Your submission at Articles for creation: Aïssa Aggoune (November 2)[edit]

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Johannes Maximilian was:  The comment the reviewer left was:
Hi Johannes, Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
I just made the modifications you suggested, i removed the one article which was referred to twice as a footnote and provided over 30 additional content showing notability, most remarkable: The subject being received twice by the Minister of housing to tackle the housing crisis, numerous interviews covering the subject representing tenants in the supreme court and winning despite not being a lawyer, as well as the wikipedia article which already exists for the past few years and mentions the subject by name Aissa Aggoune. I also added the VTU website confirming the subject sits on the steering committee of the Union.
I hope you will be satisfied with these changes and will move the article as accepted!
Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season! Henry.precheur (talk) 18:48, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Theroadislong, would you please help me get the article accepted ? i am not sure i understand why this keeps on getting declined despite all the links i provided? thank you and merry christmas to you and yours ! Henry.precheur (talk) 18:16, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not at all clear how they are notable? They are just someone doing their job. Theroadislong (talk) 19:33, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Theroadislong,
This is where the confusion resides: this is not his job. The union is operated 100% from volunteers, you can see this on the union's website and its also confirmed on their Wikipedia page. None of the volunteers get paid for the work they do to help the citizens suffering from the housing crisis in Canada.
This individual has represented more than 500 tenants in court for free, he has faced numerous lawyers in court and won all the cases, yet he is just a renter who learned the laws and judicial processes to defend those who can not afford a lawyer. Aissa Aggoune has defended families with children who were getting evicted during the winter and won for them so they could stay in their home. If you listen to the radio interviews he gave, he cites specific cases he has defended and how renters can defend themselves from being evicted using the law and their rights under the Act.
He has met with the Minister of housing which eventually led to amended legislations and closed off loopholes to protect the most vulnerable families in the community. He is literally a john doe turned hero in the community by defending hundreds of families from eviction and educating the population suffering during the housing crisis in Canada. Hi @Theroadislong Happy New Year, I hope you had a great start of 2024!
I am just following up from my above message to clarify that the subject is not doing just doing his job, in fact, he is not a lawyer and this is not a job but 100% volunteer work to help the most vulnerable in the community. Most importantly, the subject is NOT a lawyer and yet is winning numerous Court cases against teams of lawyers of a multi billionaire ( Mr Lalji )
Please see the below link from the Supreme Court Website confirming Mr Aggoune is a lay litigant representing over 200 families in this case and winning against a very powerful team of lawyers.
Feel free to read the below paragraphs of the decision if you don't want to read the entire 20 pages of legal jargon:
Paragraph [41] I find Maple Leaf was guilty of wilful default in failing to appear at the hearing of the petition.
Paragraph [54] (...) that does not explain why Mr. Lalji would have ignored the email from Supreme Court Scheduling notifying the parties that the costs hearing scheduled for April 23, 2020 had been adjourned
Paragraph [55] (...) I find that it learned of it, or ought to have done so, on December 23, 2019, when Mr. Aggoune emailed Mr. Lalji and forwarded him a copy of the Order. Both Mr. Lalji and Ms. Spooner were clearly advised of the Order on February 3, 2020. So even if Mr. Lalji paid no attention to Mr. Aggoune’s emails, Ms. Spooner knew about the Order at least by February 3, 2020
Paragraph [57] I find that Maple Leaf did not act as soon as reasonably possible to set aside the Order.
Paragraph [64] (...) Similarly, after the judicial review hearing, Mr. Aggoune repeatedly communicated with Mr. Lalji and Ms. Spooner to advise them of the Order and to seek to deal with his draft bill of costs...
Paragraph [68] In my view, this application was misconceived and ought not to have been brought. There were significant gaps in the affidavit evidence filed by Maple Leaf, perhaps most obviously the lack of any evidence as to when they learned of the Order or why they failed to file this application until September 2, 2020. Mr. Aggoune is entitled to his costs of this application forthwith in any event of the cause.
This is the link of the BC Supreme Court where you can search for juridical decisions as it is public domaine:

I hope this will suffice to convince you that he is not a lawyer and he is not doing his job, but rather, Mr Aggoune is extremely notable in Vancouver and in BC for being self-taught advocate representing tenants in class action lawsuits in numerous buildings in Canada.
Have a great day and an even better weekend!

And i forgot to mention that he represents all of these tenants for free, never charging them any money to defend their case in courts against experienced lawyers.
That is also what demarks him and makes him notable. : ) Henry.precheur (talk) 00:55, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
