Speedy deletion nomination of ISHM[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on ISHM requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Some information was taken from the offitial website. Some was by other sources. I am open to any advice on how to make this article more complete. Some suggestions?--ISHMSec (talk) 19:16, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problems with ISHM[edit]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, ISHM, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.biusante.parisdescartes.fr/ishm/eng/ and related pages. As a copyright violation, ISHM appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. ISHM has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:ISHM and send an email with the message to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at Talk:ISHM with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:ISHM.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. ISHMSec (talk) 19:19, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I will rewrite the content in my own words, though I have certain special permissions from the authors. I will do it inmediatelly Thanks for the advices.--ISHMSec (talk) 19:21, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

September 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen (ISHMSec) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization or adding links to its website.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Singularity42 (talk) 19:29, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, so can I change the name of my account? I already modified the article for saying teh same info with my own words. Now how do i change my account name? If that is what annoys people.--ISHMSec (talk) 19:33, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to change your username, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Changing username. Singularity42 (talk) 19:34, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done, I set a request on the change of my user name, for those who thing that it granted me too much authority. Using my true name Matthew Edwards. I will keep editing the article with my own words and I will upload some maps I developed. Thanks for the advices.--ISHMSec (talk) 19:47, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I have carried out many modifications, do you consider it to be enough? Also I am trying to upload the maps I mentioned, but it seems I need to wait for 4 days? Thanks--ISHMSec (talk) 20:11, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Basically there was no a wikipedia website for ISHM so I wanted to create one for this important Society. All the info I posted is true, and I invite anyone to give me some advices on how to make it more complete. Thanks.--ISHMSec (talk) 20:15, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I realy dont undersstand what happens here, i added some external links, and they were removed, why? Also there are some mistakes in the article. They are not meetings, they are congresses. Anyway I expect an answer. And i will fullfill the website with info i am granted from other sources--ISHMSec (talk) 20:35, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Status and Advice[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I am trying to fix this article so it stays in Wikipedia. The first thing you must do to help me is to stop editing under this name,, or you will be blocked from editing. You must select another user name. As explained in WP:USER, only individuals may edit. When you have a username that is or includes the name of your organization, you imply that you are editing officially, and have a superior right to edit the page. But that is not the way WP works--all editors are considered equal--and your contributions like those of any editor must be justified by sources. I'm sure you did not intend to give such impression, but that's why we have the rule. Therefore, please choose another name. On that user page, you should say whom you are working for. All you need do is start again with your true name, on any acronym of your choice.

As it says in our policy, WP:COI, you may edit, provided you do so objectively. It is not advised, because experience shows that a person will have great difficulty writing an objective article about their own organization. As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's not impossible to do it properly with a conflict of interest or as a paid press agent, but it's relatively more difficult: you are automatically thinking in terms of the organization wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know. If you think you can do it right according to the guidelines, do so, but expect the article to be carefully checked for objectivity.

1/ do not copy from a web site, even from your own; rewrite the information from scratch
2/ put in a reference to a published source at the very first edit.

I have considerable experience working with articles of this sort; please let me deal with it. Further advice forthcoming. DGG ( talk ) 20:57, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok sorry, yeap it happened as you said, but i already requested a chaneg on the user name, based preciselly on that criteria. It can be checked, some user suggested it to me and i presented a request on the propper website, from ISHMSCE to Matthew Edwards. Precisely for avoiding conflict of interests. I though the entries i woudl edit as this user name would be changed into Matthew Edwars one, once it was changed. But it seems they wont, ok so I will stop editing until my username is changed. About neutrality, I sincerely think i am neutral. It is a very big institution and with a very high peer scrutiny. And about refearing data, it was my next step, but none gave me time for doing it. One hour after i wrote the article and i added the external link to the offitial websites, ( cause i had nothing to hide, nor i realy thought it would matter if i got info from the offitial website) it was selected for quick delete . etc. Well i talk too much, simply i wanted to say i will stop editing untill my username is changed, under ur guideance. And i will reffer all my info. And i trust on ur criteria for developing the article. Thanks--ISHMSec (talk) 21:05, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for creating a website for the International Society for the History of Medicine. We our members cannot understand why it had not been done yet. I agree with you on the peer scrutiny, very few international organizations inspect so hard the information shared at the congresses of the ISHM. Also I don't know what maps you were referring to , but I own two on the ISHM. One on its presence in the world ( by country), and another on the impact of the two versions of International Congresses. Thanks again.--Lorne McGregor (talk) 21:32, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only you. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:18, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
