A tag has been placed on File:Backblaze storage partially assembled.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. categories[edit]

I'm not entirely clear why you are adding categories (empty ones at that) to my talk page, so I've undone the edit. I'm assuming it's a new editor error, but if not, please discuss with me Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:26, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Backblaze[edit]

This is a tricky one. The linked text is apparently releasing the design as public domain, but the phrasing does not make it clear that the the image was copyright free. It would have been better if the whole page had been tagged explicitly as public domain, since the assumption is that copyright exists unless specifically relinquished. I'm not sure quite what to do about this. Unlike text, I can't retrieve the deleted image, so you would have to upload it again. You could try the following

  • Can the page author be approached to put an explicit public domain tag at the bottom of his page?
  • or to donate copyrighted imagest to Wikipedia, as described here. Note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
  • Or you could upload again, extending your reason thus. Although the page is not tagged as PD, the author stated in the relevant article linked above: "We offer our storage pod design free of any licensing or any future claims of ownership. Anybody is allowed to use and improve upon it. You may build your own cloud system and use the Backblaze storage pod as part of your solution. The steps to assemble a storage pod, including diagrams, can be found on our original blog post, and an updated list of parts is provided below in Appendix A." — the image is part of the design and becomes public domain.

I can't guaranteed that the last will work, but it's worth a try Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:52, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
