How do you spell out 鼠麴粿 or 草仔粿 in POJ, is it "cu kak ge/ cao-á ge"? You seem to have a lot of knowledge in POJ and I hope you can help 132.206.178.40 (talk) 22:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

chhú-khak-ké. chháu-á-ké. also possible: ké -> kóe. The kh, ph, th are the hard unvoiced aspirated consonants (like k, p, t in English). The b and g initials are reserved for voiced unaspirated. Hongthay (talk) 03:45, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Sanxia, Taiwan

Look, bloke. I just re-edited the "Sanxia" page that you saw fit to undo last time I made a change there. How in the hell do you come up with the idea that "Sanxia", which has the very logical and ordinary derivation of being "three" (san) and "river valley" (xia), is actually derived from some Spanish name of "Santo Domingo"?!?!?! As opposed to, say, the three fairly large rivers that flow through the region? Not only aren't they ANYTHING alike, but the bloody Taiwanese aren't going to name any damn thing after something foreign. You HAVE lived there, right? You DO know all about Chinese nationalistic and linguistic pride, don't you? You DO realize that they're about as likely to name their town after something Spanish as they are to allow "foreign monkeys" ("adogah" in Taiwanese) to immigrate en masse, right?

Hello. I noticed that, on Taipei Basin and Taipei, you've recently edited the traditional Chinese characters for Taipei, changing from "台" to "臺". In one of your edit summaries, you claimed that "臺 is encouraged by MoE. details at Wiktionary." I could not find any details on this at Wiktionary. The usage note at 臺北 states: Although use of the full traditional form of 臺 is encouraged by the ROC Ministry of Education,[1] the simplified form 台北 is now more common than 臺北 in Taiwan and areas where traditional Chinese is normally used. Hi Hongthay, I'm hoping you can help on an article ... Yesterday, I tried to start a page on Brian Hioe, one of the founding editors of New Bloom Magazine. Unfortunately it's already been nominated for WP:AfD due to insufficient WP:Notability. Can you think of any ways to save it ...? Perhaps Hioe has a WP page on Chinese Wikipedia, or other language sources, which could be translated across into English. Unfortunately, I can't read or speak Chinese, so am at a bit of a loss. If we include Cantonese then why don't we include all Sinitic varieties (Wu, Minnan, Hakka, Jin, Teochew, Xiang, Ping etc)?

That is why it should be in Standard Chinese only.
