AWB and short descriptions[edit]

Hello. AWB has a habit of moving the short description down the page, as here and here. Personally I think that's an improvement – we should confirm whether the reader is at the right article before launching into its details – but MOS:ORDER says otherwise. Lots of us are getting caught out: WT:AutoWikiBrowser#Please_bump_the_released_version. Certes (talk) 10:42, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Certes, hoo boy. Thanks for telling me. I dream of horses (Contribs) Please notify me after replying off my talk page. Thank you. 00:23, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A message from Liebena[edit]

Dear Emily

Thanks for reviewing my new page about the NotForgotten Digital Preservation Library - I appreciate your review. I am struggling (probably blinded by my own writing) to find and then strip out anything that appears to be viewed as advertizing. I have reviewed the guidelines, but still I am blind. Is there any chance you can identify the area I need to improve?

Kindest regards, and thanks for your efforts

Liebena (talk) 12:21, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Liebena, I think John B123 and Þjarkur is the better ones to ask. They're the ones who have expressed concerns. I actually removed cleanup tags from the article. I dream of horses (Contribs) Please notify me after replying off my talk page. Thank you. 18:55, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks Emily - will do. Appreciate your efforts. Liebena (talk) 19:06, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not run AWB on typography articles[edit]

I hope you have seen the chorus of disapproval for your use of AWB to "correct" quotation mark. Your changes have all been reverted. The articles in List of typographical symbols and punctuation marks (and others) include a wide variety of marks that are not standard in (US) English and are deprecated by the MOS if used in 'normal' articles. But they are very important in these articles because the articles describe these differing national conventions. Please steer clear. Better still (since even if you stop, some other well meaning person will do it instead), is there a way to 'immunise' these articles against bot patrols? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 15:57, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

John Maynard Friedman, there's {{bots}} to "immunize" the entire page, and this is one of those rare times where it makes sense. Just add deny=AWB as a parameter. You can also immunize one word or phrase by using {{not a typo}} or {{lang}} around said word or phrase, and that's a lot better in nearly all situations, just not this one. I dream of horses (Contribs) Please notify me after replying off my talk page. Thank you. 16:20, 2 September 2020 (UTC) (fixed template, added "Just add deny=AWB as a parameter." at 16:27, 2 September 2020 (UTC))[reply]
Thank you. I did look at WP:Bots first, expecting to find something about a vaccine there but nada (perhaps you might add a short section?). I have applied {{bots|deny=AWB}} to the likely targets so hopefully the issue won't recur. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 16:52, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
John Maynard Friedman, short section added. If the template is overused, then the section is easily removed. --I dream of horses (Contribs) Please notify me after replying off my talk page. Thank you. 18:12, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I have completed the text for the page on Mary Naylor. If there is anything I can to do to clarify anything written, please let me know. I look forward to having my first full offering published on Wikipedia. Sincerely, Myramcwethy (talk) 22:17, 9 September 2020 (UTC) Myra McWethy[reply]

A message from Tahoeob[edit]

Thank you for reviewing ProjectLibre ! There is confusion and we are getting some blowback for commenting on OpenProj. We are actually the developers of OpenProj We were acquired by Serena Software and they publicly on their website had an explicit note "OpenProj is no longer supported. Please download ProjectLibre" We are the same team that developed OpenProj. Serena did not want to continue OpenProj and it had not been supported for over 10 years and given all the bugs accumulating they publicly noted that ProjectLibre was the successor project. This is not promotion. We respectfully request you contact us and we will be pleased to further let you know the reasons Serena Software was requesting users switch to ProjectLibre. That was not our comments as we have nothing to do anymore with Serena

Tahoeob (talk) 03:46, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tahoeob, for one thing, I don't know if any of you are doing this, but multiple people sharing one account is both against English Wikipedia policy and a bad idea security wise. I'm just saying this to be overly cautious.
Secondly, it's probably best to use {{requested edit}} on the talk pages of ProjectLibre and OpenProj from here on out, to prevent further blowblack. It'll take a while to get an answer, but at least then everyone can better avoid conflict. I dream of horses (Contribs) Please notify me after replying off my talk page. Thank you. 03:53, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Changing date formats in verbatim quotations[edit]

Hi, I dream of horses, and thank you for your edit to the Ewen Gillies article. I note that you (using AWB) changed the format of two out of the three dates in the "Fourth emigration (1889)" section. When creating the article, I did consider whether to change these dates to standard Wikipedia format, but decided that when quoting verbatim (in this case from text that is literally 'cut in stone'), it would be incorrect to edit the quotation by inserting punctuation. What do you think?

If you agree with changing these dates back to the format that appears on the gravestone, do you know whether there is any Wikipedia markup that I can use on the quotations to prevent further such changes being inadvertently made? Thanks and best wishes, — Hebrides (talk) 18:51, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hebrides, go ahead and do a partial revert (just remove the commas instead of using the undo button). Add {{sic}} or {{not a typo}} so AWB doesn't do this again. Basically, do what this says. I dream of horses (Contribs) Please notify me after replying off my talk page. Thank you. 19:09, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I dream of horses, I've done that. The {{sic}} and {{not a typo}} templates are very useful; I hadn't come across them before. Best wishes, — Hebrides (talk) 20:25, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]
