It is my honour to inform your majesty the king of Wikipedia that the extent of my edit was the lilipucian correction of the placement of an apostrophe. Had your majesty ever learned the particulars of the english language or taken the time to observe what my humble personage had changed you would have noticed the minimal correction I have made. Furthermore I had clicked the box marking my edit as a minor one and had described it as a typo with the aim of not shaming the uneducated fool who had made such an elementary mistake. (I am starting to think it was you)

I bid your majesty good evening.

Your ever humble and obedient servant,

George, Lord Jeffreys

You might like to review Apostrophe#Singular_nouns_ending_with_an_"s"_or_"z"_sound before calling the construction "St James's" an "elementary mistake". I guess you lack familiarity with British English, in which such a construction is both correct and extremely common - for example St James's Palace. By the way, you used the wrong apostrophe (" ‘ " rather than " ' "). Regards, MichaelMaggs (talk) 17:44, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

First of all I must address the fact that the common usage of a term or grammatical form in no way makes it a rule (it merely proves that too great a part of the population lack proper education or understanding), secondly the use of an apostrophe as I implemented it is equally a rule for proper nouns and was therefore justified (St James’s Palace is a form established by long-standing convention and therefore in no way a rule in itself). I must also mention that I have exclusively attended British Institutions of elementary as well as higher learning and that therefore my understanding of British english, as opposed to that of other countries, is irreproachable. For the usage of the wrong type of apostrophe I must apologise (though I used a foreign keyboard by accident in which this was the only choice). Lastly, none of this is in any way relevant to the fact that my edit was merely the amending of a grammatical error and that I ticked the box marked “minor edit” which is clearly defined as the correction of spelling, grammatical or typographic errors… Therefore your asking me to specify the change I made was unjustified.

Ever kind regards, H.R.
