Edit Summary Request[edit]

I have noted that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky or even vandalizing. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! -- Kukini 19:34, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Somewhat belated welcome and query[edit]

As a member of WP:Wc, feel free to contact me for any assistance you may require in your wikipedia begining. But I have a question for you on this edit — what more do you know about the area and the run. And are you local, or just put two and two together (that's somewhat a specialized distinction you made).

There are several facts I would like to have checked in the article as I rewrote it last week, and I haven't had time (To start) to locate someone in the Swiss, Italian, or Austrian wikiprojects who may be able to confirm a few things easily being somewhat local.

Just as an example, I infer from club literature that the track is never used for bobsledding, and wrote it that way. It may not be used for luge practicing either. Then again, there is some distinction made between skeleton and cresta EQUIPMENT, or that may be a myth. Others also make 'cresta' into the name of a seperate sport, which I suspect is more a colloquialism, or club-term than a use widely observed world wide. I have established that skeleton, luge and bobsled use the same track, ideally holding 15-17 turns as defined for the various associations and the international olympic committee. So the questions devolve to why hasn't the SMTC evolved their run to follow suit, and such related matters. Apparently, they are content to have their ten turn track as a seperate 'sport' very related to 'skeleton', but not compliant with the olympics grade event of that name. Thanks for your time. // FrankB 14:44, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

July 2008[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to John Harrison has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. — Insanity Incarnate 21:41, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Message to Isanity Incarnate: I do not understand your objection to my adding a reference to the "recent history" section of the article : John Harrison , none of the other books cited cover the recent history of the Harrison clocks, and the Book by Jonathan Betts is considered the ;leading scholarly work describing the restoraution of the machines in the second quarter of the 20th century.I believe I did add a edit summary explaining what I did , please clarify.

I am a bit unexperienced in using the format tools for references and may have inadvertently saved a less than final version at one time. July 5, 22.26 Horology (talk) 22:27, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Zytglogge[edit]

Hello, and thanks for contributing your image to the Zytglogge article! (I live in Berne, but never got around to actually taking part in a tour and shooting photos of the interior.) You might want to consider uploading any future images to the Wikimedia Commons, though. This would allow every version of Wikipedia to use them in their articles, not just the English language Wikipedia. Best,  Sandstein  22:21, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So as not to overload the Zytglogge article with images, I've moved the Brunner nameplate photo to Kaspar Brunner, where I think it is more appropriate. If you move your images to the Commons and place them in the Zytglogge category, they will be visible through the gallery link at the bottom as well. Thanks again,  Sandstein  22:37, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have spent an hour trying to move the image to the commons but have not succeeded. In the process I discovered that several of my photos I had put on the commons months ago were deleted weeks ago because I made some mistake in choosing the

license. I know alot about clocks and clockmaking and have tried to contribute to many related site but I find many of the processes most confusing for a casual user who only occasionally is willing to spend an hour to contribute his expertise. Horology (talk) 00:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:2006-AHS-D-Mindelh- Fuessen -crop.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:2006-AHS-D-Mindelh- Fuessen -crop.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:26, 24 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mentorenübernahme in deutscher Wikipedia[edit]

Photographs[edit]

Hello Horology, I have uploaded a lot of photographs regarding cocks, clockworks and horology to Wiki-Commons. As you say you publish a lot in English Wikipedia, maybe some of these photographes are useful. If you like, you can find them on the page http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProjekt_Uhren . Deutsches Uhrenmuseum Glashütte[edit]

Hallo Fortunat,
