Quick Question[edit]

Hey! I just have a real quick question, are fun facts or anything like that supposed to be incorporated into an article. I have seen some articles with past "trivia" sections that have since been removed. Lets say a famous band had a song in the soundtrack of a relatively unknown video game, is that fact considered notable? If so, how do I say that? Do I put in a new section titled "trivia" or "notable facts" or "notes" or something like that? Thanks in advance! VTnav (talk) 23:53, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@VTnav: Trivia sections are highly discouraged, and a sign of incompletion at best. If a famous band had a song in the soundtrack of a video game, then it would only be mentioned if that video game has its own article. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 02:53, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, yes, I know that, but I am talking about on the video games article, like should I include the fact in any sort of section, or is it not notable or something that isn't appropriate for Wikipedia? VTnav (talk) 04:53, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@VTnav: I am a bit of a deletionist, but I'd say if the video game isn't notable, it shouldn't be included in any article. Opinions of others may differ, including the opinions of those who edit video game or music articles.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 05:20, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the confusing phrasing of the question, but I meant in the article for the video game. Lets say a notable song was in an unknown video game. In the article for the video game, should it be noted that the notable song was in the game. Sorry again for the confusing wording, but thanks for your help! VTnav (talk) 00:15, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@VTnav: I'm not sure a video game described as "unknown" would have an article to begin with.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 00:51, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The article I am referring to is Jugular Street Luge Racing, it is not unknown, but it is not very widely renowned or anything. It still meets notability guidelines (according to the Wikimedia Committee at least). VTnav (talk) 02:31, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@VTnav: One sentence should suffice.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 02:37, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Nickyjampr: How flattering you should ask.
If you try your best in editing, even if you're just correcting typos and spelling mistakes, you'll gain experience and get better at it.
Also, I see you haven't figured out edit summaries and signatures yet, both which can help with communication and preventing confusion. Click on the links I just shared, and go from there. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 01:06, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Another quick question[edit]

So let's say I see a red link on a page, should I just let it be, or should I start creating an article to fill in the red link, or should I make it not a link. Basically what I'm asking is: are red links indicators of topics that need to have an article because they are notable, or are they just errors to be removed? VTnav (talk) 04:28, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@VTnav: It depends on context. If the topic isn't ever going to be notable, remove the link. If the topic is notable, create an article. If you aren't sure, just leave it be.
Sometimes, a red link means an inexperienced editor without an understanding of notability added the link---perhaps thinking a red link means that an article will surely appear (or make it so that the article they plan to write won't be deleted), perhaps not, but they're acting in good faith.
Sometimes, it means that a busy but experienced editor is trying to create a "bookmark" of a needed article.
Sometimes, someone makes an educated estimate that something (or someone) will be notable in the future, but realizes it isn't quite there yet---this would be a partial exception to WP:NOTCRYSTAL, since red links are much easier to remove, if necessary, than articles.
Sometimes, red links are edit tests or vandalism that needs to be reverted ASAP.
I'm sure most of the time the addition of a red link varies at least somewhat, but I'm making the point that it depends on context.-- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 04:46, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

21:30:25, 7 October 2017 review of submission by N aziz[edit]

Hey, I don't really mind that you declined it, don't worry. I just wanted to ask a question, if you don't mind. I knew that my article would be declined form the first try. I don't have that kind of beginner's luck. You declined it's publishing due to the fact that I had no references WHATSOEVER (I know, I'm so dumb, right? I'm sorry though.) What do you recommend is the best amount of references?

{{SAFESUBST:Void|}

@N aziz: A minimum of five sources, give or take two, is the absolute minimum. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 21:47, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Template:Pontiac[edit]

Hi I dream of horses. I came across Draft:Template:Pontiac while checking on pages flagged for non-free content use violations. File:Pontiac Logo-en.png was being used in the template which is something not allowed per non-free content use criterion #9. I removed the file, so I hope that doesn't affect your review. If an image is needed for the template, you might want to suggest that the creator check Commons for a suitable replacement. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:50, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: Oops, good catch! It won't affect my review.
How can I catch this in the future? -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 21:45, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You can check a file's licensing by clicking on the image and looking at the copyright tag. If the file is licensed as "non-free" or "fair use", and is uploaded locally to WIkipedia, then it shouldn't be used. If the file is licensed using a free license or as public domain, or is from Wikimedia Commons, then it's probably OK. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:28, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A message from Shanelle N. Waithe[edit]

My submission on Brain Targeted Teaching Model was declined because of inline citation. I have included 8 references using APA style. Can you assist me in understanding how I can improve in getting this article approved? Shanelle N. Waithe (talk) 13:47, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Shanelle N. Waithe: To summarize WP:REFBEGIN, you can put references between <ref> and </ref> so you insert it in the body article. There's a few templates starting with the "cite" ({{cite web}}, {{cite news}}, etc.) that can help with the formatting process.
There's a few issues with overly technical language and formatting, but that's easily corrected.
I notice there's a lot of drafts written about educational theories, like brain targeted teaching model. Do you know if there's a reason why? -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 21:12, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies---the level 3 warning was an error on huggles' part, and no, I haven't watched the show.

IHM Individual Health Management[edit]

Dear Dreaming of horses...... Moreno declined the first draft on 27th of September, because the references were missing. Consequently we included the missing references. Afterwards you declined the article without any reason - obviously you didn't notice that the references were included. Therefore I ask you to not block this article for any unsubstantial irrational reason or feelings , as this article is scientifically based and exerts a substantial contribution for society. Best regards, the authors

@Beatrice11111: also David.moreno72 just so we're on the same page I don't think I communicated clearly. Apologies.
It appears as though you moved a link, added a couple of numbers, and then removed them. That wouldn't be "adding references".

Draft: Robert Hardgrave Rejection[edit]

Hello. I have submitted this article three times. The first reviewer asked for better referencing of the 12 published sources I mentioned, including magazines and award nominations. The second rejection asked for evidence of a 4th work of art in a permanent collection (there were already three). I added a fourth. You rejected the article telling me that three works in permanent collections would be evidence of notability. Is the 4th one too many? Could you please reconsider the article...to see the artist's notability, just google Robert Hardgrave and click on "images". Kind regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DavidCM70 (talkcontribs) 4:11 am, October 19, 2017 (UTC)

@DavidDavidCM70: I'm not going to google Hardgrave. It's your job to prove that he is notable.
No such thing as too many reference, but I'm not Hardgrave has presumed notability, which was why I rejected the draft.
I don't review drafts on request, since if I do, I may receive too many requests to handle. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 09:11, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2nd Anglo-Afghan War and the section derived from Masters book[edit]

Hello I Dream Of Horses, I have reverted your reversion of an named (but not much more) contributor. This is what I wrote on the talk page:

Cureel has come forward and stated that Master's book does not mention the 2nd Anglo-Afghan War, that the alleged incidents were not about the 2nd Anglo-Afghan war. That does not look like vandalism, it looks like an informed position. Masters was writing some decades after his experience near, not in, Afghanistan and otherwise wrote popular fiction. Unless there is a positive discussion about the exact location and time that Masters is writing about and a defence of this author as a credible source, I wish to remove discussion of his comments from this entry.

Is this alright to you? Thanks for your contributions. Brunswicknic (talk) 13:02, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Brunswicknic: I reverted the edit because it blanked a section without explanation (or perhaps I need to renew my knowledge of STiKi), so sure. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 15:07, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like at least three of the people working for the company whose website consultingexpert has been inserting links to are former Bain employees. See: https://managementconsulted.com/about/ . Similar ties appear to exist between that company's staff and the other consultancy firms whose WP articles have been edited by consultingexpert: McKinsey, Deloitte, and BCG. 09:57:22, 22 October 2017 review of submission by 09bryant[edit]

This page doesn't contain any sources as it is a page of statistics just like List of Formula E driver records which also doesn't contain any sources. If you want to know how I got the statsitics I can send you the spreadsheets I used to calculate the statistics. This page is very similar to the page listed above and as Formula E is a very young racing series there is little to no people doing this sort of statistics, so Wikipedia would be the only source out there for people wanting to learn about Formula E. I hope after realising this paged situation you reconsider the submission.
