Request For Rollback

Hi. I've fullfilled your request for rollback. Please remember only to use it for obcious vandalism. Any queries please see WP:RBK or hit me up on my talk! Pedro :  Chat  09:34, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Howard. Regarding with this comment, please be a bit more nice despite Floro's "shortcomings". Cheers! --Efe (talk) 07:11, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I tersely replied to this point here.[1]--Florentino floro (talk) 07:18, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm tired already of his shortcomings. At least with that comment he'll think twice on expounding a lenghtly dissertation about dwarfs. --Howard the Duck 07:13, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
I understand. But if he is not listening, you can call someone's attention, preferably a sysop. =) --Efe (talk) 07:15, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Even sysops don't know how to deal with him, IMHO. The only way they'll do action is if he does really blatant violation (COPYVIO/3RR/etc). --Howard the Duck 07:17, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Uhm, there should be a right action here in Wiki for this kind of attitude. --Efe (talk) 07:24, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Take a look at the user talk page of the one if the intervening admins (I forgot who), it seems he doesn't know what to do. --Howard the Duck 07:32, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
I believe this is what you're talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Diligent_Terrier/Florentino_floro_and_Maxschmelling but Floro's own talk page is also required reading for the sheer absurdity of it. --Migs (talk) 08:27, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

If ever you catch him doing something that warrants a block, please tell me. ;D TheCoffee (talk) 08:18, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I caught him editing Wikipedia --Migs (talk) 08:27, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
As fellow editor, can you please be specific? What rule had I violated? You caught me editing Wikipedia? Wikipedia is edited by all contributors, so what is your accusation? Please reply?--Florentino floro (talk) 07:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
If ever you catch him doing something that warrants a block Hey, that's bad Coffee. To Floro, please stop doing what others believed to be unhelpful for the project. I mean, that pasting of stuffs in the talk page...para lubayan ka na nila. Cheers. --Efe (talk) 07:24, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Well if anyone does something that warrants a block, I'm going to enforce the rules and block them. That's the way it should be done, there's nothing wrong with that and I stand by my post. TheCoffee (talk) 07:53, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, you can stand by it. Its just that a lot of eyes are waiting for Floro to commit mistake then block. =) --Efe (talk) 07:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
As I said, I already decided in the time being to put in my email as back up instead, all my daily edits, instead. And I submitted in the meantime the query on the help desk. --Florentino floro (talk) 09:06, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Reply

Since Diligent Terrier adopted me and retired (due to resignation of my former adopting parent IanLopez, who emailed me of his predicaments), the dispute resolution sandbox created by Terrier, gave me and Max including Migs all the opportunities to air our sides in the light of Wiki rules, policies and guidelines. From that time, I kept silent and never posted anything about dwarfs on talk pages. Hence, why should I and the word dwarf be put in this talk page. It is tantamount to personal attack which is abhorred by Wiki policy. In fact I am very careful to write about Jesus etc. since there are also atheists which I respect. But dwarf is part of the treasure of our Filipino and other modern [[cultures]. It is more than and other than religion. TheCoffee had messaged me on putting or pasting stuff on talk pages, and I submitted my proposals. But there was no rejoinder or reply. Now, I received another but same suggestion from Duck, and I replied: I referred the matter of policy on the Help desk. But I state herein and in the other talk page that UNTIL I receive any reply, from TODAY, I will not for the time being put in the talk pages of articles my edits, but I will bear the BURDEN of preserving all my edits daily in my email as back up for future use or edit because of other IP vandalism or other wrong edits. --Florentino floro (talk) 07:18, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Notice

Please be notified that I asked the help and adoption of 2 administrators, to mediate on this problem, and I notified administrator User talk:TheCoffee of my request to be enlightened on the accusations against me so that I can justly and fairly defend myself and air my side before I am blocked, in the light of Wikipedia rules and guidelines or policies. :User talk:Rkitko - [2] User talk:FisherQueen[3] -Please adopt me, help me: Due process in Wiki and Request for adoption. --Florentino floro (talk) 08:07, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

You don't have to keep a log of what you do. That is what the history tab is for. Anyone can find what you've done rather easily, so no sense of copying the same thing at talk pages. --Howard the Duck 08:51, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Precisely, I decided today, to close this controversy of copy pasting stuff, that, in the meantime, while my query in the help desk is not yet replied to, I will back up in my email, all my daily edits. I am happy that in Manny Pacquiao, all my edits which were deleted or amended, were now, fully restored as important, especially the $ 3 million prize[4] --Florentino floro (talk) 09:02, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
You really don't need to do that since the history page will show your edits. It is accessible for everybody. --Howard the Duck 09:03, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
But I am not so familiar with the usages here, as newcommer, there is nothing wrong, except heavy burden, with backing up all my edits in my email, instead. Anyway, all my articles created, do have backups in my email, in case of vandalism and wrong edits. For me, it is hard to rely on history tabs, better for me, to have email back up of all my edits.--Florentino floro (talk) 09:09, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I don't think you can still be considered a newcomer; if you don't know how to use history tabs, try the "my contributions" link -- if the sole reason of copy-pasting is to keep a record of your edits, it is not a good idea to do that since it is not within the talk page guidelines and can make other editors annoyed. --Howard the Duck 09:15, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I know how to use history and contributions including my preferences tabs. The advantage of having a record of original edits via email is to have a protection against IP anonymous users who vandalize. How can editors be annoyed if edits are stored in emails? It is not in accordance with logic.--Florentino floro (talk) 09:22, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
No. Editors are annoyed if they see what you've edited at the article page on the talk page. As for the "advantage", vandalism is easily reverted. --Howard the Duck 09:31, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I understand. The rules state that talk pages can be used for proposal and discussion, but they are silent on copy pasting. That is why The Coffee asked me to explain. So, as I said, from today, until my query is replied by help desk, I will close this issue, by not anymore pasting my edits in the talk pages.--Florentino floro (talk) 09:53, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Maybe because nobody copy-pastes? --Howard the Duck 09:55, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree. I, and only I did so, as I stated, but only, from the time Max edited most of my hard worked contributions. But I read first the rules, and they are silent on this. --Florentino floro (talk) 10:31, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Isn't the annoyance of many enough reason to stop doing it even though the rules are silent, probably because it wasn't done before, at least chronically? --Howard the Duck 11:24, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Annoyance? I could not find it in the rules after 30 minutes reading. Also, I was belatedly alerted by The Coffee on this style and I replied promptly, with full explanation of the advantages. I cannot comprehend your use of the word "annoyance". At any rate, no editor but you informed me of such annoyance. Had you alerted me before, I could have dropped you my advise, unlike now, with laches stepping in, it's late in the day. It is for you that I decided to ask the help desk to reply on this issue, to make Wiki a better placer against IP anonymous users vandals. What if my style is affirmatively adopted by Wiki policies?--Florentino floro (talk) 11:47, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
The fact that two different people notified you means you should at least stop until someone tells you it is OK. --Howard the Duck 11:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
The coffee sent me the message and I was waiting for his reply. That was one. Now, today, this was the second. Following your major premise, I logically referred this to the help desk, and stated that, until I receive a reply, I will instead keep and post in my email my edits. Noted.--Florentino floro (talk) 12:32, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I think it's the second time I told you on this matter. --Howard the Duck 13:17, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Don't worry, aside from now (and on) putting in my email my daily edits, I posted the template adoption in my page and requesting a) admin Fisher Queen b) adminRhikto and c) admin Lenticel, only, to be my parent, amid resignation and retirement of my 2 parents[5]--Florentino floro (talk) 06:43, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Florentino Floro

In case you're interested in contributing your views, maxsch has put up an RFC for Floro here: [6]. I'll be writing something up later, but I think it could use the perspective of people who have actually dealt with him in the past. It seems to me that the "outsiders," so to speak, are getting the wrong impression from what's currently there, primarily because Floro's edits are not blatantly bad but actually look valid, so not having dealt with him before, they assume it's nothing but a case of maxsch attacking Floro on bad faith. --Migs (talk) 08:54, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Is it me, or does Cutie guyx22 seem to be another Gerald Gonzalez sock? His editing style seems to be Gerald-esque, like the one below, taken from a category he made:

This is a Category for the Philippine's finest Celebrity endorsers such as Kris Aquino, Sharon Cuneta and Angel Locsin...

Judging from his activity, it appears as though he is Gerald, or some newbie fanboy needing some advice... Any thought on this? God Bless and have a nice day... Blake Gripling (talk) 08:22, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Advice requested

Hi, Howard! Hope it's OK to bring my question here, but as I mentioned at ITN, I don't have much experience there. For "international interest", what do you guys generally look for? I think the only other article I ever worked with that ended up at ITN was Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal, which seemed to generate about the same level of media coverage. Thanks! Kelly hi! 17:53, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

The definition of "international interest" depends on who you ask. Generally American-interest stories (such as Edwards) aren't added as much on ITN since it's too insular. BTW, I've added something on my reply. And don't expect the story to be added unless it explodes way out of proportion (like Edwards' wife suing him for bigamy or something. --Howard the Duck 17:56, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
OK, thanksSalamat po. I was going to add a link saying that it was also at the top for BBC World News[7][8], but I guess you're saying that news events from the United States should not be nominated at ITN? With respect... Kelly hi! 18:08, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
No. Remember Spitzer was included, and that was borderline. What I'm saying is, Edwards is too minor of a character in the greater scheme of things. If we'd include Edwards, surely other scandals from other countries should be considered. If it were Obama it would've been considered.
As for BBC World News, it is the top story on the Americas section. You'd have to press "page down" thrice in order to see the Edwards story on the News Front Page. Certainly if Edwards' story is considered this story shouldn't be that far behind, considering it's more prominently displayed. (Do you get what I'm trying to say?) --Howard the Duck 18:16, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
I understand...I'm a little disappointed, since I mainly like to work on American current events and had hoped to get more involved with ITN. But I think I see what you're saying, so I will slink away from there greatly embarrassed. :( Sorry to have wasted your guy's time. Best wishes - Kelly hi! 18:20, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
It's not that bad. The only presidential country where primary elections were added in ITN were the U.S., and it took a lot of convincing to other people for it to be added. Parliamentary governments are different thing altogether since when the ruling party elects a new leader, that person will be the new PM. --Howard the Duck 18:23, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Take note that term "knockout stage" is the predominant term to use in the "playoffs" in team sports in the Olympics. Check out the word "dunno" above. "Medal rounds" are mostly used in individual sports and correctly in the context of the gold and bronze medal games. –Howard the Duck 15:38, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Includes individual sports where "medal rounds" are much more prominent, especially in which there are heats and such.
In team sports, "knockout stage" is more prominent especially if there 2 or more rounds of post-group stage action. –Howard the Duck 17:42, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Low-importance request

Howard, do you know how to put a border around the country flags on the Basketball tournament pages? Some of the flags (especially Russia and South Korea) do not work very well without a border around them. MrArticleOne (talk) 23:50, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I know they have a border already when you use the {{flagicon}} template. –Howard the Duck 03:31, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Just look at the Women's Basketball; South Korea and Russia look rough. MrArticleOne (talk) 03:57, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
There a pixel of border present there. There used to be flag images with borders on them but they were deleted when the pixel border was introduced. –Howard the Duck 04:06, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
There's a pixel of border on the knockout round flags? Look at those, on my screen at least they are indistinguishable. MrArticleOne (talk) 04:09, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
See these:
This has a border.
This has no border.
Howard the Duck 04:20, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
I certainly see the difference. The first has a border; the 2nd does not. I'm not entirely certain what you're getting at, though. On the Women's Basketball page, neither Russia nor South Korea has this border around their flag, making portions of their flags white-on-white. MrArticleOne (talk) 05:04, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
I know for a fact that the template used to generate those images uses the "border" syntax. Check out South Korea (has a border) and This has no border. (has no border). In smaller images they're not that easy to distinguish. –Howard the Duck 05:22, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello, is it possible to add the option for an image beneath the {{{time}}} parameter? I would like to add images to the respective game summaries in 2007–08 Boston Celtics season – Finals. ● 8~Hype @ 07:50, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

You can just place them under the template. This can be potentially abused, especially in fairly used images, plus big images can't be used since they'll be indistinguishable. –Howard the Duck 09:19, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
