False warning on my talk page[edit]

I suggest you look again, at both the edit I made and the warning you left me, then correct the warning with an explanation that you were mistaken. I face enough prejudice as an IP editor without false accusations on my talk page. 73.202.53.43 (talk) 01:21, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Still waiting for your correction and apology. 73.202.53.43 (talk) 01:29, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt an edit that adds "Bitch what tf u talking bout?!" is constructive. Maybe someone else (in the same building, perhaps?) is using your IP address to edit wikipedia. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 01:33, 5 February 2017 (UTC) (reworded at 01:34, 5 February 2017 (UTC))[reply]
(talk page stalker) IDOH, I think you've mistaken the IP for another. This IP's edit is here. The comment you're referring to was made by the previous IP to edit that page, here. General Ization Talk 01:36, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, General. 73.202.53.43 (talk) 01:50, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Still waiting... 73.202.53.43 (talk) 02:07, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

IP, IDOH has made more than 300 edits today, while you've made about 20. It might be that you're entitled to an apology, but you might also be a little more gracious about the matter and recognize that IDOH is quite busy and will get to it when they can. An apology tomorrow will be just as valid as one made today. General Ization Talk 02:11, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies. General Ization was right. I was reverting other bits of vandalism, and was also doing things other than editing Wikipedia. I think this and one other--already corrected--edit are the only two I've made. I should've apologized immediately.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 03:24, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. As I've indicated, I face enough prejudice because I choose to edit as an IP. Getting false accusations corrected as soon as possible is important. 73.202.53.43 (talk) 03:51, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review - newsletter No.2[edit]

Hello I dream of horses/2017,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 817 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election[edit]

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Hello, I dream of horses! I went to the Badal Sarkar page to correct the spelling which is Sircar, and not Sarkar. But I seem to have also taken away the photograph that I had put up there. Now, I don't want to do that. That was a perfectly good photo. And no copyright hassles either. Can you help? tried to Undo by clicking on many Undo links- none seem to be working. Google information to Wikipedia[edit]

Hello there.

I am particularly new here, so I have a question.

I can edit stuff, but does that include information from Google (i.e. Paul Lohmann, Jean-Yves Le Mener, etc)?

2601:1C2:5100:9912:8D31:5789:3970:B9AE (talk) 04:08, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can you clarify what you mean? What is "information from Google"? -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 04:10, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty much the infoboxes from Google.

My reason: I noticed things different about Paul Lohmann's page from Google.

First off, according to not only Google, but also his son Bruce (also an editor on Wikipedia), Lohmann died in 1995.

Lohmann was also born in New York, not Oak Park (I looked this up, though that specifically is not on Google).

So, pretty much the information on the right side of the page on Google.

The only thing I want to know is if that type of information is allowed on Wikipedia.

If not, I'll stay out of it.

2601:1C2:5100:9912:8D31:5789:3970:B9AE (talk) 04:32, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thought so. We can't edit the information on Google, unfortunately.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 04:34, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

Hey, it's me. The guy who editing information on Wikipedia from Google (I asked you about Paul Lohmann yesterday).

Well, now I've got a problem.

My username was 2601:1C2:5100:9912:8D31:5789:3970:B9AE.

But now its changed to 2601:1C2:5100:9912:745F:BF:ED5B:B346.

What happened to me? Why were my users switched? Did I do anything wrong?

Please help me.

2601:1C2:5100:9912:745F:BF:ED5B:B346 (talk) 21:23, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing is wrong. Your IP address has changed, which happens from time to time---though why an IPv6 would change is beyond me (perhaps you're editing in a different location?). Anyways, if you don't want to change usernames against your will, register an account. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 01:43, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stub definition[edit]

Hi, articles about groups of organisms that contain little or no useful information (e.g. description, taxonomy, distribution, habitat, behaviour, etc.) but have a long list of subgroups are still stubs, as per WP:STUB: Similarly, stub status usually depends on the length of prose text alone – lists, templates, images, and other such peripheral parts of an article are usually not considered when judging whether an article is a stub. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:07, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Peter coxhead: I'm assuming you're talking about your revert here? -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 01:15, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I guess so. I've actually seen quite a few incorrect removals of stub templates lately, so I can't always remember which one I've commented on. It's often because editors use AWB and simply go by article length. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:38, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Peter coxhead: I've been going through Category:All stub articles, with it's "random page" feature (I copy and paste the stub category of the article I land). I, indeed, am using AWB. Is it all by me? -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 10:40, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, definitely not. For example, there have been a couple of discussions at User talk:DrStrauss over removals they made, see e.g. User talk:DrStrauss#Stub-tag on Naarda. I'm not a user of AWB, so I don't know whether its default behaviour has changed recently, but I have seen more stub removals apparently based purely on length and not on actual content. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:50, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Peter coxhead: Well, perhaps if something has changed (there's been a somewhat recent update in January), it can be fixed. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 10:52, 10 February 2017 (UTC) (fixed ping template at 10:52, 10 February 2017 (UTC))[reply]
That would be good. However, it's always incumbent on editors to verify that AWB's default behaviour is correct. I'm sure you normally do, but it's clear that many editors just assume it must be right and don't look at what it has done. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:04, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bardiakoushan (talk) 13:50, 14 February 2017 (UTC) I dream of horses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Mansour_Koushan Hi, I made a page for Mansour Koushan which you have moved to drafts because you said I represent the subject of the article. I don't represent Mansour Koushan, other than that we have the same last name. The information written in the article is similar to the subject's Norwegian and Farsi wikipedia page. Adding photographer's credit to a photo caption[edit]

Hi I dream of horses! Is adding a photographer's credit to a photo caption a violation of Wikipedia editing? I cannot find that rule anywhere, but NicoScribe and Мне отмщение, и аз воздам seem to be against it without giving me links to where it is stipulated on Wikimedia Commons or Wikipedia. I see no problems or harm with giving credit to photographers of any image on any Wikipedia article page. Of course I know that all copyright licence agreements and authors name is on archive at Wikimedia Commons, but that is a different section from Wikipedia articles. I think adding a photographer's credit to photo captions provides acknowledgement, recognition and exposure to the photographer's work upfront and may encourage more professional photographers to give permission to use their work on Wikipedia. Most fan photos are often poor in quality but great in quantity yet most uploaders choose not to use fan photos. It is clear that Wikipedia article pages with images have more page views than ones that do not. If you are a professional photographer would you not want your name displayed on a Wikipedia page especially after you gave permission to use it on Wikipedia? Please let me know what you or other editors think. P.S. I contacted the author, Jack Alexander, who explictly agreed to have his name on the photo caption. Cheers! (KittyLover (talk) 04:21, 16 February 2017 (UTC))[reply]

@KittyLover: There is a link to Wikimedia Commons from the image itself. There is, therefore, no need at all to put photographer credit in the captions, particularly if there's consensus against it. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 04:31, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi I dream of horses! Does mean that it is optional? I can choose to add a photographer's credit to a Wikipedia article page I created myself but not on a page created by someone else? Please enlighten me on this.
Thanks! cheers, (KittyLover (talk) 04:40, 16 February 2017 (UTC))[reply]
@KittyLover: As in, there's no need to do it at all. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 04:58, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@KittyLover: actually it is not optional whether to put credits in an article, nor is it a case of "there's no need to" – it's policy that they should not be there: All photo credits should be in a summary on the image description page as per Wikipedia:Image use policy. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:24, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Peter coxhead: Thanks for explaining further. My expertise is obviously not image policy, since I don't deal with images on a regular basis. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 10:41, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I dream of horses/2017,

Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 817 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

The future of NPP and AfC[edit]

Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. The coordinators will do their best for for the advancement of the improvement of NPP and AfC and generally keep tracks on the development of those things. Coordinators have no additional or special user benefits, but they will be 'go to' people and will try to keep discussions in the right places. This very much involves this project too, especially with growing renewed interest around the site about what WP:ACTRIAL was all about.

Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.

Hi,

Just wondering about the CSD-to-redirect edit you made on Oldest Turtle. I agree that it's good to try and not bite newcomers, I think that the redirect to "turtle" is implausible and no such redirects exist for other animals, so I'd suggest re-instating the speedy myself. Citations from WoRMS[edit]

Hi I dream of Horses, when you find a citation from WoRMS that is a bare URL, you can get a full citation with very little more effort than tagging by opening the link to WoRMS, going to the bottom of the page and copy pasting the complete citation which they kindly and conveniently provide there for this purpose, access date and all. In this way you can do the actual fixing of the problem in only a little more time than it takes to draw attention to it. Far less effort than it took me to leave you this message, but as you seem to do a lot more of this sort of gnomery than I, I thought it may be profitable to the encyclopedia in the long run if you knew how to do the complete fix. @Pbsouthwood: So, to be perfectly clear, this is WoRMS, as in the World Register of Marine Species, correct? -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 05:23, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. Sorry, I should probably have been more specific. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 13:48, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Arkansaw[edit]

COngrats for your contribution about 1958. I just concentrate in the period 1964-1970 because then the Solid SOuth started changing and elections had more background and analysis. But you did somethiing very innovative!!!I don't think many election articles exist for the South elections prior to 1964!! Keep on and hope we collaborate.--Soccererer (talk) 05:10, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Soccererer: Can you, per the instructions in my edit notice, link to the article you're talking about? -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 05:13, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
