Hi[edit]

The layout for Wikipedia edits and talk is really overwhelming to me. I wish there was a way to be a part of it that felt more integrative than code. I want to be involved and am willing to understand the ways and means, but the sheer volume of content just makes it so daunting to imagine the force that keeps it in line. But at any rate, I received a message from you on the user talk inbox that I didn't realize existed, as I've only made about a dozen minor edits in the last two years or so which was when you'd left this message. I'm not sure where else to ask a question, and mine I'm sure is aggravatingly rudimentary. But I was looking at my User Contributions which I also hadn't realized existed and there are green and red numbered ± relating to the different edits I've made and I was wondering if you knew what those meant? | hist) . . (-25)‎ . . m Being There ‎ (uncredited do those +25 and - 25 represent upvotes and downvotes from other editors or is it the data space that was added or removed in terms of bytes? I'm going to try to find the answer, but I wasn't sure how to ask the internet "help me figure out wikipedia" so any help much appreciated. Joco[edit]

Hello helpful reviewer - can I have some advice please. I created Joco (disambiguation) (which you reviewed) because there are (at least) 3 uses of Joco/JoCo including one primary topic Jonathan Coulton. I placed a new hatnote at the primary topic. Joco and JoCo (capital C) both redirect to the primary topic. Should I also create JoCo (disambiguation) and redirect to Joco (disambiguation)? Can't quite work out how important capitals are. Thanks Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 06:59, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Shhhnotsoloud: I would think the redirect would be enough for now. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 16:10, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A brownie for you![edit]

Thank you for your help :) Now that my page is in Draft it seems I cannot create the musical artist page box. Will this feature be available once I finish the draft stage? I'm new at this and am eager to learn. Would love your feedback. Thank you once again! Songuitar333 (talk) 03:46, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Songuitar333: To be clear on this, are you referring to inserting an infobox?  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 07:37, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

yes but I think someone fixed it for me. I am sorry. I am a beginner at this but I am trying to learn this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Songuitar333 (talkcontribs) 16:51, December 10, 2016 (UTC)

A message from CJM123[edit]

Hello! Thanks for welcoming me a few months ago. I've worked on a Wiki page for Larry Rand, but got denied for "notability concerns". I've used links from a number of reputable sources to back up the points made in the text. Is there a way for another editor to take a second look at the draft? CJM123 (talk) 19:04, 13 December 2016 (UTC) CJM123 (talk) 19:04, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@CJM123: Let me express some of my own concerns:
  1. The early life and education and philanthropy sections are entirely devoid of inline citations. Thankfully, there are no statements that are negative about Larry Rand, but it's honestly best to be safe about that sort of thing, in case anyone with a reason to dislike Rand happens to find the hypothetical article. There's also two other sections that are also absent of any inline citations, but they are small, barely a paragraph each.
  2. You haven't improved the draft at all since it was declined, almost guaranteeing it will be declined again, even if someone else reviews it. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 03:31, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A message from CJM123[edit]

This is extremely helpful feedback and I will be revising the draft based on this input. Prior feedback, including the rationale for the draft being declined, was non-specific and non constructive. (Can a Wiki editor actually not know what a communications firm is?) In any event, your comments are actionable which I appreciate. I welcome more constructive comments in this vein. Thanks again! Can I get the deleted page back?[edit]

Hi I found my page has been deleted, I am just wondering if there is any backup. As I am going to move the page to wikipedia in Chinese.(Actually I couldn't access the zh.wikipedia.org as it block me as proxy. I can access it now so I will do the movement. Many thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kreny (talkcontribs) 02:48, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Per your comment on not having citations for "Early Life" and "Philanthropy" sections for the proposed Larry Rand page, what would you recommend as types of viable source material given the nature of the paragraph's content? ([[1]]) CJM123 (talk) 16:06, 27 December 2016 (UTC) CJM123 (talk) 16:06, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@CJM123: More than a passing mention in:
  • Non-interview articles not written by Larry
  • Biographical books/passages in books not written by Larry
  • Similar pieces of writing. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 07:25, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)[edit]

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. @Harper9979: I think you meant to talk to the The Bounder.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 09:15, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Harper9979, I know this isn't the forum for this discussion, but following guidelines to put citations from reliable sources (on a point that was discussed on the talk page) is no basis for one of these threatening messages. If you want to go to ANI over the point, I suspect it may boomerang against you. - The Bounder (talk) 09:27, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Warning! Making disruptive edits without editing may be a symptom of edit warring with oneself. This may have non-serious implications! Jim1138 (talk) 11:41, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
