a few other recent cases of althought->although, but not in every case. "Multiple personality" userbox?

I see you have worked on the userbox template for multiple personality disorder. If you check my user page, you will see that I cobbled together a "healthy multiple" userbox (actually a couple of them). This is for people that experience healthy multiplicity and don't find it's a problem to have several minds or personalities. How would I get this made official, or is it too small of a category? I know of only two other wikipedians that fit this description, but perhaps more would come out of the closet so to speak and employ the userbox if it were available. Okay, I got your message on how to propose the template, now I have another question. How does one... You see what I've done on my talk page, with the one I say I like better, where the letters in "plural" are all different colours? That's an important part of the concept, and I can't figure out how to create a standard userbox in which the colours can be changed that way. Perhaps a graphic should be used. Your bot also "corrected" List of common misspellings in English. However, 'seperate' is actually correct. The potential for error with automated spelling changes is high. I recommend that you do not automatically substitute spelling changes, but instead do it using AWB interactively. In fact, that's policy per Wikipedia:Bots. -- JLaTondre 21:45, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm JoeSmack, operator of User:JoeBot, a bot account that corrects misspellings. I've corrected several thousand misspellings, and I do them all user-supervised-bot-assisted and for good reason. There are many false positives that AWB will put in front of you; the human element keeps these errors from happening, or at least are reverted after seeing it go through by the operator. Updating image versions in Feature picture listings

Hi Messedrocker. I noticed your image updates at WP:FPT and WP:FPV, where you swapped the old png of the mad scientist FP for the new .svg version that was created during its recent delisting debate. Unfortunately, there's more to updating a Featured picture version than that: the {{Featured picture}} tag will need moving to the .svg version too, and if you are going to update WP:FPT and WP:FPV you should also update the main listing at WP:FP. You will have missed WP:FP because it only uses text links and so doesn't show up on the list of using pages at the image page. Finally, a link needs to be inserted in the new version to the previous version, or to its promotion debate in the WP:FPC archives. This is because editors sometimes insert pictures into the FP pages without going through the promotion process, and any picture with no link to its FPC debate is likely to be delisted on sight. It won't happen to this one because you changed the picture version in the FPC archives too, so the new verson is linked from them, but (sorry for piling on so many points) could you please leave the FPC archives alone when updating image versions? The debates there are about the original version of the image, not about the new one, and we do consult them fairly regularly, especially when an image is proposed for delisting (as this one was a month ago).

I am currently working on a couple of bots & a master plan to standardize all the Featured pictures (it's a big job). Before we can start changing versions in articles though, we have to get the listings across the three FP pages the same (I've already run scripts to find discrepancies between them and I have a list of about 60 examples of image versions being out of step), which is why I appeared here so fast when I saw you'd updated 2 FP pages but not the third.

I really wish we were far enough ahead in the process of correcting the FP listings to give you a list of versions that do want updating in all the main articles but that'll be a few weeks down the line yet! ~ Veledan • Talk 12:17, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Erm, yes that would fix it! I wasn't actually asking you to do all of that, I just wanted to make you aware of the issues. Basically, when mass fixing images, it would be best to either leave out the wikipedia-namespace FP pages, or to do all of the above so that it doesn't cause problem/confusion later. I (and other FPC regulars) have spent hours and hours during the last two months trying to find historic debates on various FP images prior to opening delisting debates, and occasionally it has been impossible to work out whether an image was promoted or not if the original has been orphaned and deleted, and a new picture has been uploaded with the same title. Hi; I went back and looked at Steve block's argument for deletion. I wish more people had seen my link to the part of WP:V that specifically deals with self-reference in citations about a subject. Yes I feel you are a good user and a good potential admin. The reason for my oppose vote that in addition to your lack of diversified contributions and experience (on WP), you seemed to limit your own role as an admin. I think you should be willing to work on any adminship-type task, and helping out your brother admins and young/other users on any issue. Also, an admin must behave responsibly and maintain the law in conflicts, or else who can ordinary users turn to for guidance and help? Please consider this. Thank you for Changing Voice Feminization

I joined Wikipedia yesterday and I started the article less than 24 hours ago. Since then a small fire has erupted (flame war), and instead of trying to put it out I am leaving.

The article is truly a stub at this point and I will never look at it again - so IMHO delete the article.

After reading AlexR's opionions of my abilities, it is obvious that I have no need to be creating content for wikipedia. I may be knowledgeable in the area of voice feminization, but knowledge is nothing compared to being Politically Correct and abusive. AlexR flamed - I leave.

I do not want guarantees that what I put out on Wikepedia will not be trashed by a vandal, but someone that has been adding content since at least 2004 and has had mediations but says "...goes for cis(wo)man. I don't give a bloody damn whether you are familiar with the term or not, or whehter you expect others to know it -- the explanation is just one click away... " is not something that I want to fight.

I am TransGendered ! And I didn't know what ciswoman meant, but I left it and added (Genetic Woman) after I looked it up. The additional comment was deleted and right now I do not even know weather it says ciswoman or what.

If you look at the history, you will see that I tried to focus on the article, and gave up because I was spending so much time mediating with AlexR. - I ended up deleting all of the discussion due to it being more of a flame than anything that was useful. Yes, I realize that it is still in the history.

I never posted on any message boards because I did not like the flames and abuse.

Since you were the one person that looked like and administrator, I sent you the message and I will leave the article alone for the time being.

I may pick it up in the future, but right now it is a stub at best.

Voice feminization is something that is starting to mainstream, and when I added that to the article, it was deleted without comment. Having to justify every utterance is not worth it. Especially when the person requiring me to justify them " ... [doesn't] give a bloody damn ..."

Oh, absolutely do whatever you want with it. I had completely forgotten about its existence, but I probably won't actually do anything with it anywhere. Feel free to move it, change it however you like -- I do think it could be useful, though there are some issues. Not all of those titles are necessarily standard, for example, and countries whose names have a "the" are broken -- "Culture of the Ukraine" vs "Culture of Ukraine" and "Geography of the Central African Republic" vs "Geography of Central African Republic". Random user asked me a question about vandalism and I'm not exactly sure what to do with it

Someone just put this on my userpage. I don't really know why, because I'm not an admin or even very active at all here. All that really ussually happens on my talk page is Cowicide complaing about his block on wikinews. I'm really not sure where exactly to put it. It doesn't sound like simple vandalism, but not really a content dspute, (well it kinda is, but its not against an entity who stays for any amount of time). I was hoping you could tell me who the proper notice page would be. (Isn't life easier on wikinews with just n:WN:ALERT?). Thanks.

Of late, there has been a spam of newly registered users and annoyomous users trying to remove certain data from the article. While most article cites general personal data on personalities in wikipedia on a neutral basis, these editors have been removing certain data without cause to suit their taste (see Wikipedia:NPOV). Such acts have been rampant since March 2006 (check the article's history), and such behaviour can be reflected as Wikipedia:Vandalism, and this article needs Semi-protection status against such crisis. Hello there, I was wondering if you would please modify your signature to conform to the guidelines laid out at Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages. The general guidelines are that signatures shouldn't contain images, they shouldn't contain unnecessary internal links or any external links, and they shouldn't be unnecessarily long in Wiki source. The reasoning for this final bit is that overly long signatures tend to overwhelm the actual comments in edit mode, making it hard to track down and respond to specific comments. You can fix your signature by removing any images and external links, any unnecessary links (like links to Wikipedian organizations, articles, or subpages in userspace), and removing excessive color, font, and formatting code. I stumbled upon your question: I think that 'sure, we can'. After all, it is those mirrors sites who should worry about respecting copyright and that would be affect by any legal trouble, not us. Fair use disputed

Hi Messedrocker. I just wanted to let you know that I've placed {{fairusedisputed}} on two images that you recently wrote fair use rationales for, Image:Curtis stone.jpg and Image:Cory-spinx.jpg. You can read my reasoning on the description pages.

I'd also like to encourage you to put more detail into your rationales. For example, the source on Image:ForemanGold.jpg is very likely not the original copyright holder, so the cookie-cutter claims about affecting its market value are not backed-up. For all we know, the image could be owned by a stock photo company. Best regards ×Meegs 16:55, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

The worst case, though, is that the subject dies or becomes otherwise inacessible during the period that we're using the unfree image; in that case we've lost the opportunity forever. I have seen many articles cycle through unfree image after unfree image before someone finally contributes a free one, but it does happen.

The free culture movement is growing quickly, as evidident in the explosion of CC-licensed images on fickr.com, so hopefully the situation will be getting better. On top of Wikipedians taking photographs, some people, including Jimbo, have had success asking people to freely license images of themselves. It's also possible to ask professional photographers (even paparazzi-types) to license their unpublished images of some less accessible people and locations. I think this process will start to take-off one of these days. After all, it's a great deal for them: they get an image that would otherwise be collecting dust published, and get attribution on one of the 20 biggest sites in the world. ×Meegs 04:48, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

That's a noble goal. It is slow work, whether you are contacting the subjects themselves, asking independent photographers, or stalking them with a camera. There's been a lot discussion at Wikipedia:Publicity photos during the last few weeks (quick summary: "publicity photos" are just as undesireable as other unfree photos). If you're looking for advice on this project, I'm sure the people there will have some. Wikipedia:Example requests for permission's watchers might also be interested in this kind of proactive campaign. If the project doesn't take off, at least make sure that you praise the hell out of anyone you come across that's uploading hard-to-get freely-licensed photos. Resolving a dispute

Hey, this is the dispute I would like help with: One Kansas City Place

and Talk:One Kansas City Place

This unknown IP address came on and changed some information on the building, claiming that Bank of America doesn't really have a large presence in the building, I didn't ever say he was wrong, I just told him he needs a verifiable source on this information. He kept re-editing it and finally said that he's been here longer than me, and accuracy is more important than having verifiable sources. here is a quote of his last reply on the article discussion:

Excuse me, KCMODevin, I know Wikipedia's rules very well, I've been here a lot longer than you... one of its fundamental principles is the search for truth. I'm not going to allow you to supplant my correct information with your incorrect information. The Emporis page has very, very little about the building. Nothing else on this article is cited, so what does it matter? If we went by your rationale, the entire article would have to be deleted. Just go there and look for yourself. Would you like me to take a picture of the 1KCPl video directory? I live and work downtown, and know plenty about all this. The building's largest tenants are Bryan Cave (one of the 50 largest law firms in the US, based out of St. Louis) and Ernst & Young (an accounting firm). Both occupy multiple floors in the tower. I forgot to mention he also tried to reorder the images because his were "prettier" than mine... (at first, he removed mine from the page) I had to explain to him that the images were ordered like that because if they weren't, the text itself would have un-needed spaces/blanks and wouldn't be properly aligned.

I'm not saying his information is incorrect, but when he edits information on the building without sources, I have to edit it back. I am actually somewhat offended by some of his comments that seem to belittle me because I apparently haven't been here as long as he has... I need help getting this dispute resolved.

Hi Messedrocker. I'm sorry to say that I've disputed another of your fair use rationales, Image:MileyCyrus.JPG. It may have problems with FUC#1 as the previous two, but I've written only about problems stemming from its uncertain source.
