Women's Ice Hockey Task Force Newsletter: October 2020

Hello WHOCKEY editors!

The Women's Football/Soccer Task Force uses periodic newsletters to keep its members looped in on task force happenings and adopting the practice may serve useful for WP:WHOCKEY – let’s give it a try! If you have any feedback or ideas regarding the WP:WHOCKEY newsletter, please post on the news talk page. This newsletter is sourced and minimally altered from the WOSO April 2018 newsletter created by our own Hmlarson.

Drawing further inspiration from WP:WOSO, work has begun on a few initiatives that will emphasize making more WHOCKEY links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles. The hope is that the initiatives will make it easier for editors to find the pages and topics of most interest to them.

Initiative pages are currently in the works and will be fully functional by the second week of the month. If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, once the initiatives are up and running, you’ll be able to sign up on an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles. If there is a subject that you feel ought to have an initiative of it’s own, creating your own initiative is welcomed and encouraged.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NHOCKEY (which only includes players on women's national teams at the highest tier of IIHF competition)? Often times there is enough media coverage to meet WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. Be sure to tag the task force on the talk page of new articles with: {{WikiProject Women's sport|icehockey=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
This is the last month of the AUG-SEP-OCT spotlight on Diversity in Women's Ice Hockey

During the spotlight on diversity, editors are encouraged to celebrate the array of identities represented within the sport by improving or creating bio pages for ice hockey people of various cultures, ethnicities, heritages, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, and other diverse characteristics.

Next month kicks off the NOV-DEC-JAN spotlight on Collegiate Leagues!

Hi IP and welcome to Wikipedia. Firstly, thank you for acknolwedging our confict of interest policies and guideliens and declaring your paid status. However, the article is still overtly promotional (ie. Fashion freak Sharon is a team player; someone anybody can accommodate and she can also accommodate anybody) and I cannot see this ever being accepted to mainspace. my edit

The reason I edited this page was, it had misinformation about Warren National university. As a professional in IT industry for 24 years, I obtained my degree from Warren National University. It took nearly 8 years to get this degree. The college courses I went through were similar to comparable accredited institutions. I know of many others in my field who have obtained degree from here. It is incorrect to call it a diploma mill. This is the reason I removed it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikicorrect1232 (talkcontribs) 19:30, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

I just wanted to come back and say that I used your first review as a "checklist" of sorts to work on the article. I added in most of the news clippings you left for me (thank you so much for those)! If you can it would be great if you found some more from Newspaper.com, I only have access to the Newspaper Archive and it wasn't very helpful. Otherwise, I think that I have made a vast improvement and I was wondering what you thought? Thanks for the help, Andrew nyr (talk, contribs) 20:03, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Andrew_nyr, I agree that there has been significant improvement, especially in the history section. I do wish for there to be more meat on sentences (like the Ronald McDonald house) but you're on the right track. Regarding Newspapers.com is there a specific topic or year you wish for me to search? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:20, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
@HickoryOughtShirt?4: Thank you! I am mainly trying to find more information on the topic of "North and south additions to the original building were added in the 1950 and 1957, respectively" and "In 1986 a new tower called the "Main Tower" was opened at the hospital.[8] The addition consisted of ten floors, 210 patient beds, and cost $92 million." I cant find much information about the opening of these additions. After I add more history and more to the Ronald McDonald section I will probably ask you to review again for GA. Or renom? I don't know I am new at GA noms. Thanks, Andrew nyr (talk, contribs) 21:24, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
Andrew nyr, For sure I can try and find some information for you. What's going to happen after you believe you've addressed all of my concerns, is that you'll ping me on the review page. I will either then add some more concerns or pass it. We only renominate it when requesting a second opinion. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:31, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

As I stated when I rejected it This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). I see that you created a wikipedia page about Kristy Holtfreter. She does not want a wikipedia page. Could you please delete the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Splishsplashsplosh (talkcontribs) 16:27, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

Splishsplashsplosh Whether a person wants a Wikipedia article or not is not relevant to its existence, as Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state. If you want to argue that Kristy Holtfreter does not meet the Wikipedia definition of a a notable academic, then there can be a community discussion about that. 331dot (talk) 18:41, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
Thank you 331dot. Similar to what I posted at BLPN [2], Splishsplashsplosh was deemed notable per Google Scholar and being the Editor-In-Chief of a major journal. Of course, I am willing to go through AfD but I am not sure if you will be pleased with the results. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:26, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
